Friday, October 20, 2017 The Puerto Rican Genocide That Wasn't Posted by Daniel Greenfield The Mayor of San Juan recently took a break from her tour of every cable news network on the planet to text an accusation of genocide aimed at President Trump. Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico on September 20. As we approach...

FReeper help needed, please. Roughly a week or so ago, a FReeper posted an extensive list of relief supplies and ships that had already been delivered to Puerto Rico. Would someone please re-post that list here on this thread? (A link to the original source would be even better!) My granddaughter is in a college politics course, and the prof and students say they haven't heard of any real help the US has supplied to Puerto Rico. (Of course, their source is the MSM-CNN...)

80 percent of Puerto Rico is without power, a result of extensive damage to an already seriously deficient electrical grid. It is expected to take months to fix, and in the meantime, water and sewer systems that rely on electricity for pumping remain compromised.

Be very skeptical of the screeching media, demanding to know why aspects of FEMA recovery efforts aren't happening as fast as they determine it should be. Lying to the American people is something expected. Intentionally causing misery for political gain is also expected of Democrats, no matter how benign-to-lethal that misery will be.

SAN JUAN -- Sen. Bill Nelson doesn’t know how many Puerto Ricans have made their way to Florida since Hurricane Maria ravaged the Caribbean island on Sept. 20. And he doesn’t know how many plan to stay on the mainland as their home slowly recovers. But if they plan to stick around the Sunshine State, the Florida Democrat wants them to go to the polls in 2018, when he’s up for reelection. “If they will register to vote, which I’m certainly going to encourage, because I can tell you among the Puerto Rican community in the greater Orlando area, they...

Geraldo Rivera said his trip to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria confirmed how badly biased the press is against President Trump. "Having seen how he was treated in Puerto Rico and then seeing the press about how he was treated in Puerto Rico it was almost an absolute 100 percent disconnect," the Fox News contributor told "Fox & Friends" on Saturday. Rivera visited Puerto Rico and interviewed the president and first lady as they surveyed storm relief efforts in the devastated country. He remembered crowds who were "ebullient" about the president's visit. The federal government's response to Hurricane Maria has...

(Christian News Alerts) – Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria, and relief efforts have been slowed down by the physical barriers of flooding, fallen trees, and destroyed infrastructure. The limited movement caused by these challenges has led to accusations of negligence by detractors of the Trump administration. Internal issues with Puerto Rican elected officials is also hindering the recovery work. According to the Daily Caller, the US federal prosecutor in Puerto Rico is now investigating government officials who did not deliver hurricane relief to the island’s residents. There is even a case of one Puerto Rican politician who was...

The House overcame a conservative rebellion Thursday to pass a new round of disaster relief, saying the $36.5 billion is needed to replenish funds that are quickly depleting in the wake of hurricanes that have battered Texas, Florida, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The overwhelming 353-69 vote came even as President Trump suggested federal emergency workers cannot remain in Puerto Rico “forever” — and Carmen Yulin Cruz, the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico, accused Mr. Trump of “genocide” for what she said was an antipathy toward her island territory. “I ask every American that has love, and...

Vacations are not supposed to go like this. Never did I imagine that instead of swimming in the Caribbean, we would be trudging through sewage-contaminated water in a desperate attempt to reach the airport. The airport, like everything else in Puerto Rico, was crippled. No electricity, no flights. This was the reality that my wife and I, along with six of our closest friends, were facing days after Maria paid visit to Puerto Rico. It was at the airport hotel that our fate would change. A member of our group, desperately searching for answers, located someone from FEMA. We were...

Left-wing scholars, particularly in academe, make lots of attention getting assertions. Regrettably, they usually offer little in the way of illuminating evidence. "In the midst of almost unimaginable horror in Puerto Rico, a bright light has shone on one of America's most unjustifiable and economically backward laws, the previously obscure Jones Act," Brink Lindsay and Steven Teles wrote on October 2, 2017 for Washington Monthly. "First created in the aftermath of World War I to buffer the impact of post-war demobilization, the Jones Act requires that all ships that carry cargo within the United States be built in America, with...

U.S. federal prosecutor in Puerto Rico Rosa Emilia Rodriguez announced Sunday her investigation into government officials who allegedly did not deliver hurricane relief aid to the island’s residents. During an interview on WAPA Radio, Rodriguez criticized two officials who failed to deliver needed supplies to their constituents, Metro PR reported. “This morning we received information from a town on the Island where a person close to the municipal administration was asking one of our federal agents that the supplies that were there could not be touched because they were for his mayor,” said Rodríguez, noting that the case is currently...

Authored by Tom Sanzillo via ValueWalk.com,President Trump, who knows a thing or two about bankruptcy, says Puerto Rico’s public debt should be wiped out. We agree. The commonwealth owes bondholders somewhere on the order of $70 billion, with most of that debt tied to general-obligation bonds, revenue bonds and bonds issued by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).Ahead of the wide devastation wrought by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, we were of the view that the commonwealth could manage perhaps 20 to 30 percent of its general-obligation and revenue-bond debt and that PREPA could pay off perhaps 30 percent of...

As U.S. soldiers Sunday handed out dozens of boxes of emergency food and water rations in this coastal town, a federal relief official pronounced himself satisfied. “They seem pretty happy right now. I think it’s going great,” said Patrick Hernandez, assistant administrator for field operations for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Just a few feet away, Serafin Roman looked through cyclone fencing at the distribution scene and offered a radically different view: “It’s nasty. People are desperate. They got no water.... Some people are starving.” The scene put a vivid spotlight on the gap between some government views of relief...
