In 1963, President Kennedy spoke to members of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. Kennedy asserted that "what makes editorial cartooning such a wonder" is the ability to "entertain and instruct us ... and ... place in one picture a story and a message and do it with impact and conviction and humor and passion – all that ... makes [editorial cartoonists] the most exceptional commentators on the American scene." According to Randall P. Harrison, "there are a handful of basic techniques which the cartoonist manipulates to create a symbolic world of make-believe." The first process, known as leveling, is...

It all started with a complaint over littering – and ended with two men arrested and the discovery of an arsenal of guns and bomb-making devices by Minneapolis police. Now, local authorities have flagged the arrests for review by the Department of Homeland Security. 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS spoke with the man who called police to the scene. He asked us not to use his name because he doesn't want any more attention than what he's already received. He said he walked by a parked SUV near the intersection of North 44th Avenue and Humboldt Avenue North the evening of May...

Women expelled from streets in central Paris, police unable to restore safety Tweet linkWomen from the Chapelle-Pajol district (not the banlieue, but right in the centre of Paris, close to Gare Du Nord, the Sacré-Coeur, Montmartre and the Moulin Rouge) are no longer visible on its streets and squares, they are absent from its metro stations, and they are no longer welcome in its cafes, bars and restaurants. The district is taken over by groups of men, drug dealers and migrants, who harass or insult every female they encounter. Newspaper Le Parisien reported this week on the structural misogyny...

Spanish authorities have arrested a Muslim cleric — whom the New York Times once praised for his efforts to fight radicalization within Germany’s Islamic community — for alleged ties to the Islamic State. Hesham Shashaa (aka Abu Adam), a 46-year-old Egyptian-Palestinian, was detained near Alicante in southeastern Spain on April 26 on charges of aiding the Islamic State, extolling terrorism and promoting Salafi-jihadism. The Spanish Interior Ministry said that Shashaa had facilitated the travel to Spain of Islamic State jihadists from Syria and Iraq by providing them with money, refuge and fake documents. Most recently, Shashaa had made arrangements for...

“We are still building an Islamic museum and sanctuary,” says the shady developer behind the Ground Zero Mosque scheme, Sharif El-Gamal. An Islamic sanctuary is a mosque. The article adds: “An Islamic museum ‘is just as much of an insult,’ Pamela Geller, a blogger and one of the center’s most vocal opponents, wrote in an email. ‘It will be like having a museum touting the glories of the Japanese Empire at Pearl Harbor.’” This is what I actually told the New York Times: “The 16-story mosque that El-Gamal initially planned to build there has not been built. Our efforts in...

Last Monday, I appeared at the University of Buffalo at the invitation of the courageous students of Young Americans for Freedom. They have to put up with campus Left-fascist thuggery on a daily basis, while I was able to leave Buffalo the morning after the event. I say I “appeared,” because to say “I spoke” would be exaggerating a bit. Rather, I spoke a few sentences and made a couple of points in between being screamed at by Leftist and Islamic supremacist fascists who think they’re opposing fascism. The Spectrum, the student newspaper of the University at Buffalo, reported: Robert...

A prophesy appearing to call for the murder of Jews repeated during a sermon at a Copenhagen mosque has caused outrage in Denmark after it was released online. Mundhir Abdallah was reported to police after being filmed repeating in Arabic an anti-Semitic hadith- a teaching of Muhammad. The verse says “Judgment Day will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them.” He declares a “caliphate” is coming – that is a state governed in accordance with Islamic Sharia law. It will be part of a jihad to unite the Muslim community and liberate the al-Aqsa mosque in...

"Muhammad Alarefe, a prominent Saudi religious leader, has demanded that FIFA, the international soccer governing body, instruct players to stop making the Christian sign of the cross." For many Christians, their deep, personal and peaceful faith is inextricable from every aspect of their life. Making the sign of the cross — or any other religious gesture — should not pose a problem or threat to anyone, but to the Islamic supremacist leader Muhammad Alarefe and his ilk, any religious expression outside of Islam represents a threat, especially since FIFA is so prestigious. Let’s hope FIFA honors the religious freedoms of...

In a hearing centered on Russian interference in the election, one senator took the opportunity to question the former attorney general who was fired for refusing to defend President Trump's travel ban. Senator John Kennedy (R-Louisiana) asked former acting Attorney General Sally Yates why she refused to defend Trump's initial executive order barring travel from several Mideast nations. "I believed any argument [the Justice Department] would have to make in its defense would not be grounded in the truth," Yates said. "We would have to argue that it had nothing to do with religion," she said. Kennedy asked whether there...

Emmanuel Macron was elected president of France on Sunday with a business-friendly vision of European integration, defeating Marine Le Pen, a far-right nationalist who threatened to take France out of the European Union, early projections showed. The centrist's emphatic victory, which also smashed the dominance of France’s mainstream parties, will bring huge relief to European allies who had feared another populist upheaval to follow Britain's vote to quit the EU and Donald Trump's election as U.S. president. The 39-year-old former investment banker, who served for two years as economy minister but has never previously held elected office, will now become...
