Sitting here at Met life Stadium for NY Jets season opener. Video tape of Obama giving a lecture on 9-11. He was soundly booed when he was announced on the screen. I'd say 9 out of 10 people loudly booed. After booing I invoked my constitutional right and sat down while he spoke despite the announcer asking everyone to stand.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters raised his fist through the national anthem before Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium, as the team interlocked their arms. The Chiefs won't be alone in their demonstration during the Star Spangled Banner on Sunday. The Seattle Seahawks have said they also plan to stand and interlock arms. Their opponent in the game, the Miami Dolphins, plan to take another approach. Dolphins running back Arian Foster told ESPN's Bob Holtzman that he plans to take a knee and raise his fist during the national anthem. He...

The National Football League is bracing for possible widespread player demonstrations during the national anthem at Sunday’s opening games, in what would mark a high-profile escalation of a protest movement over concerns of racial injustice in America. The games fall on the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, which the NFL plans to commemorate with appearances by military personnel, first responders and two U.S. presidents. That backdrop could further animate a fierce national debate set off last month by quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the anthem. Officials with the NFL Players Association, who have been...

The Seahawks have announced their plans for Sunday’s pregame ceremony. According to receiver Doug Baldwin, they will stand together during the national anthem. They will do so with their arms interlocked. “We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds, and as a team we have decided to stand and interlock arms in unity,” Baldwin says in the 42-second video posted at his Twitter page. “We honor those who have fought for the freedom we cherish, and we stand to ensure the riches of freedom and the security of justice for all people. Progress can and will be made...

  • NFL To Fine Players That Wear 9/11 Cleats Sunday

Two police union leaders are so outraged that the NFL denied Titan Avery Williamson wearing a patriotic pair of cleats honoring those who died on 9/11, that they promised to pay his fine if he wears them in Sunday’s game anyway. Williamson had hoped to wear a pair of specially-designed cleats at his team’s home opener Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, but he backed off when a league rep vowed to fine him for violating the league’s uniform code. The left cleat says 9-11-01, with the 11 in the outline of the...

Avery Williamson, a starting linebacker for the Tennessee team, hoped to wear a pair of specially-designed cleats at his team’s home opener Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, but he backed off when a league rep vowed to fine him for violating the league’s uniform code. The left cleat says 9-11-01, with the 11 in the outline of the Twin Towers, while the right one says Never Forget. “I don’t want to draw negative attention, so I’m just going to focus on playing the game,” Williamson told the Tennessean newspaper, on Friday. MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins held a players-only meeting Friday to discuss a possible demonstration against racial inequality during the national anthem in their season opener. Sunday marks 15 years since the September 11th terror attacks. Families will mourn lost loved ones. Americans across the country will pause to reflect on one of the most horrific days in our history. But in the NFL, many players say they’re considering using that day to protest. The Seahawks’ roster has a demonstration planned for the national anthem. Dolphin players may also have something in the works, but it appears to be...

Why are people so angry over an NFL player that refused to stand for the National Anthem?    Hundreds of thousands of words have been written on the subject and I won't rehash any of them, but I'd ask you to consider the reason people are outraged and why it matters. Sports fan is a shortened form of the original term, sports fanatic.  Fanatic is defined as a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal (great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective), especially for an extreme religious or political cause.  A religion can be defined as a...

I know this probably wont have any real effect on the NFL players who decide to not stand for the National Anthem, but I would like a list of all players who don't stand. My reason is pretty simple....I don't want any of them on my Fantasy Football team. I sent an email to my league asking them to tell me if any of my players fail to stand so that I can drop them. I realize that this thing is gaining some momentum and some great players may join in. It's easy for some people to say, "punish them",...

The NFL this season has 32 league-wide category sponsors, including new brands in the auto and yogurt categories. Hyundai this season begins a four-year deal with the league. The automaker replaces GM, which had been the NFL’s official auto brand since ’01. Dannon, which began running Super Bowl spots in ’12, begins the first year of its league-wide deal after signing on in July '14. NFL corporate partnership benefits vary from deal to deal, but they typically include category exclusivity, use of league marks for advertising and promotional purposes, event signage, media exposure through radio, print and TV ads ....

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack ever on American soil. Thousands died in the attack, and many thousands more died in wars that resulted from that attack. Solidarity with the dead drives patriotism in this regard. Our flag and our anthem are symbols of the unity that compels us to stand together in affirmation of those murdered lives and in determination to defend ourselves from those who would wantonly kill us. Football also unites us in a way. To be sure, the NFL is a pastime. That is, it is a diversion -- a game that people...

A Letter to my Younger Self by Danny Woodhead Dear 18-year-old Danny, I know it still stings. But if there’s one thing I know about you it’s that when you get knocked down, you don’t stay down for long. Now, as you begin your freshman year of college football, the only thing greater than the disappointment of not getting a scholarship offer to play at Nebraska is your excitement to join your older brother, Ben, and follow in your father’s footsteps at Division II Chadron State College. When one door to college football closed, God pushed another one open. Remember...

So Cam Newton’s brain got pounded multiple times but he didn’t get checked for a concussion until after the game? Don’t worry, the NFL can explain everything (emphasis mine): “There was communication between medical personnel on the Carolina sideline, including the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant, and the two independent certified athletic trainer spotters in the booth. During stoppage in play while on-field officials were in the process of administrating [sic] penalties, the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant and team physician requested video from the spotters and reviewed the play. They concluded there were no indications of a concussion that would require further evaluation...
