5Saga Liberal Talk 1470 WNYY Ithaca NY will drop the format for Oldies on February 1. In an interview with the Ithaca Times, General Manager Chet Osadchey stated that the move is due to lack of programming to fill out a schedule as only Alan Colmes, Thom Hartmann, and Stephanie Miller remain as many others have left syndication. Osadchey made sure to emphasize that it wasn’t politically motivated decision. No word yet if Saga’s additional Liberal Talkers in Bellingham WA, Brattleboro VT, and Springfield MA will make similar moves away from the format.

With the number of Progressive Talk stations dwindling, yet another syndicated Liberal Talker is ending their terrestrial radio shows. Ed Schultz will cease production of his daily 12-3pm eastern show on Friday in order to focus more attention on his MSNBC TV show. In its place Schultz will host a one hour streaming program and podcast on his WeGotEd.com. The podcast will debut on Tuesday, May 27. As of March 18th, “AM with I.Q., 1230 KJFK” will no longer be on-the air. KJFK recently passed the mark of 8 years as Northern Nevada’s only voice of the Progressive viewpoint. A lone voice apart from other radio stations in Reno airing views, information and attitudes from those who hold a Conservative ideology, and by the way, in competition with us for the ears of people interested the issues so vital to our country. KPTQ had been a progressive talk station going back to the Air America days, and continued even after they went belly-up. The ink wasn't even dry on FCC and Anti-trust approval of the Comcast - NBC merger when the channel's highest rated host got the ax. Keith Olbermann has been fired. Looks like another Air America-style station has signed on, only it's _not_ Air America...WTOU 1350 in Akron, OH has changed to "Radio Free Ohio" running progressive talkers like Lionel, Stephanie Miller, and Thom Hartmann. NO Air America (Frankenfraud, etc.) Another station in town, the poor-signal WJMP, runs that.
