NANTICOKE — A 97-year-old woman was killed in an apparently random home-invasion robbery on Thanksgiving night, according to state police. The body of Gertrude Price, was found in her 23 E. Grand St. home by her family Friday morning, Trooper Martin Connors said. No arrests have been made. “I know a lot times we say there is no cause for concern because it doesn’t look random,” Connors said. “This, unfortunately, is exactly the opposite of that. It looks as if this poor lady, 97 years old, lived her whole life and has to leave this world this way.”

NANTICOKE - Former President Bill Clinton argued for re-electing U.S. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski on Tuesday, contending the congressman helped reverse a Republican tide of red ink when he was president and delivered a flood control project that avoided major damage in the Wyoming Valley. "I'm crazy about Paul Kanjorski," Clinton told more than 600 people gathered in the gymnasium at Greater Nanticoke Area High School in the congressman's hometown. In a 38-minute speech, Clinton said Democrats have the nation on the path to recovery, but need more than 21 months to fix an economy that eight years of Republican...

The Department of Transportation is refusing to move forward on an earmark backed by Rep. Paul Kanjorski (Pa.), the rare House Democrat facing a tough reelection this fall. Transportation (DoT) is blocking funds to build a $5.6 million parking garage to the Kanjorski Center, which was constructed to attract economic development in the city of Nanticoke in Kanjorski’s Eastern Pennsylvania district. Kanjorski’s earmark for the project was included in the 2005 transportation bill. DoT contends the garage does not meet federal rules intended to spur the use of public transportation. Those rules allow federal funds for parking garages only if...
