The gunman who murdered a police officer in an attack on Canada's Parliament building, Michael Zehef-Bibeau is reported to be a recent convert to Islam: "U.S. officials said that U.S. agencies have been advised that the shooter was a Canadian convert to Islam." Zehef-Bibeau also recently had his passport confiscated because he was deemed a "high-risk traveler." Just before 10 o'clock this morning, Zehef-Bibeau opened fire in Ottawa, Canada, and murdered a Canadian soldier. The soldier has been identified as Nathan Cirillo. Whether he is specifically tied to ISIS is still unknown.

I do not know where the above picture was taken.   I recall that I saw many empty holsters on police in Panama at shift change.   The practice was that the police did not keep a pistol with them; they were issued one at work, and turned it in at the end of the shift.  I vaguely recall seeing a banana or plantain in a couple of them. I understand that Mexican police generally keep their firearms with them, but several other countries in Central and South America have the same policy as I saw in Panama.   Police in...

The person who attacked the officer reportedly opened fire just before 10 o'clock this morning. Authorities believe he was driving this car: The gunman then opened fire in the Parliament building. He was eventually killed by the sergeant-at-arms, Kevin Vickers.
  • Iran’s regional hegemony threatened by the war against ISIS

The next few months will be decisive for the Iranian regime, which sees a strategic defeat looming on the horizon as all of its red lines in the Middle East are being trampled After years of enjoying the position of the main hegemon in Iraq and Syria, Iran is now facing an escalating dilemma as other powers have entered the scene to deal with the rising threat of the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL), an extremist group which has occupied stretches of Iraqi and Syrian territory in the past months. Previously, Iran had taken advantage of the...
  • Skirt-fronting Putin Can Help Eradicate Islamic State Crisis

“Skirt-fronting” could well become the new buzz word in international diplomacy The possibility of Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott shirt-fronting Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 Summit in Brisbane next month over the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH 17 in Ukrainian sovereign territory with the loss of all on board - including 38 Australians - has receded following Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop’s 25 minute meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the Asian Europe Summit held in Milan this week. Abbott had vowed: “I’m going to shirtfront Mr Putin. I am going to be saying to Mr...
  • Paul Krugman Uncovers a Right-Wing Conspiracy at Amazon.com

The Times columnist suggests a government crackdown for selling conservative books too quickly. Big-government aficionado Paul Krugman is calling for “public action to curb the power” of an entity he can’t quite bring himself to call a monopoly, even as he nonetheless compares its “abuses” to those of John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil company. The subject of his ire? “Amazon.com, the giant online retailer, has too much power, and it uses that power in ways that hurt America,” Krugman whines. “Does Amazon really have robber-baron-type market power? When it comes to books, definitely,” Krugman insists. “Amazon overwhelmingly dominates online book...
  • No Ebola Panic Despite Media Hysteria

The outcome of the midterm elections will have a dramatic effect on Obama’s ability to continue his destruction of the U.S. economy and other policies. One man has died of Ebola in the U.S. and he came here from Liberia. Two of the nurses that tended him are in intensive care and likely to survive. A third was thought to be infected, but wasn’t. That news has been sufficient to keep most Americans calm as the media has done its best to exploit Ebola-related news. The public absorbed the facts and came to their own conclusion. An October 8 Pew...

Message to Detroit: The UN’s got the money, the UN’s got the water No one, and most especially Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, should be surprised that two United Nations lawyers came to town to scold city officials for cutting off water to delinquent customers, sanctimoniously describing the water shut-offs as a “human rights” violation. The United Nations virtually owns cities and towns of North America like Detroit. They’re just not usually that open about it. The UN ownership of cities and towns is called Agenda 21.

Every election cycle I see this story and it's always...ALWAYS...accidental votes for Democrats. From Fox News Early voting in Illinois got off to a rocky start Monday, as votes being cast for Republican candidates were transformed into votes for Democrats.Republican state representative candidate Jim Moynihan went to vote Monday at the Schaumburg Public Library.“I tried to cast a vote for myself and instead it cast the vote for my opponent,” Moynihan said. “You could imagine my surprise as the same thing happened with a number of races when I tried to vote for a Republican and the machine registered a vote...
  • Greenfield: You Can’t Reform Islam Without Reforming Muslims

Wednesday, October 22, 2014 You Can’t Reform Islam Without Reforming Muslims Posted by Daniel Greenfield @ the Sultan Knish blog Every few years the debate over reforming Islam bubbles up from the depths of a culture that largely censors any suggestion that Islam needs reforming. But Islam does not exist apart from Muslims. It is not an abstract entity that can be changed without changing its followers. And if Islam has not changed, that is because Muslims do not want it to. Mohammed and key figures in Islam provided a template, but that template would not endure if it did...

This installment continues by exposing how Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt were Communist lovers both politically and physically; how FDR pulled the dirtiest most disgusting stunt a Democrat had pulled to that time. During Roosevelt’s second term, American sentiment against involvement in Europe’s war grew. Most Americans were opposed to entering a war. Over estimating his mandate in foreign policy as he had in domestic affairs, Roosevelt allowed Britain to convince him to violate our clearly drawn neutrality laws which prescribed keeping a distance from the combatants in Europe and Asia. [37] As a Democrat and dictator Roosevelt...

  • Delighting in U.S. Leadership Void, Castro Regime Rounds-Up Record # of Political Prisoners in 2014

What happened to Raul Castro's 'reforms'? Watchdog/advocacy group 'The Cuban Commission for Human Rights" (CCHR) has now documented over 8000 political arrests -that we know of-by the vile Castro regime this year, already beating last year's (2013) tally of 6424 hapless souls thrown in filthy Cuban prisons to slave, starve, and die. 10,000 new prisoners is well within the realm of possibility now, trouncing previous records of 2074 political arrests in 2010, 4123 arrests in 2011, and 6602 in 2012. So there's no denying that the year 2014 -under the leadership of 'reformer' Raul Castro- has brought the harshest Stalinist repression in the history of an already-very-repressive-country....
  • Frustrated Parent Posts Ridiculous Common Core Math Question that Teaches to Solve 7x5 in Six Steps

A concerned parent posted a picture of their third grader's common core math homework yesterday. Frustrated, they called the homework "ridiculous." Just how ridiculous? Third graders are now being taught how to multply single digit numbers using six steps. Common Core is the over-complication of simple problems. So, how do you solve 7 times 5? You don't just solve it quickly in your head. You don't count by seven five times. Instead, you are supposed to break five into two smaller numbers. It doesn't explain why you don't break seven down, but students are supposed to instantly know that five...

Boy, it’s getting interesting out there. Take the Republicans’ War on Women (WOW) for example; it’s probably the Stockholm Syndrome, butt apparently women are beginning to identify with their oppressors:Why? Well, I’ll let Tina Brown (yes, that Tina Brown) explain why women feel “unsafe” with Obama: “Economically, they’re feeling unsafe. With regard to ISIS, they’re feeling unsafe. They feel unsafe about Ebola. What they’re feeling unsafe about is the government response to different crises.” “I said, handle it!” “And I think they’re beginning to feel a bit that Obama’s like that guy in the corner office, you know, who’s too...

Matt Dorschel, on the left Last Wednesday, 15 October, the University of Idaho held a forum on "guns on campus".   The main presenter was Matt Dorschel, university executive director for public safety and security.  While the forum attracted only a few students and faculty, the policy presented was radical.   From the Lewiston Tribune (pdf): Dorschel said any firearm sighting is grounds to call 911 even if a person is not purposely showing their weapon. He said firearm holders have a responsibility to conceal their weapons and they are violating the university's policy if they don't.  Despite this strict interpretation...

Monday evening in Ferguson, Mo., protestors shouted down a CNN camera crew’s live shot reporting on developments in the story involving Officer Darren Wilson killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown earlier this year. During the 11 p.m. hour, host Don Lemon attempted to throw to CNN reporter Sarah Sidner for an update, but the broadcast was overwhelmed by shouting and interruptions from protestors surrounding the crew. Sidner attempted to talk through the shouting, but her audio was clearly problematic. Lemon cut her off and ended the satellite broadcast due to technical issues. On-the-ground video from Bassem Masri shows the aftermath, in...

A Missouri state senator was arrested after causing a disturbance at a Ferguson police station. The senator, Jamilah Nasheed, had a fully loaded 9mm handgun and eight additional rounds on her person. Senator Nasheed refused to take a breathalyzer test, despite having a strong smell of alcohol. Nasheed was arrested and charged with violation of a Obey Lawful Order of Police and Manner of Walking in the Roadway. Nasheed claims innocence, stating that: “It was a symbolic arrest – sending a message to the protesters that we can protest peacefully and that we must protest peacefully and that we want...
