Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) posted "An Open Letter to Trump Supporters" on his official Facebook page that outlined exactly why he will not be supporting Donald Trump this November if he were to be the nominee. He urged conservatives to find a third option to support if Trump were to land the party's nomination.(Emphasis added) My current answer for who I would support in a hypothetical matchup between Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton is: Neither of them. I sincerely hope we select one of the other GOP candidates, but if Donald Trump ends up as the GOP nominee, conservatives will...

Sen. Ben Sasse, a Nebraska Republican, said Sunday that he is unlikely to support real estate developer Donald Trump in a general election. "If Trump becomes the Republican nominee my expectation is that I'll look for some 3rd candidate - a conservative option, a Constitutionalist," Sasse tweeted Sunday night. Sasse, a conservative former university president, has previously been sharply critical of Trump's views, arguing the former reality television star does not embrace the conservative principles of limited government and liberty. Sasse becomes the most prominent congressional Republican to announce plans to deny Trump his support. "Christians - recognizing threats vs...

Rare Earth Salts is one step closer to launching a pilot plant in Beatrice following an announcement this week that it has successfully tested a commercial-size "separation cell." The startup plans to use new techniques to harvest rare earth elements from would-be mining waste from around the world. A pilot program, a smaller-scale plant to demonstrate the feasibility of the process, has been in the works to harvest these rare earth elements. This plant would consist of several "cells" separating the elements. Company officials have been working with a single full-sized cell, and CEO Joseph Brewer said this cell produced...

Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse is one of the best new Senators elected in 2014, and we at RedState were proud to support him in the primaries. After keeping a low profile his first few months in the Senate, the 43 year old freshman has gradually been building a higher profile as a conservative reformer, and has recently started grilling Donald Trump on Twitter. Today, Trump fired back - and Sasse responded in kind, giving The Donald a taste of his own medicine. Sasse started bearing down on Trump on Sunday, beginning by noting - as many elected Republicans have -...

OMAHA, Nebraska, January 18, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – A battle over sex education in Omaha schools roiling since last year is set to come to a head soon, with the district's board of education scheduled to vote this week on proposed new Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE) standards. The new standards are an effort to usurp parents as primary educators of their children, one parents' group says, and with the push for the standards involving Planned Parenthood and other objectionable groups, parents are crying foul. "Our children's souls are at risk," Mark Bonkiewicz of Nebraskans for Founders' Values told LifeSiteNews. "We're not...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: So I just saw Fox News Channel here during the break, and I see a little headline the bottom of the screen: "Hillary Clinton Launching Charm Offensive to Win Over Republican Voters." Well, now, that's not possible. I mean, a charm offensive is not possible. Winning over Republican voters? Hell, anything's possible. You know what she said? She said, "I do not have horns," and everybody's applauding it. "Oh, man, look at Hillary! She's in Omaha. She's in Nebraska. She targeting Republicans. "She's claiming that she's on a charm offensive. She's gonna convert Republicans! She's assuring them...

Neil Stretesky came out the front door shooting when four western Nebraska law enforcement officers pulled up to his house on a dead-end street in Big Springs with arrest warrants. Deuel County Deputy Michael Hutchinson, who never fired his gun, was shot four times, suffering a serious abdomen wound, according to an account provided by Deuel County Attorney Joel Jay. Moments later, 66-year-old Stretesky — who was out of jail on an attempted first-degree murder charge in Colorado — lay mortally wounded, shot by Sheriff Scott DeCoste. Stretesky’s record and reputation were widely known and the reason why four lawmen...

I was repulsed when I saw the front page of last Tuesday’s paper ("Ricketts joins governors calling to halt Syrian refugees," Nov. 16). I then read that Gov. Ricketts has joined a host of other governors asking the administration not to permit Syrian refugees into the United States ("Ricketts joins governors' letter to Obama on Syrian refugees," Nov. 20). A quotation from Ricketts letter said that “Nebraska is a welcoming place for families seeking a home to live, work, and raise a family...†Apparently his words are only true for people of European ethnic descent, like myself. If you are...

In a stinging rebuke to President Barack Obama by Republicans and Democrats, the House ignored a veto threat Thursday and overwhelmingly approved GOP legislation erecting fresh hurdles for Syrian and Iraqi refugees trying to enter the United States. Forty-seven Democrats joined all but two Republicans as the House passed the measure by a veto-proof 289-137 margin, a major setback to the lame duck president on an issue —the Islamic State group and the refugees fleeing it — that shows no signs of easing. The vote exceeded the two-thirds majority required to override a veto, and came despite a rushed, early...

"Slamming the door in their faces would be a betrayal of our values," [Obama] said.Six Republican governors have announced that Syrian refugees won't be allowed to resettle in their states in the wake of last week's terrorist attacks in Paris. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley issued statements Sunday saying that they wanted to prioritize the safety of the residents in their states. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott; Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a GOP presidential candidate; Arkansas Gov. Gov. Asa Hutchinson; and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence joined them on Monday. "Michigan is a welcoming state and we are...

LINCOLN — Finally. It was Nebraska's turn for some late-game heroics. The Huskers stunned undefeated Michigan State and snapped the Spartans' 12-game winning streak Saturday night with an improbable game-winning drive — covering 91 yards in 38 seconds — to earn a 39-38 victory. NU got the ball back without any timeouts trailing by five. And quarterback Tommy Armstrong went to work. He found Jordan Westerkamp for gains of 28 and 33 yards on back-to-back plays.

It was ten stories tall, and wider at the base than the Empire State Building. And nearly a thousand years ago, it was the centerpiece of the continent's largest city north of Mexico. Today, the search to determine how native engineers built Monk's Mound -- North America's biggest prehistoric earthen structure -- has turned up some new and crucial, but very small, clues: the seeds and spores of ancient plants. An aerial view of Monks Mound, the largest prehistoric earthwork in North America. Researchers studying the giant platform mound at the heart of the settlement of Cahokia have studied its...

A brutal beating video has gone viral and now Omaha Police are investigating who's behind the chaos. The video shows dozens of people involved in a knock-down, drag-out fight at the Southside Terrace housing complex 28th and R in South Omaha. The complex is a public, low-income housing property. In the video, a woman is pulled to the ground, kicked in the face and stomach, repeatedly punched, and her attackers pull her hair. Later in the video several men are also attacked. WOWT 6 News spoke with Afiya Madut, a Southside Terrace resident who said fights aren't uncommon at the...

The Pentagon has responded to a globally-released ‘Kill List’, asking law enforcement to give extra protection for military personnel whose personal information was released,News Channel 10 reports. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports the Pentagon spent the weekend notifying the soldiers who appeared on the list, and urged city police departments and military police to increase patrol in the neighborhoods where the targeted live. The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) published the list days ago, a report that contained names, photos, and home addresses of U.S. Armed Forces personnel, causing alarm in cities potentially at high-risk....

Ted Cruz says his hard-line strategy to defund Planned Parenthood and risk a government shutdown is about doing the “right thing” and following through on Republicans' vows to conservative voters. But many of his Republican colleagues say it’s really all about Cruz. Even some of his closest allies from past battles— fellow tried and true tea party Republicans like Sen. Mike Lee of Utah — aren’t exactly jumping to join Cruz’s latest crusade. Same goes for Cruz’s onetime allies-turned-presidential rivals, Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Rand Paul of Kentucky. As the Texas Republican prepares for a potentially decisive month...

BELLEVUE, Neb. —Undercover videos and the outrage that followed could lead to another big political battle in Nebraska; this time over abortion, and it may start with a Bellevue senator's new bill. The video clips claim to show Planned Parenthood discussing the sale of fetal body parts for financial gain. Sen. Tommy Garrett said if federal lawmakers won't de-fund the organization, he's going to stop Planned Parenthood from collecting fetuses before they sell them. The Center for Medical Progress released the footage recently.

“The writing was on the wall,” says Rev. Paul J. Colling, the 54-year-old pastor of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Lexington, Nebraska, who also serves as vicar for Hispanic issues for the Grand Island diocese, 50,000 square miles of Nebraska that extends north to South Dakota and west to Wyoming. He remembers the life-or-death decision faced by the region’s small towns. They could remain virtually 100 percent white, a choice favored by many residents, and lose their few factories to plants in other towns that welcomed low-pay, nonunion workers, a majority of them immigrants. Or the communities could try to avoid...

The sunlight bothered his eyes and the dry air gave him chills, so Troy Williams, 46, closed the living-room window and shut the blackout shades. Outside was prairie, corn and miles of clear Nebraska sky, but increasingly he liked it better here, inside a Section 8 apartment with the TV blaring. He locked the front door even though nobody but family had visited for three weeks. He turned down the volume on a phone that rarely rang. He put on sunglasses, lay on the couch and closed his eyes. His wife, Andrea, sat nearby, playing Candy Crush on her computer...

More than a few Republican graybeards are panicking about how the rise of Donald Trump is pulling at the seams of the GOP’s big tent. However, the Republican establishment itself has played a big role in creating this particular Frankenstein’s monster. In September 2014, I found myself in Lexington, Nebraska, population 10,230. I was at a campaign stop with the soon-to-be-elected junior senator from Nebraska, and it seemed as if voters in this small town wanted to talk about one issue in particular. Just a few weeks earlier—right before school was to start—the federal government had showed up in Lexington...

BISMARCK, N.D. — A federal judge in North Dakota on Thursday blocked a new Obama administration rule that would give the federal government jurisdiction over some state waterways. U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson of North Dakota issued a temporary injunction against a the rule, which gives the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers authority to protect some streams, tributaries and wetlands under the Clean Water Act. The rule was scheduled to take effect Friday. “The risk of irreparable harm to the states is both imminent and likely,” Judge Erickson said in blocking the rule from taking effect....
