May 26, 2019 America, I Gave My Best to You – A Reflection on the Virtue of Patriotism Msgr. Charles Pope Love of one’s country, patriotism, is related to the fourth commandment. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, It is the duty of citizens to contribute to the good of society in a spirit of truth, justice, solidarity and freedom. The love and service of one’s country follow from the duty of gratitude and belong to the order of charity (CCC #2239). Much of this is reflected in a beautiful song written for the Ken Burns series “The War.”...

Charlies Daniels in Iraq in 2016. (Charlie Daniels Band Photo) In my youth, the holiday we celebrate this weekend was known as Decoration Day, which started in 1861 when a bouquet was placed on a Civil War veteran’s grave and continued as America paid homage and tribute to the men and women who paid the ultimate price in defense of America by “decorating” or placing flowers on the graves of fallen heroes. The name was changed to Memorial Day and became a federal holiday in 1971. America has lost over one million in our combined wars, and, by whatever...

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Prosecutors cannot use secretly recorded video allegedly showing New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft engaging in massage parlor sex, a judge ruled Monday, striking a serious blow to their case against him and others charged with soliciting prostitutes at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa. In his 10-page ruling, Judge Leonard Hanser wrote that Jupiter police detectives and the judge who issued the search warrant allowing the secret installation of cameras at the spa did not do enough to minimize the invasion of privacy of customers who only received legal massages. Hanser also ruled...

The sun never set on the British Empire. It was the largest empire in world history. Out of nearly 200 countries in the world, only 22 were never controlled, invaded or attacked by Britain. In April of 1775, the British Royal Military Governor of Massachusetts, General Thomas Gage, sent 800 British Army Regulars, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith, on a preemptive raid to seize guns from American patriots at Lexington and Concord. George Mason of Virginia stated: "To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them." Noah Webster wrote in An Examination...

In the southeasternmost pocket of the US state of New Mexico, with El Paso, Texas, to the east and Mexico a stone's throw south, there is a small camp: a few tents and a weathered trailer. It is home to the half dozen or so members of the United Constitutional Patriots (UCP) -- a small but well-armed militia dipping their toes into the US border vigilante movement.(snip)

The worst fears of our Founding Fathers have become reality. Two things the founders were unable to protect our great republic from were the evil machinations of corrupt men and an inbred craven citizenry. Thus, both of these illegitimate vagrancies have led America to the very precipice of destruction vis-a-vis the satanic transmogrification of government – a precipice, I might add, President Trump for the moment has spared us from going over. During our Revolutionary War, only 17 percent of the people were supportive of the fight for independence from England. But those 17 percent carried the day until the...

Chris Evans, Avenger and overall number one Chris, may have to snap his finger and turn his Tom Brady fandom into dust if the superstar quarterback continues to support President Donald Trump. The revelation came in a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter, pegged to the upcoming Avengers: Endgame which is projected to make roughly a bajillion dollars at the box office this summer. When asked if he would play Brady in a biopic, Evans, who has been vocal about his love of the Patriots, said: "I don't know," he says. "I really hope he's not a Trump supporter. I'm...

You can bet there is at least one prominent politician or celebrity who won’t be invited to the owner’s box atop Gillette Stadium on opening day for the New England Patriots in September. That would be U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, a Democrat, who is running for president, especially after she made that crack about Robert Kraft at the annual iconoclastic Gridiron Club dinner in Washington the other night. Promising to be brief before a room full of reporters, Klobuchar opened by saying her remarks would be “shorter than a Robert Kraft visit to the Orchids day spa.”

Do blame me, I’m from Massachusetts. The commonwealth ranks as the most intolerant state in the U.S. Don’t blame me too much, though. I live in Worcester County, tied for the most tolerant county in Massachusetts. Sure, nationwide it’s in the 99th percentile, “which means,” according to the PredictWise survey, “that 1 out of every 100 counties is more prejudiced against the political ‘other.’” But at least I don’t live in Suffolk (home to the Boston Globe), Middlesex (home to Harvard and MIT), or the six other Bay State counties that rank in the 100th percentile. You see, my county,...

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is a wanted man -- cops say they've issued a warrant for his arrest as part of a recent prostitution, human trafficking sting operation in Jupiter, Florida. Cops say 77-year-old Kraft will be charged with soliciting another to commit prostitution. Officials say Kraft is accused of soliciting a prostitute on at least 2 separate occasions roughly "a month ago." Cops say they have obtained evidence from body cam video and surveillance that has been conducted over the last several months. Officials say Kraft was driven to the spa by a chauffeur. The average cost...

In his State of the Union address, President Trump once again made a strong case for border security and immigration reform, declaring it our “moral duty” to protect the lives of our citizens, while emphasizing the importance of legal immigration. The President said: “Legal immigrants enrich our nation and strengthen our society in countless ways. I want people to come into our country, in the largest numbers ever, but they have to come in legally.” The American people agree. According to a CBS News poll, seventy-two percent of speech-watchers “approved of President Trump’s ideas for immigration.” In other words, they...

BOSTON —Six-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady spoke about how his wife Gisele Bundchen has used some unusual ways to keep luck on her husband's side.... "I've learned a lot from my wife over the years," Brady said while laying down in a barber's chair. "She's about the power of intention, believing that things are really going to happen." Brady said Bundchen put together a little altar for him that he could bring with pictures of his kids.... I have these little special stones, healing stones, protection stones and she has me wear a necklace, take these drops she makes,...

div class="article_body top mrf-hidden">Call me old-fashioned for enjoying unapologetic patriotism: honoring our troops, our flag, and our country. Leftists will call me a stupid black man suffering from Stockholm syndrome for loving my country. They've done it to others. But then there was rhythm and blues superstar Gladys Knight, the empress of soul, and her stellar performance of our national anthem at Super Bowl 2019. It brought tears to my eyes. I salute Ms. Knight for courageously rejecting pressure from leftists to boycott the event. She went one better than that because she gave it her all. The Los Angeles Rams, meanwhile, said they might skip visiting the White House if they were to win the Super...

The Super Bowl champion Patriots are apparently too politically combustible for Elizabeth Warren to touch. Hours after the Pats’ 13-3 victory over the Rams on Sunday, the Bay State senator’s Twitter accounts were silent on the team’s achievement, even while other Massachusetts pols were quick to jump on the bandwagon. It’s no coincidence that the Cambridge Democrat’s lack of love for the home team comes as she’s gearing up to officially announce her presidential campaign this weekend, when she kicks off a seven-state tour. Of course, the Pats are universally hated outside New England, especially on the left. Warren and...

The CBS broadcast game out of Atlanta was seen by a total audience of 100.7 million, according to CBS Sports. That number comes from when you add up everyone who watched on CBS the network, CBS Interactive, NFL digital properties, Verizon Media mobile properties, ESPN Deportes television and other digital properties. Besides being a very unique bundling spin on Super Bowl numbers that previous broadcasters haven’t shamelessly taken, that’s the first time the NFL’s big game on a network as fallen beneath 100 million viewers since 2009 when the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 in Super Bowl XLIII....
