Jim Robinson has created and maintains a huge treasure trove of news and information here at FreeRepublic.com. He gladly shares it with us Freepers and the rest of the world (a.k.a. - lurkers). And thanks to Jim and staff, FreeRepublic has a fantastic search engine (far surpassing Google), IMHO, due to the plethora of relevant news and information from around the world posted by us Freepers. For lack of a better description, I would classify FreeRepublic as a huge historical news and information database thanks to all of the postings and comments of Freepers (and a few disrupters - ZOT!!)....

I don't post a lot of vanities, but today, I just had to rant. Someone posted an article this morning and entered the SOURCE URL where the SOURCE should have been. No big deal? Well, it is to me, at least on my computer. When someone does that it totally screws up the INDEX page, and instead of seeing a list of articles AND the material in the sidebars, all I get to see is (depending on how long the url is) a portion of the header and none of the sidebar. It makes it impossible to read Free Republic....

Ladies and gents, I have a problem. I've posted here for years, and I've let it slide until now. I should have asked these questions before, but I was too lazy/indifferent to bother. Anyway, it's gotten to the point where I can't take it anymore. I can't post pictures. I can't italicize the text that I want to respond to. I can't post links. I can't post text in different colors or fonts. I've tried tinkering with the settings on Free Republic. I've tried tinkering with my web browser. Can someone out there give me an idiot-proof explaination of what...

What's up with the main forum pages??? The abibility to post a new thread directly form the Forum page is missing. We used to be at the top right and now it's gone. To post a new article we have to go to an existing article to find the Post Article link.

Onward Christian Straw Men by: Malcolm A. Kline, December 04, 2007 The myth of marauding Christian street gangs has really taken hold among academic elites who pride themselves on demythologizing myths. When I recently wrote about the concerted effort in academic circles to banish doubters of Darwin’s theory of evolution from faculties everywhere, a poster on Free Republic offered this reminiscence:

Just a suggestion for the FR powers that be (do we have a suggestion box?): Can another posting section be added below "Title of Thread", such as "description", "subject" or "sub-title"? I have noticed many duplicate postings are due not as much from failure to search, as failure to use original article titles in favor of a more descriptive thread. I think there is a place for both, and currently many posters will put their descriptive/subject text in parentheses after the title. Unfortunately this is not common practice and not defined as proper method although it obviously allows searches to...

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST. I have a photoshopped .jpg I want to post to Free Republic. But it is something only on my PC, not with a pre-existing web address, which I would already know how to link to. Any help appreciated... Full Disclosure: Or, if anyone has instructions for a low-cost photo hosting site, that'd be a 2nd best.

Hi everyone, it's been awhile since we had a refresher course on the posting guidelines. We've had a lot of newbies sign up. Welcome Aboard! The more the merrier! And it doesn't hurt you longtimes to re-read this. As always, we're here to help. Ask questions, we'll do our best to answer. Are you ready maggot? SEARCH If it's a breaking news topic, check breaking news first, it's probably already posted. Check the breaking news sidebar first. Don't try to be the first one with the story, you've already been beaten by about eight threads. To avoid duplicate posts, please...

Annoying someone via the Internet is now a federal crime. It's no joke. Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity. In other words, it's OK to flame someone on a mailing list or in a blog as long as you do it under your real name. Thank Congress for small favors, I guess. This ridiculous prohibition, which would likely imperil much of Usenet, is buried in the so-called Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Reauthorization Act. Criminal penalties include stiff fines and two...

I've noticed that there appeared to be more postings to go through on weekdays. So I got the Alexa Daily Reach graph and used Excel to overlay weekends as red bars for Saturday and Sunday. The resulting graph is below. (Postings would have been better but I didn't know where to find that data.)

We've had many new folks join up recently. Welcome aboard, this thread is a gentle reminder of some basic posting guidelines. (And for some of you old timers as well) Please read the follow, and ask any questions. We will all try to help you out. Anyone who has a link that might be useful, feel free to post it.

When posting to the message board at http://www.ksszfm.com/ the paragraphs are often strung together. My question here is how do I block and separate the paragraphs in my post? This message board could use some help if any of you freepers have time. There are some real anti-Christian bigots that often post vile messages.

Can someone tell me why a quote from Bloomberg.com can't or shouldn't be posted here?

Vanity, but should be required by all "newbs" before posting. They then must take a test afterwards before posting. :) Posting and you...

Deer are a boon and a benefit to my neighborhood. While city planners are busy destroying the beauty of our town, deer have moved in to beautify it. These handsome and harmless citizens should be declared sacred, like their cousins in India. Deer to not cause accidents -- people do. Deer are victims of the evil and ever burgeoning automobile population. Driven by reckless fanatics, cars are noisy, polluting killers of all manner of wildlife, including people.
