Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett held up a blank notepad when Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) asked her to show the public the notes she’s been using to answer the numerous questions spat at her during day two of the confirmation hearings. “Most of us have multiple notebooks and notes and books, things like that in front of us,” said Sen. Cornyn (video below). “Can you hold up what you’ve been referring to in answering our questions?”

A Georgia man caught urinating at a Metro Gold Line station in Pasadena Wednesday was carrying a cache of weapons, including a loaded AR-15-type rifle, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Christopher Goodine, 28, was relieving himself at the Sierra Madre Villa station, deputies said. Besides the rifle, he had a handgun, a machete, a rope, a notebook with odd writing in it, a suppressor and two loaded high-capacity magazines and additional rounds of ammunition inside a duffel bag. I've received my Lotus Solstice-15 with upgraded 1080p display. These are built in the USA by a small company in Orlanda called LotusPC. I negotiated a fair deal and received one-on-one help from the owner of the company. He built the machine to our exact specifications, including the absence of an installed OS (for which we were not charged). This PC is of high-quality, on the order of a Panasonic laptop, in the $800-$1000 range. It's extremely solidly built with keypresses not moving the adjacent keys, has a keypad, and even the base i5 CPU screams. Running Ubuntu 12.10.

I need some computer advice. I have 4 computers at home. Two laptops and two desktops. One laptop has Windows 7 and is used by my wife for genealogy research and net surfing. Nokia has a phone that has a clear screen that was all for looks. I don’t care for being able to see through a screen myself; the feature is more of a gimmick to me. Just saw my first ad fior a sub $500 full fledged 15" screen notebook today....Just commenting, on the evolution in pricing. When Win 7 first came out, you couldn't find a notebook with it for under $700. I guess the OEMs have finally cleared out most of their back stock of Vista licenses, and PCs that can't handle Win 7. I'll expect we'll be seeing better deals on laptops with Win 7 coming out soon. If for no other reason than to compete better with iPad prices. Why buy crippleware when the full real deal costs the same or less?

I need a bit of advice. I do not own a notebook/laptop computer, this will be my first purchase. Offered to me NEW: a Toshiba Satellite A135-S2326. Windows Vista Basic (I know, I know...bugs/monster memory eater), 80gb hard drive, 512M of RAM. 15.4" screen. The price after rebates: $350. I might eventually upgrade the RAM to 1 or 2GB. This is going to be used primarily for a child being homeschooled, maybe to watch DVDs during travel, light internet usage in airports, etc. Nothing massive. Is $350 a good price?

A bit of an old story is coming to the surface as Panasonic is waving around pictures of a CF-M34 ToughBook which a soldier in the US 82nd Airborne division took with him into Northern Iraq, only to have some inconsiderate... person... put a bullet into it. Okay, I want to get some people's opinions. Who do you think is the best seller of laptop batteries out there? I'm looking to get a new battery for my wife's Dell Inspiron 8200 and I have no problem finding batteries on the net that will work, but who would you go with in terms of reliability, honesty, price, return policy, etc?

I am planning to buy my first Windows-based notebook computer. Budget in the $1200 range. There are lots of choices and a lot of confusing info out there about desirable specs/components. Would greatly appreciate recommendations from FReepers knowledgeable about computers. Will be for home interent use, running Photoshop, MS Office Suite, taking work home from the office from time-to-time, and similar tasks. Need something sturdy, reliable and with a bright, sharp display. Your recommendations on specs to equip it with, within my price range, are also much needed. Thanks.

I have a sudden need for a decent notebook PC. This will serve as my "temporary desktop computer" at a client's office where I will need to be working for the next several weeks. I want a lot of "bang-for-the-buck," including sufficient memory, screen size, etc., to do some pretty heavy computing (running engineering software including CAD, etc.) I'd like some recommendations. I haven't been keeping up with the notebook market AT ALL. Thanks in advance.
