There were also reports of flooding along the Highway 90 Bypass up to Buffalo Soldier Trail, though beyond the flooding there had been no reports of people in danger, except for one...

Wet weather is again hitting drought-stricken California as the second and larger of two back-to-back storms makes its way ashore. The storms are part of an atmospheric river, a narrow channel of concentrated moisture in the atmosphere connecting tropical air with colder, drier regions around Earth’s middle latitudes.

A few hours after Muslims prayed for rain to relieve the drought affecting California, the Bay Area finally got some rain on Sunday, February 2, soaking parched parks, brown hillsides and thirsty gardens. “Amazing coincidence? Muslims in the Bay Area went out for the Prayer for Rain, next day this happened…,” @mohamedghilan wrote on Twitter, posting an image for Muslims’ prayer for rain. “Shaykh @hamzayusuf & @ImamZaidShakir renewing the Prophetic Sunnah. From the longest drought to the biggest rainfall!” @KQZinstitute added.

Heavy rains hit Israel Monday, causing floods and one serious injury. The coastal plain and western Negev were hardest hit, seeing 20-40 centimeters (8-15 inches) of precipitation. Flooding was reported in the southern coastal plain in Sderot, Rishon Lezion, Ashdod and Ashkelon, among other locales. In the western Negev town of Ofakim, the flooding caused a wall to collapse, seriously injuring a 56-year-old man. He was knocked out, falling with his head in a puddle. The man was transported in critical condition to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba. Israel is not expecting additional heavy rain over the next few days.

Tropical Storm Karen dumped varying amount of rain all over the South Central, tri-county PA area, ranging from 5.6" to 10.2", but the "official" tally is 9.11"; all of it causing widespread flooding and misery. Multi-million-gallon retention ponds and containment areas overflowed quickly, wiping-out travel on roads and streets for much of Friday. I recorded 14.7" at my Condo's Weather Station, in East York, as of Saturday morning, at 6:45am. If you have pics of your area Compared to 2011's TS Lee, which dumped 13" over an even wider area, it's hard to tell much difference from the pictures coming...

Did some research and found plenty of photos of Presidents in the rain. Thought I would share them. Yes I included ones of the current President. Notice the distinct lack of Marines holding umbrellas. No I didn't selectively pick other than image quality. Finding cases of Marines holding umbrellas is hard, almost like it doesn't happen.

Oh, my neighbors to the near north are always finding new and interesting ways to torment their citizens with new taxes. The state just plopped an escalating tax on top of its 23.5-cent gas tax, and now there’s a tax on rainfall. Rain has a price. A last ditch attempt to delay a new stormwater fee failed this week and now Maryland residents could get an unexpected bill this summer. When rain falls, pollutants get flushed into the Chesapeake Bay and because of that the fees will go into effect – a move critics are slamming as a “rain tax.â€The Watershed...

Consider all the ways we’re taxed. When we’re born (birth certificate), when we die (death certificate), when we make money (income tax), when we spend money (sales tax), when we own property (property tax), when we sell property (capital gains tax), when we go to a concert or ball game (amusement tax), when we own a vehicle (license, registration, tolls, gas tax) and special taxes on cell phones, tobacco, alcohol, energy, etc. Then, when we die, they tax our income all over again (death tax). Heck, they even tax our bowel movements (flush tax). But if you thought they ran...

In recent years a warming climate has encouraged wine producers to set up business in England, with vineyards now covering 3,500 acres of countryside. But after a run of bountiful years, many have been left counting the cost of 2012's dreadful weather after the wet summer washed out this years harvest Now a number of the nation's wineries have been left with not enough grapes to produce decent quality wine. The news comes after it was revealed that many British fruit and vegetable crops have been similarly ruined....

Rain washes out DNC opening festivitiesBy Cecelia Hanley Updated: Sep 03, 2012 11:02 PM EDT CHARLOTTE, NC (RNN) – Mother Nature likes messing with the political process. The Republicans had Hurricane Isaac that postponed their festivities in Tampa, and late afternoon summer thunderstorm cut short CarolinaFest2012 for the Democrats. As native North Carolinian James Taylor sang "You've Got a Friend," the skies opened up and people ran for cover under awnings, hotel drive ups, parking garages and covered restaurant patios. Many lingered to see if the concert would continue after a rain delay, but organizers canceled the event. Earlier in...

Obama campaign has an arena fallback plan in case of rainBy BYRON TAU | 9/3/12 8:35 AM EDT CHARLOTTE, N.C. — President Obama's campaign said Monday they would move his primetime address to the Democratic convention inside the Time Warner Cable Arena in downtown Charlotte in the event of rain. "We're still hopeful that we can speak in the stadium," deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said on MSNBC's Daily Rundown. "We always knew that this could be part of the plan," Cutter said. "We'll make a call sometime in the near future about whether to move it indoors."

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President Obama — an ominous beginning to what many fear is a plagued convention. Workers were trying Saturday afternoon to reform the base of the sculpture, built from sand brought in from Myrtle Beach, S.C., pounding and smoothing out the sand that had washed off the facade.
