Democratic U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman’s campaign on Monday called for Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz to fire two campaign staffers who were at the rally that preceded the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. “Dr. Oz and his disgustingly radical campaign must fire these insurrectionist staffers immediately,” Fetterman campaign spokesman Joe Calvello said in a statement. “These people are a direct threat to our American democracy, and they embody Republican extremism at it worst.” A report by Rolling Stone revealed that two of Oz’s staffers, Northampton County campaign coordinator Lee Snover and paid political adviser Josh Bashline of Clarion...

A Middletown councilman has apologized for posting a conservative political cartoon on his Facebook page Saturday that depicted the death of George Floyd and criticized Democratic policies. The cartoon labeled “Defund Democrats,” from an extreme right-wing conservative site, featured one character as a black man pinned to the ground labeled “Black Communities Matter,” and another character labeled “decades of Democratic policies,” in a police uniform with his knee on the other character’s neck. The Facebook page of Councilman Richard Kluskiewicz identified him as a Middletown Council member in his biography and all of his posts were visible to the public....

Yesterday, the editorial board of PennLive/Patriot-News declared that the Supreme Court had closed off discussion of same-sex marriage permanently on their pages. Announcing that “these unions are now the law of the land” after the Obergefell decision, any written opposition to SSM would be morally equivalent to “publish[ing] those that are racist, sexist or anti-Semitic.” After insulting a large portion of his readership by calling them bigots, editor John Micek attempts to hit reverse this morning with an apology. Only first, Micek wants to say how truly wonderful he felt about Obergefell by describing its impact on one of his...

The editorial board of PennLive/The Patriot-News in Harrisburg, Pa. is taking a hardcore stance against those who disagree with the Supreme Court ruling to legalize gay marriage. “As a result of Friday’s ruling, PennLive/The Patriot-News will no longer accept, nor will it print, op-Eds and letters to the editor in opposition to same-sex marriage,” they declared. After receiving strong pushback, the newspaper’s editorial board, which is overseen by Editorial Page Editor John Micek, quickly revised its policy. Freedom of speech will be allowed — but only for a “limited” period of time. Micek explained on Twitter: “Clarification: We will not...
