Virginia State Police troopers have joined the pursuit of a tractor-trailer that started in Germantown, Md. The chase started on Interstate 270 after an incident with police. The driver of the Western Express truck refused to stop. Stop sticks have been used to deflate the tires, but the truck has continued into Virginia and is at Tysons Corner. Montgomery County police and Maryland State Police also are involved in the pursuit. No injuries have been reported.

Phoenix — Two helicopters collided in midair and crashed while covering a police pursuit in central Phoenix Friday afternoon, killing at least two people. Both helicopters were news choppers from local television stations.

The suspect in a police chase on Panama Lane Saturday afternoon crashed into a line of vehicles waiting at a stop light and killed an innocent bystander, according to police. The dead man was identified as Daniel Wayne Dawson, 36, of Bakersfield. A man fleeing police at speeds in excess of 120 mph was arrested after crashing into two other cars in separate incidents during a midafternoon chase on northbound state Route 163. The 25-year-old suffered injuries in the second collision near Kearny Villa Road and was taken to a hospital. Two other drivers injured in the crashes also were hospitalized. The incident began about 2:30 p.m. in Hillcrest on Vermont Street, where a woman called 911 to report that her boyfriend had threatened to commit suicide by crashing his blue BMW convertible on a freeway. San Francisco -- Police cars chasing a suspect need to have more than flashing lights and a siren if a driver is charged with evading police, the California Supreme Court said Monday. In clarifying a key element necessary to convict a motorist of evading police, the court said the vehicle must look like an official police car. Ruling 5-2, the justices said a vehicle must be equipped with a siren, police lights in addition to some other feature marking it as an official vehicle.
