For months that organization has tilted heavily toward promoting Barack Obama for president, thereby violating traditional journalistic tenets. According to a recent study by the Media Research Center, "NBC Nightly News" has the most lopsided pro-Obama coverage among national TV news operations. Scarborough ultimately accused Shuster and his MSNBC colleagues of being Democrats, their independent political registrations notwithstanding. A news segment about Iraqi President al-Maliki's call for the withdrawal of US troops touched off the skirmish. Shuster snidely suggested to Joe that "your party, the Republican party" mocks those who call for withdrawal. All hell ensued. A new Sacred Heart University national poll found 64.9% of Americans say the purported national media "love affair" with US Senator Barack Obama is very (30.5%) or somewhat real (34.4%). Another 26.5% suggested the love affair was somewhat unreal (8.5%) or not at all real (18.0%). Others, 8.6%, were unsure. McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis asked Sunday for a meeting with Steve Capus, the president of NBC News, to protest what the campaign called signs that the network is "abandoning non-partisan coverage of the Presidential race."
