Luck of Providence? Terry Dashner……………..Faith Fellowship Church PO Box 1586 Broken Arrow, OK 74013 Think of dominoes falling and not luck happening. What am I saying? Consider this. The milestones of human history are not free-standing monoliths, occurring by luck. They are, however, like dominoes—one event of time affecting another until milestones arise and provide a signature by which we identify human history. Does that make sense? Listen to this. Author Bill Yenne in his book entitled, 100 Events That Shaped World History (Bluewood Books 1993), “…the Battles of Salamis and Plataea were significant because they prevented the annihilation of...

Rarely has more attention been devoted to a broadcasting-related topic than to the latest attempt at making liberal talk radio work. But how is it really faring? Where a number of national left-wing programs had failed one after another over the years, 2004 saw a concerted effort, backed by partisan funding, to make the Air America Network fly. Other radio syndication companies have since stepped into the mix with their own offerings. Some pretty bold claims are being made at the moment: Jones Radio's Ed Schultz, of Fargo, N.D., claims his show grew faster than Rush Limbaugh's did in his...

Jan 18, 2:18 PM (ET) BOSTON (Reuters) - He survived one of the toughest tests of reality television but now Richard Hatch, the first winner of the U.S. TV series "Survivor," is facing his toughest challenge yet. Hatch failed to report the $1 million he won on "Survivor," federal prosecutors said on Tuesday as they charged him with filing false tax returns. The 43-year-old Hatch, whose brash strategizing propelled him to victory in 2000's "Survivor" series on CBS, is charged on two counts in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Providence, Rhode Island. Prosecutors said Hatch not only...

Like everything else socialist, today’s schools and history books deny at every turn the religious nature of America’s Founding Father’s and the inspiration these great men felt for the cause of liberty. Sadly, many of us have come to accept as fact the fallacy that the Founders and our precious liberties are products of the European Enlightenment (a secular movement). Yet at every turn, the real record, the hidden record, tells a different story—a story of men of faith, men driven not simply by their intellects, but by their hearts, not just by political principle, but by deeply held religious...

The purpose of FreeRepublic.com's multiple message boards is to limit the topics for each board to particular topics. Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! Latin Mass brings more people to church Bishop Fernando A. Rifan, the apostolic administrator for traditionalist Catholics in a diocese in Brazil, visits East Providence and speaks of the resurgence of the traditional Mass. EAST PROVIDENCE -- The Catholic bishop who was tapped by the Vatican as the pastoral leader for thousands of Catholics in Brazil who remain attached to the old Latin Mass says he's convinced the rite will play a crucial role in the renewal of the church. "Because the guidelines and structure of the Tridentine rite are so much more strict, I believe it will protect us...

Made it through about 18 tornadoes last night. One person didn't. I have a few pictures of the devastation along with some comments and prayers.

Consistent conservative Toomey is accustomed to success By Patrick Kerkstra Inquirer Staff Writer In the late 1970s, when inflation was rampant and memories of Watergate and the Vietnam War were still raw, Pat Toomey spent part of each school day in a high school history classroom quietly seething. It was the teacher who got under his skin. Too many lectures were about capitalism's failings, corruption in Washington, or how America was no better than the Soviet Union. None of it squared with Toomey's patriotic take on U.S. history or his budding conservative ideology. "I felt we were a great, great...

Traffic bottlenecks across the nation have increased by 40% since 1999, a new report shows. Despite that, delays are being reduced at some of the nation's most infamous chokepoints such as Albuquerque's "Big I" and Chicago's "Hillside Strangler." "Bottlenecks have spread to new areas," said Diane Steed, president of American Highway Users Alliance, a coalition of automakers, construction companies, automobile clubs and bus companies. "The good news is that when you come up with plans to alleviate congestion, you can make a difference." An alliance study to be released today found that the number of major highway bottlenecks in the...

31 December, 2003If you're not a "nice guy"... by Jeffrey JacksonSearching for one’s vocation in life is a most daunting task. This is especially true given that society today is not only apathetic, but perhaps hostile, to the meaning of the word "vocation." It is no longer within the standard definition of the term "success" to have found a vocation. Oftentimes, a man of faith searching for his vocation, perhaps with lack of encouragement from his family and certainly no help from society, will turn to his diocesan vocation office for much needed wisdom and guidance on these critical matters....

Manna up-close (left) and a valley full of manna (right) SINAI PENINSULA, EGYPT – In a startling new discovery that is turning the heads of biblical scholars and skeptics alike, manna—a nondescript bread-like eatable—has reportedly been found covering the ground each morning in a dry and desolate region outside of Serabit El-Khadem. Hossam Almeleh, an anthropology student at the University of Cairo, was conducting a research project with Dr. Daunis Abadi and two of his classmates when he stumbled upon a 27-acre desert flat completely covered with a white bread-like substance. "I had only walked over a knoll a...

'The death of Uday and Qusay," the commander of the ground forces in Iraq told reporters on Wednesday, "is definitely going to be a turning point for the resistance." Well, it was a turning point, but unfortunately not of the kind he envisaged. On the day he made his announcement, Iraqi insurgents killed one US soldier and wounded six others. On the following day, they killed another three; over the weekend they assassinated five and injured seven. Yesterday they slaughtered one more and wounded three. This has been the worst week for US soldiers in Iraq since George Bush declared...

(Providence-AP) -- Federal investigators say a decorated Vietnam war veteran has admitted he improperly obtained one of his awards. Bruce Cotta admitted he purchased the Distinguished Service Cross over the Internet after the Army rejected his application for the Congressional Medal of Honor. Cotta, of Middletown, then forged the papers that would go along with the Distinguished Service Cross and sent them to Representative Patrick Kennedy, making it appear they came from the Army. Kennedy presented the Distinguished Service Cross -- Army's second-highest honor -- to Cotta in a ceremony in August 2000. The F-B-I began investigating after the Army...

In the spring of 1999, as George W. Bush was about to announce his run for President, he agreed to be interviewed about his religious faith -- grudgingly. "I want people to judge me on my deeds, not how I try to define myself as a religious person of words." It's hard to believe that's the same George W. Bush as now. Since taking office -- and especially in the last weeks -- Bush's personal faith has turned highly public, arguably more so than any modern president. What's important is not that Bush is talking about God but that he's...

Chapter 13 The Providence of GodWe believe that the same God, after He had created all things, did not forsake them or give them up to fortune or chance, but that He rules and governs them according to His holy will, so that nothing happens in this world without His appointment; nevertheless, God neither is the Author of nor can be charged with the sins which are committed. For His power and goodness are so great and incomprehensible that he orders and executes His work in the most excellent and just manner, even then when devils and wicked men act...

Thomas S. Buchanan on God & Science For several years I taught a course to fresh-men on basic mechanics. In this course a teacher will begin by assuming that the universe is a very simple place where all ropes are massless, all pulleys are frictionless, and everything has only two dimensions. It is amazing how many problems you can solve when assuming that we live in such a strange universe. As the students progress and master simple mechanics, the teacher must introduce a third dimension, gravitational forces, and friction. The problems can no longer be solved so easily. That is, once...
