Ziff Davis, the tech/gaming media company that recently exited Chapter 11 bankruptcy, is now taking the brave but inevitable step of closing down the print version of PCMag to focus its energy on its growing PCMag online network of sites, led by flagship PCmag.com. The magazine, which was started in 1982, has a storied history, but its print base eroded over the years as its core brand of journalism--news you can use while shopping for computers--moved online. It cut back from bi-weekly to monthly earlier this year. PCMag, which literally invented the idea of comparative hardware and software reviews, at...

In PC Magazine's 20th annual "Reader Satisfaction Survey," over 16,000 readers told them who's tops in tech support: Apple. Again. "For almost 20 years PC Magazine has asked our readers to rank the vendors they use, and this year is no exception," Eric Griffith reports for PC Magazine. "We received detailed information from users of 20,690 PCs, both desktop and notebook," Griffith reports. "The average overall score for Windows-based desktop PC makers is 7.8 out of 10, the same as last year's. That's down from 7.9 in 2005," Griffith reports. "Of course, no Windows machine comes close to Apple's 9.1...

"The similarities are almost eerie. This year, readers gave us the lowdown on over 13,000 desktop PCs—enough data to rate eight of the country's leading brands. And the final tally looks an awful lot like last year's survey results," Cade Metz reports for PC Magazine on "The 19th Annual Reader Satisfaction Survey." Metz reports, "This year, you diehard PC Mag readers detailed your experiences with nearly 20,000 PCs (notebooks and desktops) and more than 6,500 printers (from mono lasers to color ink jet all-in-ones). And what you say about the leading manufacturers isn't always what we'd expect. No big...
  • PC Magazine Writer says Killian memos are for real! Cites Liberal Blog Daily Kos!

In an effort to discredit the work Charles at LGF has done investigating the Rathergate forgerys PC Magazine has published an article void of any substance or journalistic ethics (if there is such a thing). The author of the article tries to prove that the memos were in fact typed on a IBM Selectric Composer completely ignoring the fact that the typography in the memos was kerned. The author also give graphical examples that are purposely small in order to deceive (when the two are placed on top of each other they DO NOT LINE UP). In a finally act...
