  • Amazon to pay self-published authors based on pages read

could soon pay more to write lengthier books, if you are an author self-publishing on Amazon.com Inc's Kindle ebook platform. Starting next month, the e-commerce giant will pay independent authors based on the number of pages read, rather than the number of times their book has been borrowed. The move is aimed at authors enrolled in Kindle Direct Publishing platform – which lets authors set list prices, decide rights and edit the book at any time – and is applicable to ebooks made available via the Kindle Unlimited and Kindle Owners' Lending Library programs. Self-publishing has transformed what it means...

I can't post the tweet images in here, so you'd have to find those at the site. Prayers. "I hate that this is where we are in this country. I hate that a reprehensible, stomach-turning act like the Charleston shooting ever takes place. I hate the vitriolic responses to it on twitter. And I really, really hate that I have to write something, anything other than: My prayers are with the victim’s families, and America this morning. I also really hate that that statement in and of itself will generate controversy. There was a time in this country where we...

Russia and China have cracked the top-secret cache of files stolen by the fugitive US whistleblower Edward Snowden, forcing MI6 to pull agents out of live operations in hostile countries, according to senior officials in Downing Street, the Home Office and the security services. Western intelligence agencies say they have been forced into the rescue operations after Moscow gained access to more than 1m classified files held by the former American security contractor, who fled to seek protection from Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, after mounting one of the largest leaks in US history. Senior government sources confirmed that China...

So I read this on a Conservative site. It seemed too outlandish at first. I had to check the source. Then another, and then another. Looks legit. Turns out that fake black NAACP chick, Rachel Dolezal, sued her former school over issues of ‘race.’ I can’t stop laughing. From TheSmokingGun IMAGE OF ACTUAL COMPLAINT FILED AT SCHOOL Okay. Once you can stop holding your gut from laughing so hard, move that hand up a little bit. Now to the left. Right on the old ticker. Feel that pain? You should. When he finished the speech, he got a very, very, very long standing ovation. It went on so long, that after he sat down, he stood up again to acknowledge it and kind of put his hands in the shape to tell the crowd thanks but that's enough---It was a really long standing ovation. He is a great speaker and he does have charisma.

Western journalists claim that the big lesson they learned from their key role in selling the Iraq War to the public is that it’s hideous, corrupt and often dangerous journalism to give anonymity to government officials to let them propagandize the public, then uncritically accept those anonymously voiced claims as Truth. But they’ve learned no such lesson. That tactic continues to be the staple of how major US and British media outlets “report,” especially in the national security area. And journalists who read such reports continue to treat self-serving decrees by unnamed, unseen officials – laundered through their media –...

In the 14 years since 9/11, you can count about six real terrorist attacks in the United States. These include the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013, as well as failed attacks, such as the time when a man named Faisal Shahzad tried to deliver a car bomb to Times Square. In those same 14 years, the Bureau, however, has bragged about how it's foiled dozens of terrorism plots. In all, the FBI has arrested more than 175 people in aggressive, undercover counterterrorism stings. These operations, which are usually led by an informant, provide the means and opportunity, and sometimes even...

Iraqi security forces lost 2,300 Humvee armored vehicles when Islamic State overran the northern city of Mosul in June 2014, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Sunday in an interview with Iraqiya state television. Coupled with previous losses of American weapons, the conclusion is simple: The United States is effectively supplying Islamic State with tools of war the militant group cannot otherwise hope to acquire from its patrons. In addition to the Humvees, Iraqi forces previously abandoned significant types and numbers of heavy weapons to Islamic State. For example, losses to Islamic State include at least 40 M1A1 main battle...

It wasn't greed that caused the mortgage mess. In large part, the mess was the product of government policies designed to increase home ownership among the poor and ethnic minorities. Today Peter Wallison points out how Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the FHA created a demand for bad mortgages that encouraged mortgage brokers to generate millions of them. From the Wall Street Journal: Mortgage brokers had to be able to sell their mortgages to someone. They could only produce what those above them in the distribution chain wanted to buy. In other words, they could only respond to demand, not...

I have tried in many different ways to find a listing of government grants. I am not looking to apply but I want to know who is granted my tax dollars. I have found when a group brags about getting one, but is there a listing of grants issued? Similar to the radicals in the sixties who complained their tax dollars going to the “military industrial complex” I don’t think mine should go to La-Raza, Blacklivesmatter, National Action Network, or CAIR among others. Am I looking in the wrong place or is this information purposely not published?

Now many of you are familiar with Milo Yiannopoulos. Many of you are not. You need to fix that about yourselves. As an openly gay man living in London, he’s also capable of verbally expressing his anti-authoritarian, freedom-centered principles better than our talking heads this side of the pond. Unshackled by the chains of political correctness, Milo really does offer a refreshing, challenging and wildly entertaining interview here. Also, for the first time, there’s an extended additional 45minute interview too raw for terrestrial radio! The guy deserves some support. Truly awesome.

Private school kids can read. Classical academy kids can read. Montessori school kids can read. Homeschooled kids can read. Spot the pattern? It’s only kids in public schools who can’t read. Why is that? You would think our education professors would figure out what the schools are doing wrong. In fact, they have not figured out very much in the last 80 years. Our professors seem mainly concerned with perpetuating the wrong ways to teach reading. And so the crisis continues. Truth is, reading is easy to teach and easy to learn. All the phonics experts agree: reading is no...

It’s difficult to describe anything as a “feel good story” on a day when we are commemorating the Honored Dead, but I suppose this story comes as close as any. CBS News is providing the details of a tale which took place long ago in a small village a bit to the north of where I live, in Gowanda, New York. They have a war memorial in their town just like so many other places around the country. But for the lifetime of most of the current residents, one name has been missing. Carroll Heath was a young boy born...
