  • A Wrinkle in Time Review: Disney's Latest Is a Colossal Disappointment

Ava DuVernay's adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time is a colossal disappointment. The classic science fiction novel by Madeleine L'Engle has been turned into a sappy melodrama; utterly devoid of mystery or wonder. DuVernay's approach to the story is to emphasize its outcast element. The result is a fire hose of gushing positive reinforcement for the bullied, angst ridden protagonist. It reminded me of Al Franken's famous SNL skit, "Daily Affirmations with Stuart Smalley"; where he sits in front of a mirror saying, "You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like me". A Wrinkle in Time is...

Today’s Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends) And she’ll keep saying that so she can continue to use her gig on 60 Minutes as a campaign platform – Oprah Winfrey says she’s “definitely not” running for president. Better headline: Crazy Person Says Everyone Who Disagrees With Her is Crazy. – Rose McGowan says Trump voters are victims of “Cult brainwashing.” Now that they’ve gotten their virtue signaling on sexual assault out of the way by wearing black to the Golden Globes Awards show and grown tired of using that #MeToo hashtag with all their Tweets, all the depraved mental...

In her latest appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday, Oprah Winfrey opened up about her hefty donation to the March for Our Lives movement and responded to the president’s "hate tweet" against her. Following the tragic deadly school shooting in Parkland, Fla. Winfrey announced that she would be following George and Amal Clooney, Jeffrey and Marilyn Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw and making a $500,000 donation to support the March for Our Lives demonstration in which students “will take to the streets of Washington, D.C. to demand that their lives and safety become a priority” and that...

Daytime TV personality Oprah Winfrey's assertion that she will not run for president in 2020 "because if God actually wanted me to run, wouldn't God kinda tell me? And I haven't heard that. I had a lot of wealthy men calling, telling me that they would run my campaign and raise $1 billion for me, but it's just not in my spirit." Joy Behar, a panelist on ABC's The View talk show, called Oprah's remarks "insane. It's the kind of thing we'd expect to come out of Vice-President Pence's mouth. What can she be thinking putting the imaginary words of...

Oprah Winfrey has suggested she will not run in the 2020 US presidential election, saying the job is "not something that interests me". The talk show host has been widely touted as a potential candidate for the Democratic party. But in an interview with a US magazine she gave her strongest suggestion yet that she was not planning to run. "All you need is a mug and some campaign literature and a T-shirt," Winfrey told InStyle Magazine. "I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it’s...

Olivia Munn may be a celebrity in her own right, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t get starstruck. The 37-year-old Newsroom actress walked the red carpet at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards Sunday, gushing to E! News during their pre-show about the time she met Oprah Winfrey. It all went down in the bathroom at the Soho House. “She was coming out of the stall,” Munn recalled of the 63-year-old talk show host. “At the Soho House, there’s a window and not mirrors. And I see her in the reflection so I’m washing my hands not saying anything.”

Oprah running for president may sound like a good idea to some, but Americans aren’t buying it. A new Morning Consult/Politico poll found that just 24 percent of the nearly 2,000 registered voters surveyed actually want her to compete for the White House in 2020. Fifty-nine percent think she shouldn’t run — and 17 percent said they weren’t sure or had no opinion on the matter. “If you were watching cable news the Monday after the Golden Globes, you would have thought the numbers would say 99 percent of Americans want her to run,” explained Robert Thompson, director of the...

OPRAH WINFREY'S SPEECH at the Golden Globes last Sunday set off a gusher of giddy speculation that the much-loved TV host could be a Democratic contender for president in 2020, and if the idea of electing to the White House a celebrity billionaire with no political experience or public-policy expertise might have seemed like crazy talk not all that long ago — well, after the 2016 election cycle, who would be so foolhardy as to rule out Oprah's chances? With the next election nearly three years away, it's hard to believe that any sensible American — a category that excludes...

Two new polls show President Donald Trump’s rising support among black voters, highlighting his political gains from pushing employers to hire Americans instead of lower-wage migrants. The growing support from blacks — despite furious Democratic claims of racism — could become a shocking political validation in November when Trump will face millions of upper-income Democratic voters who are angry at his “Buy American, Hire American” policies. Among black men, Trump’s “2017 average approval rating significantly exceeds his 2016 vote share,” admitted a January 11 article in the Atlantic by author Ronald Brownstein. “23 percent of black men approved of Trump’s...

It is an honor to be here tonight as the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award. As surely almost everyone here well knows, DeMille’s last—and his most successful—film was The Ten Commandments. This 1956 epic is a motion picture classic and one of the most popular films of all time. In the “opening card,” the words of DeMille himself read, “Our modern world defined God as a 'religious complex' and laughed at the Ten Commandments as OLD FASHIONED. Then, through the laughter, came the shattering thunder of the World War. And now a blood drenched, bitter world – no...

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which hosts the Golden Globes, may have provided the rocket fuel for Oprah Winfrey for President in 2020. Her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award struck the perfect pose for the Hollywood establishment. It has seen itself as the uninterrupted social conscience of America for as long as it has made motion pictures. That's ridiculous. The pattern of sexual harassment allegations, and even rape allegations, uncovered by the media should overturn the entire concept of Hollywood lecturing anyone on the morality of any subject. Winfrey drew rave reviews in the press for lauding...

Seal has lashed out at Oprah Winfrey following her inspirational Golden Globes speech, claiming she knew about the rumors surrounding Harvey Weinstein but did nothing. The talk show queen's widely-applauded speech on Sunday night focused on the plight of sexually abused women and the 'MeToo' movement. But the the 'Kiss From A Rose' singer accused the media maven of being an example of 'sanctimonious Hollywood'. He took to Instagram Wednesday, sharing a shot of Oprah with the disgraced producer at two events with a meme that read: 'When you have been part of the problem for decades... but suddenly they...
