Japanese police are hunting a poetry-writing killer after the bodies of five people were found in a tiny mountain village. The five victims represent a third of the population of the hamlet in western Yamaguchi prefecture, where police found three corpses on Sunday after two houses were burned to the ground. It had been nearly two decades since I owned a cell phone when I decided recently to purchase an ATT cell phone, using their GoPhone program. With the debate over gun control heating up, a retired volunteer at a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign made a timely find. Ernie Gullerud, a former professor of social work at the university, came upon a previously unpublished poem by Carl Sandburg titled "A Revolver," which addresses the issue of guns and violence.

There's so much bad news in the world now, especially for folk on our side of the political spectrum. So it's important to take a few minutes now and then to realise that it is not ALL doom and gloom out there.
