WAYNE -- The race to replace Chris Christie as New Jersey's governor isn't sleepy any more. That much was clear Wednesday night as Democratic nominee Phil Murphy and Republican nominee Kim Guadagno spent much of their second and final televised debate shooting verbal arrows at each other. The event was held at William Paterson University in Wayne just 20 days before a Nov. 7 election that has often inspired little more than apathy among the state's voters. But if the rivals' first debate was contentious, this one was downright nasty.

Well...well, today New Jersey & Virginia will be blessed or cursed with a "political" campaigning "FAILED" ex-POTUS, Barack Hussein Obama. Will Obama be the magical glowing touch of victory or the forsaken failure for both Murphy & Northam in NJ & VA!!! Will hundreds of thousands of African-Americans turn out, today to be fooled once again by the Ex-POTUS, and, his Democrat low lifes ruling the "GHETTO AAMERICAN CITIES" who left them all out in the cold during his eight year rule of trapping millions of American Blacks in poverty, crime, murder, rape, fatherless homes, lack of education, no jobs,...

Former President Barack Obama is returning to the campaign trail to stump for Democratic gubernatorial candidates in New Jersey and Virginia as they gear up for next month’s elections. Thursday’s events mark the first time the former president is stepping back into the political spotlight since leaving the White House. Unlike more low-key appearances earlier this year, Obama’s foray into two states won’t be a one-and-done. He is planning more public appearances as the year closes, and preparation for the 2018 midterm elections begins. […] Obama is hoping to sway voters in New Jersey and Virginia, the only two gubernatorial...

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) says the federal “assault weapons” ban that lapsed in 2004 would have prevented the Las Vegas attack, had that ban still been in force today. This claim shows a deep misunderstanding of the “assault weapons” ban, which did not ban the possession or purchase of “assault weapons.” Rather, it limited importation and mandated types that could be manufactured in the U.S., thus driving up prices. For a man of means like Stephen Paddock, paying the higher price for an “assault weapon” would have been no problem.

Washington (CNN) - Sen. Chris Murphy said Sunday that a decision by President Donald Trump to pull the United States out of the Iran nuclear agreement would harm the US and benefit Iran. "The President is about to impose on himself and this country a dramatic self-inflicted wound because by pulling out of this agreement, Iran will go back onto a path to develop a nuclear weapon," the Connecticut Democrat said on CNN's "State of the Union." If the US exits the agreement, Iran would still receive sanctions relief from other nations party to the deal, and the move would...

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said Tuesday that he will introduce legislation to crack down on a background check "loophole" in the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas. "I will introduce a measure to close the loophole that lets a buyer walk away with a gun if the background check is not complete in 72 hrs," Blumenthal wrote in a tweet. The so-called "default to proceed" loophole allows a business to sell a gun after 72 hours if the FBI hasn't completed a background check confirming that the sale is legal before then. The practice allowed more than 2,500 prohibited purchasers...

UPDATE: While Murphy initially said his tuition-free plan would cost as much as $400 million, a Murphy spokesman later clarified that the most it would cost would be $200 million. TRENTON -- Democratic nominee for governor Phil Murphy on Monday formally announced a plan to offer tuition-free community college to all New Jerseyans. "We simply do not have the workforce that we need," said Murphy, standing on the sidewalk of the Trenton Junior College & School of Industrial Arts and flanked by U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J. "We can and we must open the doors of opportunity, wide, for all...

NEWARK — The Democratic candidate for New Jersey governor opened his post-Labor Day blitz accusing his Republican opponent of abdicating her moral leadership. The Republican challenger retorted with accusations of race baiting. They were the type of hyperbolic accusations often thrown around in a nail-biting, nasty political campaign with such vitriolic attacks feeding a frenetic news cycle hungry for daily conflict and a riled electorate packing town hall meetings and rallies. This is not that kind of race. Despite an election that will mark the end of the tumultuous tenure of Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican, and the fact that...

A Washington Post analysis puts Murphy near the top of the list. Murphy has said he doesn't want higher office at this time. Sen. Chris Murphy’s name is near the top of a list of potential Democratic challengers for the 2020 presidential race, according to a recent analysis by the Washington Post. Murphy appeared third on the Fix’s list behind former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders. Here’s part of what the Post had to say on Murphy: He's also got clear progressive bona fides — on gun control and fighting Trump — without seeming like too much...

RUTHERFORD – The gubernatorial campaigns had their own challenges at the annual Street Fair here, unofficially the bellwether kickoff of the New Jersey general election season. Democrat Phil Murphy had to present just enough organic-looking authenticity to avoid projecting the clanking, bug-squashing arrogance of a passionless imperial army; while Republican Kim Guadagno needed to play up underdog passion without too nobly resembling the Spartan Army of Leonidas that got crushed by Xerxes. InsiderNJ tried to ply the “it’s over” narrative among Democrats, and they didn’t – for the most part – take the bait. “I think it’s fair to say...

Phil Murphy, the Democratic nominee for governor, pledged Thursday to enact many of the gun-control measures that Republican Gov. Chris Christie has denied if he is elected in November, raising the likelihood that so-called smart guns will hit the market in New Jersey and .50-caliber rifles will be purged from it. But Murphy wouldn't stop there. In a conference call to accept the endorsement of a super PAC led by former Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Murphy said he is considering a new tax on gun sales to support law enforcement and mental health programs, as well as a host of...

With the Rev. Al Sharpton at his side, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy made a campaign stop today at a hi-tech education center in Newark's South Ward, saying the state needed to support urban youth to succeed in a globalized and digitized economy. "We've got to be here, backing up these kids, to make sure that they can achieve all that they can achieve," said Murphy, flanked by Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Newark native Sheila Oliver, the Democratic lieutenant gubernatorial candidate. "Centers like this are at the very center of our economy. This is the future of our economy."

TRENTON -- The latest poll in the race to succeed Chris Christie as New Jersey's governor shows Democratic nominee Phil Murphy with a commanding 27-point lead over Republican nominee Kim Guadagno -- though a majority of voters continue to say they don't know much about either candidate. The Monmouth University Poll, released Wednesday, found 53 percent of Garden State voters would choose Murphy, a former U.S. ambassador to Germany, while 26 percent would pick Guadagno, the state's lieutenant governor.

Holy congressional probe, Robin! Former FBI chief Robert Mueller is the hero America needs to investigate Russia’s meddling into the 2016 presidential election, his former second-in-charge said Sunday. “A line in New York would be Batman’s back to save Gotham, but I think in this case, Batman is back to save America,” Timothy Murphy told John Catsimatidis during an interview on “The Cats Roundtable.” Murphy served as the agency’s deputy director under Mueller, who was named as a special counsel in the investigation this week, following James Comey’s ouster as FBI director. Murphy insisted any investigation headed by his old...

Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) blamed the non-stop talk about Russia for Jon Ossoff’s loss Tuesday in the Georgia special election in his appearance on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’. Senator Murphy appeared on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ to talk about Jon Ossoff’s loss in Georgia’s 6th District and the future of the Democrat party. When asked if Democrats need to be more progressive or more moderate to win elections, Murphy responded, “I think the Democrats need to be hyper-focused on an economic message that tells people that the Republican party is all about the economic growth for millionaires and billionaires and the Democrat...

Last year, eight members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence issued a demand that their staffers be granted access to top secret classified information. The signatories to the letter were Andre Carson, Luis Guiterez, Jim Himes, Terri Sewell, Jackie Speier, Mike Quigley, Eric Swalwell and Patrick Murphy. All the signatories were Democrats. Some had a history of attempting to undermine national security. Two of them have been linked to an emerging security breach. The office of Andre Carson, the second Muslim in Congress, had employed Imran Awan. As did the offices of Jackie Speier and Debbie Wasserman Schultz;...

Within hours of Trump’s statement at a press conference in the White House Rose Garden, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) called on House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) to invite the president before their panel.

NEWARK -- Phil Murphy, a former banking executive and U.S. ambassador to Germany who has poured millions from his own fortune into the race for New Jersey governor and vows to reinvigorate the state's economy, fought off five rivals Tuesday night to win the Democratic nomination in the battle to succeed Chris Christie. The Associated Press called the race for Murphy about an hour after the polls closed.

Chris Christie, picked up the endorsements of New Jersey's Democratic U.S. Senators on Monday and vowed to disobey orders from a President Donald Trump that would violate the constitution or are "un-American."
