JONESVILLE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Former Chief of Police Skylar Dore pleaded his case with citizens of Jonesville, but many of them didn't want to hear it.. "I'm sorry, but you should have thought about it before you even hit those keys," says Sharon Stevenson, a resident of Jonesville. Dore is referring to the racist remarks Dore made on Facebook about President Obama, criticizing his handling of the police shootings in Dallas and Baton rouge "It hurt. I'm going to be honest. That brought tears to me because then I saw some of the racial comments coming up," says...

WILKES-BARRE — Luzerne County corrections officer Kristopher Moules and inmate Timothy Darnelle Gilliam Jr. smashed through a closed elevator door at the county prison and fell several floors down the elevator shaft to their deaths Monday night, county Manager C. David Pedri said Tuesday. Describing the situation as a “freak accident,” Pedri said at a news conference that “something happened” to cause the door to jump off its track and open. He said the county has retained a state expert to identify the problem, and he promised to publicly release the expert’s findings and implement any recommended corrective action.

The repeated exoneration of allegedly racist cops by minority jurors and judges — from Ferguson and Staten Island to Cleveland and now Baltimore — seriously undermines the anti-cop movement started by Black Lives Matter and fueled by President Obama. With half the Baltimore cops now acquitted in the death of Freddie Gray, a pattern has emerged where highly publicized cases against cops for racially motivated murder of black suspects have crumbled under the weight of court evidence.

A billboard in Indiana has caused some controversy in the wake of the high-profile police killings and officer-involved shooting deaths of African-American men. The electronic billboard in Muncie caught the eyes of plenty of people around the town Saturday and one person described it as “vulgar” and “discriminatory.” It read “Hate cops? The next time you need help call a crackhead.”

If we don't stop making excuses for the actions of bad people, all Americans will start shooting one another. Less than a week after five Dallas law enforcement officers were killed by a lunatic gunman, the nation is again reeling from a deadly confrontation between cops and an ex-military extremist. This past Sunday, former Marine Gavin Long gunned down three officers in Baton Rouge, a city on edge after police shot Alton Sterling, a black man, on July 5. I dread the day one of my cop friends is shot by a crazy shooter seeking revenge for the murder of...

A year ago, two police officers in New York were executed while they sat in their patrol car. A week ago, five cops were killed in Dallas. Now three more officers have been murdered in Baton Rouge by a man inspired to kill because he believed the news about police unfairly targeting black men. If you are to believe to President Obama, who issued a statement right after the shooting, these events should not be linked to anyone or any movement: “These attacks are the work of cowards who speak for no one. They right no wrongs. They advance no...

Full title: State troopers from Mass., N.H. arrested and charged with assault after video showed officers punching driver Authorities in New Hampshire said that they had arrested two state troopers and charged them with assault for their actions during a violent arrest captured on video earlier this year. The arrest occurred after a long police chase that began in Massachusetts and ended in New Hampshire, after which at least two officers were seen on the video repeatedly punching the driver who had led the pursuit. After video of the incident began to spread online, Joseph Foster, the New Hampshire attorney...
  • Officer Matthew Gerald: The picture of a hero

It’s been said that the true test of a man's character is what he does when nobody's watching. That test came when one of the Baton Rouge Police officers killed in Sunday’s attack, Matthew Gerald, had a brief encounter with a woman who was having a really bad day. Diane Spears’ truck had stopped in the middle of traffic. Stranded and blocking traffic, Diane called police to get help. Officer Gerald was off-duty and on his way home when he spotted Diane’s truck in the busy roadway. She says Officer Gerald stopped and immediately jumped in to help and pushed...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The loss of three more police officers in Baton Rouge over the weekend demonstrates the importance of the federal government doing everything it can to help police officers go home at night and be safe, President Barack Obama said Tuesday after meeting with key leaders of his domestic security team. Obama said there is great interest among police departments nationwide in receiving additional training to deal with active-shooter events and to decrease tensions before violence occurs, but that more resources will be necessary. He said many police departments could also use more help purchasing bullet-proof vests. He...

President Barack Obama wrote an open letter to law enforcement officers on Tuesday in which he reiterated “full-throated support” for America’s boys in blue and deemed “any attack on police [as] an unjustified attack on all of us.” Obama opened by praising police for “time and again, [making] the split-second decisions that could mean life or death for you and many others in harm’s way.”“Every day, you accept this responsibility and you see your colleagues do their difficult, dangerous jobs with equal valor,” he added. “I want you to know that the American people see it, too. Boston police are being warned to check their cars before driving off after a cop's vehicle was tampered with. The officer, whose name is not being released, was driving away from the police department's District 1 station, in central Boston, yesterday when his rear wheel came off. He was not injured in the incident but when the cop took the car to the shop for repairs, a mechanic found the car had been tampered with. Someone had loosened or removed the lug nuts holding the wheel in place before he drove away. Members of the Wichita, Kan., police department spent Sunday afternoon eating and talking with people from the community, at a cookout that was planned with the local Black Lives Matter group. The event was called the First Steps Community Cookout — a reference to its goal of bridging the gap between police and the community they serve. Taking place instead of a protest that had been planned for Sunday, the cookout came about after Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay had a lengthy meeting with activist A.J. Bohannon and other members of the local Black Lives Matter movement. Bohannon told member...

Any hopes that the nation’s first black president could uplift the nation’s black underclass went up in smoke Sunday when Barack Obama doubled down on his blaming of America’s police for the recent cop massacres that amount, as Heather Mac Donald rightly says, to a war on cops. I argued two decades ago in The Dream and the Nightmare that changes in elite culture during the 1960s had a catastrophic effect on the most disadvantaged Americans in ghetto neighborhoods. That decade’s sexual revolution removed the stigma from out-of-wedlock pregnancy. An explosion of inner-city illegitimacy ensued, with between 70 and 90...
