August 25 shall henceforth be know as the "Day of Rage" (brought to you by the Justice Brothers®) – a day on which we commemorate the slaughter of Michael Brown, the "gentle giant" who was just starting to get his life back together after graduating from Anger Management class. Given that Michael roughed up 2 men in less than an hour before he was gunned down after assaulting a police officer in cold blood we can only assume he didn’t graduate in the top quintile of his class.Butt this isn’t about Michael, it’s about the men who came to honor...

Sheriff Joe Arpaio sent out this bitter attack on Barack Obama this morning. Arpaio accuses Barack Obama of leading an attack on the United States. The popular sheriff says President Obama is “rewarding criminals.” Our country is under attack. And Barack Obama is the aggressor. That’s right. Our own President has overseen the release of thousands of illegal immigrants…hundreds of whom are convicted criminals – even felons, which are flooding into America. Every day you read the newspaper or turn on the news, there is something tragic happening, something Obama says is beyond our control. But I must tell you:...

The racial unrest caused by tensions over the shooting of black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., could be a rallying cry for Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts, according to the voter education committee chair for the Democratic Southern caucus.

A breakfast restaurant in Vermont helped plant flower beds in city traffic medians. For their efforts the city of Winooski allowed Sneakers Bistro a sign on a lamp post. The sign read “yield for Sneakers bacon.” This apparently caused one Muslim great offense. You see, Muslims don’t eat pork. The Muslim complained loudly online and the city and Sneakers Bistro relented, removing the bacon sign while loudly proclaiming they don’t get involved in politics. Who knew bacon was a political issue? The mayor of Winooski, Kathrine Decarreau, believes the “cool part of living in a diverse community is that it’s...

As hundreds of Ferguson, Mo., residents attend the funeral of teenager Michael Brown on Monday, the New York Times has come under fire for claiming that Brown, who was shot and killed by a white police officer on Aug. 9, was "no angel." Here's the offending passage: Michael Brown, 18, due to be buried on Monday, was no angel, with public records and interviews with friends and family revealing both problems and promise in his young life. Shortly before his encounter with Officer Wilson, the police say he was caught on a security camera stealing a box of cigars, pushing...

When does media reporting become actual collusion with selling propaganda? Perhaps the story of Mike Brown’s autopsy will provide food for thought. We suspected from the outset the Parks and Crump version of the Mike Brown autopsy was likely just a propaganda ploy to sell their narrative. We knew New York Times reporter Frances Robles was sympathetic to their scheme because she was similarly predisposed in 2012 with the Trayvon Martin narrative. Frances Robles arrived in Ferguson Missouri the morning of the autopsy Aug 17th. Perhaps she and forensic pathologist Dr. Baden flew in together. After all, they departed the...

Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky is an intriguing figure on many counts. As Americans and as conservatives we owe the Senator heartfelt thanks and applause for bringing vital issues of privacy and governmental overreach to forefront of the national debate. He, better than most Republicans, has been able to reach out beyond the tradition party base, specifically among black, libertarian and younger voters. However, his continued insistence of playing the role of "dove" on foreign policy renders him unqualified to be our Commander-in-Chief and therefore Rand Paul should not be given the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination. In comments made...

Saudi poll to reveal public’s level of sympathy for IS The Sakina Campaign plans to carry out a scientific survey to determine the position of the Saudi public on the “caliphate” announced by the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria. This comes after the results of an opinion poll of Saudis were released on social networking sites, claiming that 92% of the target group believes that “IS conforms to the values of Islam and Islamic law.” Observers believe that in the current period, it is most important to “focus on the roots of extremism and to address and fight...

Staying on the topic of debt (see earlier post: http://trueeconomics.blogspot.ie/2014/08/2382014-that-pesky-problem-of-real-debt.html) here is IMF research on real cost of corporate capital (linked to the cost of debt) in the Euro area 'periphery' (this is from an IMF July 2014 publication that accompanied its Article 4 paper on Euro Area). I highlighted with the red the range of recent capital costs range in each country to trace out historical comparatives. Two points: •Current real cost of capital across the euro area is relatively benign, compared to both 1990s - early 2000s period and shows low volatility in recent (crisis) years post 2009...

"Egalitarianism" sounds so good, progressive, enlightened and compassionate. And above all, of course, caring. But in reality the opposite of all those adjectives is closer to the truth of egalitarianism. For the only way to make all the individuals of a society equal is to reduce everyone to the lowest common denominator. Recently it was the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. Three years later, in 1917, the Russian Revolution took place. This should remind us that in the past almost 100 years during which attempts at equalisation were repeatedly made, everybody - except...

Arizona’s Republican governor Jan Brewer is sliding none too gracefully out the door of the ninth floor office she has occupied in the state Executive Tower. That’s the same office she was so warmly welcomed to in January 2009, when Democrat Janet Napolitano took an early hike to sign on with the Obama administration. Republicans greeted the change with jubilation. (SNIP) Jan Brewer, a woman with over three decades of political experience under her belt, has chosen a destructive path as she wraps up her final term. Rather than remaining neutral in statewide and legislative races, or endorsing GOP incumbents,...

Under the headline, “McCain retreats on immigration reform,” the daily runs this report and video clip from McCain’s interview with Brahm Resnik on KPNX 12 News’ Sunday Square Off,* which aired this morning at 8 a.m. The entire Sunday Square off show can be viewed here. (SNIP) McCain: “We need to assure the American people that the border is secure. People in AZ are so cynical about the promises that have been made about a secure border. Doing the right things and spending the right money, we can have a 90 percent effective control of the border within two years.”

In JEFF SILVESTER v. KAMALA HARRIS, the United States District Court for the eastern District of California found that the 10 day waiting period to receive a firearm after a background check, was a violation of the second amendment for people who already owned a firearm (and could be shown to do so in the California database), who had a valid CCW license in California, or who owned a firearm and had a Certificate of Exemption (COE). This is a significant win for restoration of second amendment rights in California.  The court gave the government of California 180 days...

They are here and gathering strength. “There are definitely ISIS sleeper cells already in place in America.” Last week a former CIA agent made this stunning statement. The animals are here already. The seventh century savages who will murder us because they hate us are here in sleeper cells waiting for the opportunity to strike. The agent continued, “I have been told with no uncertainty there are ISIS sleeper cells in this country.” Thereafter, in a perfect example of why we are in so much trouble, CNN found two feckless government officials to “refute” the claim. Which side of this...

We’ll see how bad things have to get before the reality of events in the Middle East overtake President Obama’s fantasy world While President Obama has begun to talk tough about ISIS, and on Wednesday said “we will continue to confront this hateful terrorism and replace it with a sense of hope and civility,’ he gave no indication there was any kind of clear strategy that was being developed by his administration. Taking a few minutes to express his outrage at Foley’s beheading he headed off to another day of playing golf. Yet as greater military involvement by America looks...

ISIS terrorists are getting away with murder--and doing so right over the Internet It is the trappings of Western society like the social media known as “Twitter” allowing fanatical terrorists to move with ease and freedom among the innocent and left-vulnerable-by-their-own-government masses. In June when the Sunday Times revealed a threat made by London hip-hop artist Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary—now key suspect in the hunt for the killer of American journalist James Foley—what was done about it? “The lions are coming for you soon you filthy kuffs (infidels),” he wrote. “Beheadings in your own backyard soon.” (Yahoo News, Aug. 25, 2014...

In an earlier post, I reported that Time Magazine had recycled a 2009 blood libel from the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, which accused Israel of harvesting and selling 'Palestinians' organs. Having been called on their slander, Time has now corrected the video in question. On Sunday, the magazine deleted the allegations from a two-minute video on its website about the Israel Defense Forces and added a correction, writing at the end, “Correction: The original version of this video cited a contested allegation in a 2009 Swedish newspaper report as fact. The allegation has been removed from the video.” The video,...

Another little Black boy was murdered in Chicago this week and noted social arsonist Father Michael Pfleger held a service for him and lamented, “[Antonio’s] slaying can’t be tolerated.” Sorry pastor but you are quite wrong about that. On Wednesday August 20 while Ferguson, Missouri was burning and collapsing under the weight of rioters reacting to the shooting death of a petty criminal at the hands of a police officer, a little boy was shot dead in the streets of Chicago. His name was Antonio Smith. He was nine years old. It’s a safe bet that you have not heard...
