Bubba Wallace is taking his fake noose and going home... Bubba Wallace is the Colin Kaepernick of NASCAR. He’s singlehandedly helped to unravel a brand that some people thought could never be taken down by politicizing the sport. Americans do not want activism mixed in with their sports. I don’t know how much clearer they can make it to the sports community. Just look at the abysmal NBA, MLB, and NASCAR ratings.

In all his years in auto racing, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace said Tuesday night, he has never seen anything like what he described as a “straight-up noose” that was being used as a door pull in the garage he was assigned last week at Talladega Speedway in Alabama. “I’ve been racing all of my life,” Wallace told CNN's Don Lemon. “We've raced out of hundreds of garages that never had garage pulls like that. So people that want to call it a garage pull and put out all the videos and photos of knots being as their evidence, go ahead,...

Hours after it was announced that what was thought to be a noose was a garage door pull and no hate crime was directed at Bubba Wallace at Talladega Superspeedway, Richard Petty Motorsports reacted the investigation. “On Sunday, June 21, members of Richard Petty Motorsports discovered a rope tied in fashion of a noose in the garage stall assigned to the team at the Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway,” the statement said. “In accordance with established protocols, our team member notified the crew chief who notified NASCAR of the presence of the item in the garage stall. NASCAR leadership determined the course...

He hasn't been behind the wheel since 1992, but there still is only one King of NASCAR, and when Richard Petty speaks, the words carry some weight. On the subject of Danica Patrick's chances of winning in her second full season behind the wheel of a Sprint Cup car, Petty is quite clear.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. headlined the five inductees into the first Hall of Fame class, a group that drew mixed reactions to the inclusion of France’s son instead of driver David Pearson. France, who formed the National Association of Stock Car Racing in 1947, was the first inductee announced .. Richard Petty, the seven-time Cup champion and NASCAR’s all-time wins leader, was the second inductee revealed by current NASCAR chairman Brian France, .. Next up was Bill France Jr., son of the NASCAR founder .. “When I seen the two Frances was in, I knew I didn’t...

On Saturday, as more than 100,000 NASCAR fans gathered at Lowe's Motor Speedway for the Bank of America 500, legendary racer Richard Petty announced his endorsement of Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain. "What we need right now in these uncertain times is a steady hand on the wheel, a leader we can trust to put country first, ahead of politics," Petty said in a prepared statement. The endorsement was not surprising. It came from a longtime party stalwart and onetime Republican candidate for secretary of state. But it did mark a busy day for the GOP. Faced with what...

It is received wisdom that the Democrats cannot regain the Presidency unless they can win the votes of “NASCAR Dads.” Howard Dean’s demeaning phrase was “guys in pick-ups with Confederate flags.” But if the Democrats kiss off the whole South and most of the West, they are not going to see the inside of the White House without a visitor’s pass. Obviously, the Democrats need some NASCAR lessons. They have learned one lesson they shouldn’t have. Stock car races are run on oval tracks with the cars going counterclockwise. All drivers turn left at every opportunity. In racing, this choice...

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (AP) — Here's a challenge: Try finding a Democrat in the NASCAR garage. Richard Petty looked around and smiled. "You'd be hard-pressed," said Petty, the winningest driver in Nextel Cup history and - oh, yeah - a hardcore Republican. If President Bush was looking for a friendly audience in this vitriolic election season, he sure picked the right place. Bush is assured of getting a warm welcome - especially from those on the track - when he attends Sunday's Daytona 500. "He's just a great American," said Terry Labonte, a Bush supporter and fellow Texan. "In times...
