ROSELAWN, Ohio – New Prospect Baptist Church is home to one of the largest black congregations in Cincinnati. On any weekend there you'll find weddings, funerals, and three Sunday services. Not exactly a place you think you'd find 179 women firing .22-caliber handguns in the church basement. But that's exactly what happened on Feb. 8, when the church opened its doors to what state officials believe is one of the largest women-only, concealed carry gun certification classes held in the state of Ohio.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday threw out a challenge to Republican-drawn congressional districts in Ohio that Democrats said were drawn to unlawfully diminish their political clout, a move that follows a major ruling by the justices in June that foreclosed such lawsuits. The court’s action in the case involving a practice known as partisan gerrymandering means that 16 U.S. House of Representatives districts will no longer be reconfigured, as a three-judge panel had ordered in May. Ohio Democrats filed a lawsuit Friday attempting to stop Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s plan to remove more than 200,000 voters from registration rolls next week for sitting out too many elections. No doubt whatever crazy the Democrats nominate, that candidate will win the deep blue enclaves of California and New York, and may even be able to pull off a majority of votes again (though that is looking less and less likely).

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A proposed Ohio constitutional amendment to award the state’s presidential electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote has cleared an initial hurdle toward making the statewide ballot this November. A summary of the proposed amendment was certified by Attorney General Dave Yost on Monday as a “fair and truthful statement of the proposed law,” though Yost didn’t weigh in on whether he supported or opposed the measure.

Sherrod Brown of Ohio said Thursday that he will not run for president in 2020, a decision that comes after months of preparations for the Democratic primaries and just days after he appeared to be leaning toward a launch later this month.
