On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal’s Laura Meckler and Colleen McCain Nelson broke the news that Hillary Clinton is vetting Elizabeth Warren for the vice presidency — but not vetting Bernie Sanders. In the process, they provided a shortlist of candidates that Clinton is considering: Beyond the Massachusetts senator, other prospective candidates include Labor Secretary Tom Perez; Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro; Sens. Tim Kaine of Virginia, Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Cory Booker of New Jersey; Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and Reps. Xavier Becerra of California and Tim Ryan of Ohio, several Democrats said. Now, this...

Could U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy's rapid political ascent land him on a presidential ticket in November? A report in USA Today Monday listed Murphy as among those who would be interested in the vice presidential spot alongside former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination. A Murphy spokeswoman declined to comment on the report. "Some progressives would also offset a weakness of Clinton — who will be 69 by Election Day — that she can’t compensate for with her résumé: her age. Murphy is 42," reads the story by Heidi M Przybyla, the paper's senior...

Former Attorney General Eric Holder has come out against proposals in Chicago and New Jersey to require fingerprint background checks of drivers for ride-hailing platforms such as Uber and Lyft. Why would President Obama's onetime top lawman come out against regulation that is supposed to protect the riding public? Credit the intersection of two forces. First, Holder's tony corporate law firm, Covington & Burling, represents Uber. Also, as Holder sees it, requiring drivers to submit fingerprints may "have a discriminatory impact on communities of color." I was surprised to read about Holder's opposition, as I have trouble seeing Holder as...

On Tuesday Donald Trump closed the door on the Republican nomination for President by winning all five of the remaining primaries — New Jersey, South Dakota, Montana, New Mexico and California. Trump won the last 16 Republican contests. Trump has 1,536 delegates and counting. Trump may also be the first candidate in the modern era to have funded his campaign by himself during the primary season. Although his results are much more impressive, he only spent a quarter the amount of money as Democrats Clinton and Sanders. He proved to be the real capitalist in the primary while Clinton and...

Trump closed out the primary election season with wins in South Dakota, New Mexico, New Jersey, Montana, and California. While Sen. Bernie Sanders remains actively campaigning for the Democratic nomination against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Trump became the GOP’s presumptive nominee shortly after winning Indiana’s May 3 primary election. The American businessman surpassed 2012 nominee Mitt Romney’s and 2008 nominee John McCain’s primary election vote totals by late in April according to Politico calculations. Previous record holder George W. Bush received just 10.8 million votes in 2000, a number far surpassed by Trump’s over 13 million votes with...

A historic discovery was made underneath a home in Monmouth County when a family discovered remnants of an old boat. The Scanlon family was in the process of getting one of their cottages raised when the discovery was made. The Highlands residents were affected by Superstorm Sandy and were finally able to get the homes raised. Tuesday morning, while crews were working on the home, they found the remains of a boat believed to date back to the 1800s. Eileen Scanlon says that in 2009, she had an inspector look at the property and saw the rudder of the boat....

Former President Bill Clinton told a New Jersey crowd Wednesday that non-college educated whites “need to be brought along to the future.” Mr. Clinton campaigned for his wife in Crandford by tearing into Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s comments on illegal immigration. He then implied that Mr. Trump’s supporters cling to a vision for America that is better left in the past. “We have been told over and over again in this election we ought to build a wall against Mexico, we ought to stop the Muslims from coming in, we want to do all this stuff,” Mr. Clinton said,...

The former secretary of state is competing with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders to win a majority of Puerto Rico's 60 delegates. Clinton began the day 60 delegates shy of the 2,383 she needs to win the Democratic nomination -- with 1,776 pledged delegates and another 547 superdelegates. Sanders, meanwhile, started Sunday with 1,547 delegates total: 1,501 pledged delegates and another 46 superdelegates. Clinton is closing in on a historic nomination as the first female presidential...

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump says if he's elected president, he'd have the top law enforcement official in his administration look into indicting Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton over her email use. So does that mean New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie could be the one to make the decision? During an interview that aired Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation," host John Dickerson noted that Trump has repeatedly said on the campaign trail that Clinton should face jail time over her emails. And if she isn't indicted before then, Dickerson asked, would Trump have his U.S. attorney general prosecute her?

Chaos erupted once again outside a Donald Trump rally, with protesters attacking Trump supporters and burning the American flag. One woman who was yelling back at protesters ended up being pelted with eggs by the protesters. Some are criticizing the San Jose police for letting the rally go on for far too long and grow out of control before they stepped in. On Fox and Friends this morning, Geraldo Rivera said these violent displays are going to hurt the Democrats' chances in November. "The violence is absolutely the worst thing that can possibly happen to the Democrats. Every time you...

This week, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton met with 15 members of the N.J. Black Mayors’ Alliance for Social Justice to discuss issues important to their communities. After the event, the Mayors’ Alliance endorsed Clinton for president. The mayors discussed issues important to them, including the economy. As the nation comes back from the worst downturn since the recession, the elected officials said the poor and disadvantaged have not benefited. In many New Jersey cities, more than a third of minority adults are unemployed, even when the nation is doing well financially. Data from a 2015 U.S. Census study show...

TERROR Life sentences upheld for brothers convicted in terror plot Published June 01, 2016 Associated Press CAMDEN, N.J. – A federal judge has ruled against three immigrant brothers seeking to overturn their life sentences for plotting to kill U.S. soldiers at Fort Dix, New Jersey. U.S. District Judge Robert Kugler ruled that he didn't buy the arguments from Dritan (DRY'-tahn), Eljvir (EL'-veer) and Shain Duka (DOO'-ka) that they were wrongly convicted in 2008 because their lawyers kept them from testifying. Kugler ruled Friday that he found testimony from their defense attorneys at a January hearing more credible. His decision was...

West Long Branch, NJ – Hillary Clinton holds a narrow lead over Donald Trump in an early read of New Jersey registered voters five months before the general election. The Monmouth University Poll finds that neither candidate has solidified support among core constituent groups. With the top of the ticket taking shape for both parties, speculation has turned to a couple of Garden State office holders as potential running mates. The poll finds that one name in particular – the state’s own governor – may actually put New Jersey electoral votes further out of reach for Trump. In a head-to-head...

For some years now I have been endeavoring to instruct my readers on the difference between conservatives and "neo" conservatives. (If you remain confused please read this simple description.)I have Donald Trump to thank for making that distinction quite clear. The emergence of Trump as the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party has sent the neocons into a frenzy. Meanwhile we genuine conservatives consider him a huge improvement over the prior Republican presidential nominee.
