  • EXCLUSIVE: Kellyanne Conway May Be The Next Communications Director

    07/31/2017 5:07:34 PM PDT · by springwater13 · 110 replies
There is chatter within the White House that Kellyanne Conway is being looked at as the next communications director, a source within the White House told The Daily Caller. Anthony Scaramucci was ousted Monday as communications director following a week of publicly feuding with former chief of staff Reince Priebus. Scaramucci called Priebus a “paranoid schizophrenic” in an interview President Trump viewed as inappropriate, according to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Card. Robert Sarah, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, recently had an article in the French magazine La Nef; in it, he discusses among other things the mutual enrichment of the two Forms of the Roman Rite which Pope Benedict proposed in the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum. The text has not yet been made available on their website, but someone provided Fr Zuhlsdorf with an English translation, which he reads (with an introduction) in a podcast posted here. Yesterday, the Catholic Herald published a commentary on the La Nef article by Fr Raymond de Souza, “Cardinal Sarah’s challenge to...

  • Should Star Trek Sequels Return to the Prime Timeline?

Star Trek has remained a ship somewhat adrift, especially since the prequel series Star Trek: Enterprise was canceled before its fifth season. When J.J. Abrams brought his kinetic, alternative timeline to life in 2009, the long-running saga received a shot in the arm. Since then, the franchise, now split between Paramount (film) and CBS (small screen), continues to seek out for the right vehicle to truly set the stars ablaze in the 21st century. Star Trek Into Darkness and Beyond were both exciting and generally well-received entries but fell victim to diminishing returns at the box office when Beyond’s meager...
  • Puerto Rico deserves its star: Alaskans should join...in supporting statehood

It has been nearly 58 years since the last star was added to the U.S. flag when Hawaii joined the union in August 1959. In a referendum 10 days ago, Puerto Rico residents voted to become the next. The matter isn’t up to residents alone, of course — Congress and the president would have to sign off on the admission of a new state, and there are many political hurdles that stand in between America’s closest possession and statehood. But those obstacles existed for Alaska, too, and we had allies who helped us gain entry to the U.S. As Puerto...

WASHINGTON - Exxon Mobil Corp. and other large oil companies are backing a carbon tax proposal put forward earlier this year by a group of former Republican leaders including James A. Baker III, the former secretary of state and a Houston attorney. The Climate Leadership Coalition, a group that includes Baker, former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, and former Secretary of State George Shultz, announced a list of "founding members" Tuesday that includes Exxon Mobil, BP, Shell, Total, General Motors and Johnson & Johnson. "We support @TheCLCouncil as a founding member and are working to support its policy development process," Exxon...

Three episodes in, Megyn Kelly's Sunday Night is suffering from no shortage of attention. The former Fox News personality's transition to NBC host got especially bumpy this past week with the show's heavily-dissected decision to interview controversial radio host and Infowars entrepreneur Alex Jones. The episode finally aired Sunday, averaging 3.5 million viewers, a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49 and a 0.7 rating among adults 25-54. By all measures, that's virtually the same showing Kelly got with final adjustments during week two — again trailing a 60 Minutes repeat. Audio of the interview leaked prior to the telecast when Jones...
  • Adam Schiff Admits There’s No ‘Proof’ Of Trump-Russia Collusion

The 11-month-old investigation into whether President Trump or members of his campaign colluded with Russians has still not turned up any evidence that’s strong enough to put before a jury. That’s according to California Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, which is overseeing one of the parallel investigations into whether members of the Trump campaign coordinated with the Kremlin to influence the outcome of the election. “I’m not prepared to say that there’s proof you could take to a jury,” Schiff told ABC News’ Martha Raddatz on Sunday when asked if he’s seen proof of...

The sky over the turbulent Pacific was pitch-black earlier this month when a Minuteman III missile blasted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base on a column of fire that illuminated the California coastline for miles. The unarmed missile thundered past the outer reaches of the atmosphere, tracing a fiery arc around the globe before plunging into a lagoon at Kwajalein Atoll in the South Pacific, 4,200 miles away.
  • The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's' Turns 50: Is It The Best Album Ever?

The Best Album of All Time. That’s one hell of a claim. Even if The Beatles’ eighth studio album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band -- released 50 years ago, May 26, 1967, in the U.K. -- is the musically ground-breaking, hyper influential career high-water mark from The Best Band of All Time, those can still sound like fighting words. But there’s no hyperbole here. There’s widespread consensus: Sgt. Pepper’s has topped its fair share of Greatest Albums of All Time lists

As a member of the Arctic Council, the United States has signed onto two agreements that include efforts to protect the Arctic from climate change, linking it to human activity and calling on global efforts to reduce its effects, including enforcement of the Paris Agreement. “The Arctic Council, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, has proven to be an indispensable forum in which we can pursue cooperation,” Tillerson said in remarks to the council. “I want to affirm that the United States will continue to be an active member in this council.”

President Trump on Tuesday called for a "good shutdown" in September to fix the "mess” in government. "The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there! We … either elect more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%. Our country needs a good "shutdown" in September to fix mess!" he wrote in a series of tweets.

It's nothing big but she just feels bad because she doesn't know that many locals. If you have a Facebook account please go to the link and like her photo. She probably still won't win but at least she'll know Freepers support their own. Please Like This Picture

Would the concept St. Jude Hospital uses for their funding work for the entire country? They are funded 75% by private donations (see link). There are around 6,000 hospitals (google search) in the U.S. Is it possible they could be funded through private donations (super rich people along with average Joes)? I am not good with financial realities (except my own checkbook), so I'm throwing this idea out here to see if possible. FReepers are smart people. There are some free clinics already in the U.S. which are functioning through donations. Maybe the entire healthcare system could exist through private...

I'm a former CNN correspondent, and I could answer this question in much greater detail than you'd ever want to read, but I'll give you the short answer. CNN under Ted Turner (no journalist he, but he understood what he wanted CNN to be and what it needed to be) was a place where, when you first walked in the door, you were told "there are no stars here, only news." And the staff believed that. For me, after wandering in the wilderness of local TV news for years, it was a great feeling to join a group of folks...

Michelle Obama fed her husband's feud with Donald Trump on Friday as she gave a gloomy description of the hopeless climate his election win has created. The First Lady used her final interview in the White House to tell Oprah Winfrey that a 'grown up' should be in charge of the country. Looking forward to president-elect Trump's looming inauguration, she said even though hope was lost, it was necessary to move on. 'Now we're feeling what not having hope feels like. Hope is necessary,' she said in her first direct response to the November 9 election result. Mrs Obama's remarks...
