  • A defiant Perry calls felony indictment a “farce”

AUSTIN — Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Saturday that the indictment against him was an “outrageous” abuse of power and vowed to fight it. “This indictment amounts to nothing more than abuse of power and I cannot and will not allow that to happen,” Perry said at a news conference on Saturday. Perry spoke a day after a grand jury indicted the Republican on two felony counts of abuse of power for making good on a veto threat. He dismissed the prosecution as a “farce.” A special prosecutor spent months calling witnesses and presenting evidence that Perry broke the law...

SAN ANTONIO — A defense attorney whose client killed two men in a drunken crash found himself before the same judge Friday, accused of contempt for allegedly telling a witness to disappear so prosecutors could not recall her during the trial. Mike McCrum vehemently denies the allegations of wrongdoing by the district attorney´s office. If visiting Judge Dick Alcala agrees the accusation is legitimate, McCrum potentially could face up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $500.
  • 'Moderate' Voice Fails to State Why Rick Perry Pushed for DA Removal

One should always put the "Moderate" in Moderate Voice in quotes. Why? Because they are a Liberal Voice masquerading as a "Moderate" Voice. It's a nice little shtick to hide their real agenda but sometimes they get a little too obvious in the attempt to hide  their inner Liberal. A good example is the Moderate Voice story about Texas Governor Rick Perry getting indicted by a Travis County grand jury for "abusing" his power by pushing for the removal of that county's District Attorney, Rosemary Lehmberg. To read their story, you would have no idea why Perry was pushing for...
  • This Indictment Of Rick Perry Is Unbelievably Ridiculous (says a liberal writer)

    08/16/2014 1:51:00 PM PDT · by jocon307 · 55 replies
They say a prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich, and this always seemed like hyperbole, until Friday night a Texas grand jury announced an indictment of governor Rick Perry. The “crime” for which Perry faces a sentence of 5 to 99 years in prison is vetoing funding for a state agency. The conventions of reporting — which treat the fact of an indictment as the primary news, and its merit as a secondary analytic question — make it difficult for people reading the news to grasp just how farfetched this indictment is.

Yesterday, Rick Perry was indicted on charges of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant – felonies that could potentially result in a life sentence – after following through on his promise to veto state prosecutors investigating public corruption. The left-leaning advocacy group, Texans for Public Justice, has largely pushed the issue, which stems from Perry threatening to cut $7.5 million over two years from the public integrity unit in order to pressure Rosemary Lehmberg, the Travis County District Attorney whose office oversaw that unit, to resign after she was convicted of driving under the influence. While...

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry was indicted on two felony counts for abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant late Friday by a Travis County grand jury. The case stems from Perry’s vetoing the $7.5 million biennial funding for the Travis County Public Integrity Unit last year. He threatened to withhold the money unless District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg resigned. In announcing the indictment, special prosecutor Michael McCrum of San Antonio said he felt confident of the charges brought against the governor and was “ready to go forward.”

In a sign that the indictment of Texas Gov. Rick Perry for abuse of office and coercion may not be having the political effects some have hoped for, Sen. Ted Cruz, the Republican junior senator from Texas, has taken to his Facebook page to express support for the governor. Cruz is considered a possible rival to Perry for the Republican nomination for president in 2016. However differences are being set aside, at least for the time being, to rally around Perry.“Unfortunately, there has been a sad history of the Travis County District Attorney's Office engaging in politically-motivated prosecutions, and this...

Rick Perry has taken another step to being a national player and perhaps inching his way into a national presidential campaign. One of the ways is to make friends. On July 31, he filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to create a political committee called RickPAC. He intends to use the committee to donate contributions to like-minded Republicans. “It was set up to help fund candidates who agree with the governor’s priorities,” said spokesman Mark Miner.

So let me get this straight; Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg – also the head of the Public INTEGRITY Unit – is convicted of aggravated DUI. When she refuses to resign for behavior unbecoming of her office – accountability is foreign to most liberals - Governor Rick Perry promises to veto the 7.5 million budgeted for the Integrity Unit. And for this, something presidents and governors practically do on a weekly basis, he is indicted on felony coercion charges by a heavily Democratic-laden, Austin grand jury? Oh, something definitely stinks in the Lone Star state and it’s called dirty...

OKAY. It's obvious this is another Tom Delay type witch hunt. My question isn't really if there is any validity to this. It's more about if it will actually work this time against Gov. Perry or will it (hopefully) backfire and shine a big bright light on the corruption that is the Dem party today. Your feedback is much appreciated... Oh, and if "they" can be allowed to get away with this, shouldn't the same thing happen to the two most corrupt gov employees we have right now? Obama and Holder. I'm hoping if we all break out our new...

ROCKPORT, Texas—Texas Governor Rick Perry’s decision to activate the Texas National Guard and deploy them along a relatively small sector of the Texas-Mexico border has brought criticism from one border county’s sheriff’s office and praise from another. While some leaders along the border appear to be concerned about a “militarization” of the border region, others see it as an opportunity to stop the senseless deaths that have been occurring South Texas. At least one sheriff questioned the wisdom of Perry’s decision to send military people into the area who are not authorized to stop anyone, according to the Dallas Morning News...

HOUSTON, Texas — Members of the Texas National Guard currently in training at Camp Swift, near Austin, have been told to stand by for a personal briefing from Texas Governor Rick Perry. Perry is expected to arrive at Camp Swift this morning to brief the troops on his expectations of their deployment. It is still not clear as to exactly where this first batch of troops will be deployed, according to one of the soldiers currently at Camp Swift. The soldier has been at the camp receiving training this week and expects to be deployed somewhere along the border this...

On Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said Texas Gov. Rick Perry's enthusiastic embrace of in-state tuition for illegal immigrants is a magnet that lures more illegal immigrants to America – just like President Barack Obama's temporary amnesty program for DREAMers. “President Obama won’t send them home, and Gov. Perry has done the same thing by giving them in-state tuition," Paul told the Wall Street Journal during a significant Iowa trip. "That’s a beacon without any kind of border security."

The number of illegal aliens being apprehended coming across the southwest border who hail from countries with “substantial terrorist ties” is at a record high, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Sunday in comments backed up by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers. Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, Perry rejected the notion that his decision to deploy 1,000 National Guard troops to the Texas-Mexico border was related to a prospective 2016 presidential bid. “It hasn’t got anything to do with anything other than those numbers of individuals who are coming across the border,” he said. “And when you think...

For decades, America has stood with Israel and defended its right to protect itself against attacks from the radical Islamic terrorists of Hamas and similar organizations. This time around, however, the Obama administration and Secretary of State John Kerry have demanded that Israel agree to cease-fire proposals that Israel knew were not in its best interests–but, wanting to preserve the historically strong relationship between the two countries, Israel agreed. Three men died as a direct result, when Palestinian militants broke the cease-fire in less than two hours. Israel has said that they are no longer interested in interference in their...
