Next year alone, the city will set aside for pensions more than $8 billion, or 11 percent of the budget. Twelve states filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration on Friday seeking to block an Environmental Protection Agency proposal to regulate coal-fired power plants in an effort to stem climate change. The George Washington Bridge spanning New York and New Jersey is getting a fence to help curb suicides as the number of deaths there approaches record levels. A Puerto Rican community group received a special honor in East Harlem this past weekend. The corner of 111th Street and Lexington Avenue has been renamed "Young Lords Way." Young Lords was founded in the 1960s to organize and educate young Latinos.
