34-year-old woman posed as a teenager to enroll as sophomore at a small private high school in East Texas, officials said Wednesday. Longview police said Charity Johnson was arrested early Tuesday morning after telling officers she was "Charite Stevens" and was born in November 1997. Police had been called to an apartment when the person Johnson was staying with said she no longer wanted her living there. Police gave Johnson a trespass warning. Democrat Sean Eldridge’s campaign raised a little over $520,000 in the first quarter of this year. Nearly half came from the candidate himself. Eldridge, the husband of New Republic editor and Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, pitched in $250,000, according to a campaign finance report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday. That contribution, made in one lump payment on March 31, brings Eldridge’s self-financing total to $965,000. Eldridge is running for a competitive House seat in New York’s Hudson Valley, in a district he has called home for less than two years.

A man who smuggled Asian songbirds into the country by hiding them under his pants during a flight from Vietnam to Los Angeles was sentenced Monday to four months in prison. Sony Dong, 46, of Garden Grove, was also ordered to pay $4,000 in restitution to federal authorities who are caring for the birds.
