The massive parade through the heart of Beijing commemorated Japan's World War defeat seven decades ago. But the event also underlined President Xi Jinping's determination to make China the pre-eminent Asian power. Although Xi said the 2.3-million-member People's Liberation Army would be cut back to about 2 million, it will still remain the world's largest standing military and the reduction comes at a time when growing technological capabilities reduce the need for large numbers of troops. ... Of special interest was the appearance of the DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile, potentially capable of sinking a US Nimitz-class aircraft carrier in a...

Via the Examiner, count me in with John Nolte and Sean Davis in wondering why this grand humiliation is being treated as a Hillary scandal instead of a media scandal. Clinton advance aides create a rope line for the press, moving with the candidate pic.twitter.com/9S7CpVt7x4— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) July 4, 2015 Davis: It was a truly embarrassing spectacle, but not for Hillary Clinton. It was embarrassing for the press, because they willingly allow this nonsense to keep happening. It almost appears as though America’s political media are suffering from something approaching Battered Reporter Syndrome: yeah, she tied us up, but...

Hillary's wrangling of the reporters: Clinton uses two aides and a rope to lasso journalists away from her on Fourth of July parade As Hillary Clinton walked freely down a New Hampshire road, she shook hands and greeted residents with a smile. But the members of the press accompanying her were a bit more restricted in their movements - as they were guided through the streets with a rope. The former Secretary of State's campaign staff kept reporters, cameramen and photographers at arm's length as she joined a July 4 parade in Gorham - fueling speculation she is trying to...

The Islamic State social networking site has a photo showing a child holding a severed head amid a gathering of other children, which was tweeted and went viral with an attached phrase that said “This is how the cubs of the Caliphate are raised up”, boasting of this heinous act. It should be noted that it is not the first time that such boast is made in which the heads of victims are being carried by children. An Australian Muslim child held in his hand the heads of severed Syrian troops. The head of the Shariah judge of the General...

Russia's ministry of defence has unveiled a new array of war machines that it said would revolutionise the country's army and put it in a position to outclass Western rivals for the first time since the Cold War. Photographs released on Tuesday show the T-14 Armata tank, a semi-robotic replacement for Russia's current T-90, and its sibling armoured personnel carriers, fighting vehicles and self-propelled artillery models which will take pride of place at Saturday's Victory Day parade on Red Square. In earlier photographs released last month the turret was covered with fabric and only the chassis was visible. The Armata...

Naval Forces from 10 NATO countries and Sweden have launched a massive anti-submarine exercise in the Norwegian Sea. The two-week exercise, dubbed Dynamic Mongoose, brings together thousands of NATO troops, and dozens of vessels, including submarines, that will practice hunting, attacking and avoiding detection, according to news reports. This year's annual exercise comes amid rising concerns by NATO that Russia could employ the same tactics in the three Baltic states — Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia — that it used in Ukraine. The three small countries rely on the Nordic countries for protection.

One of the most outrageous – and prominent -- homosexual activist groups in the state was given permission at the last minute to march in the Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Later the parade organizer said he didn’t know they were a “gay” group when he let them in. This preposterous alibi has only served to outrage faithful Catholics even more. On Friday, March 13 (two days before the parade) the Boston media erupted with the story that a second homosexual group, Boston Pride, would be marching. Unlike OutVets, the other homosexual group given permission back in December, Boston Pride...

In his classic work entitled "Trojan Horse in the City of God," Dr. Dietrich von Hildebrand wrote that, "Incessantly we hear today the self-satisfied slogan, 'Man has finally come of age.' Yet there are so many features of the present epoch - the dethronement of truth by historical relativism, the fetishization of science, the devastation of our lives as a result of the laboratory view, and many others - that make it more than doubtful that modern man has really and truly come of age. There is, moreover, something inherently self-deceptive in the very idea. It is a characteristic symptom...

NEWARK, New Jersey, Apr. 4, 01 (CWNews.com/LSN.ca) - Father Peter West, a staff member at the Priests for Life group in New Jersey, was recently physically thrown out of a Catholic school hall while a pro-abortion politician was being honored inside. While not a Priests for Life-sponsored event, Father West and a group of 15 pro-lifers protested the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Newark on Sunday, March 18. Their complaint was that pro-abortion politician Jim McGreevey, the Democrat candidate for governor, was appointed grand marshal of the parade. Father West noted that much of the parade and events afterward...

In Boston and New York, persons with same-sex inclinations representing gay activist groups are marching openly for the first time in Saint Patrick’s Day parades after years of lobbying and court battles. In Boston, two LGBT groups have been invited to participate in the parade “honoring” Saint Patrick – Out Vets and Boston Pride. In New York, Out@NBC-Universal will be allowed to march in the parade for the first time. These groups reject Catholic teaching on the immorality of homosexual acts and advocate for same-sex “marriage.” The Church is on the defensive, and Church leaders are concerned about appearing intolerant. Of course,...
