With the Islamic Republic of Iran’s help he built a global nexus of militant warfare and terrorist operations. The road to 9/11, it was Imad who introduced Osama Bin laden to Khomeini’s cult of the Islamic Suicide Bomber. In late July 1996, American warships, a full complement of military hardware, and nearly 4,000 Marines, sailors and SEALs, were praying they could pull off the mission of their lives....

On Feb. 12, 2008, Imad Mughniyah, Hezbollah’s international operations chief, walked on a quiet nighttime street in Damascus after dinner at a nearby restaurant. Not far away, a team of CIA spotters in the Syrian capital was tracking his movements. As Mughniyah approached a parked SUV, a bomb planted in a spare tire on the back of the vehicle exploded, sending a burst of shrapnel across a tight radius. He was killed instantly. The device was triggered remotely from Tel Aviv by agents with Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence service, who were in communication with the operatives on the ground...

On the fifth anniversary of the assassination of Imad Mughniyah, a.k.a. “The Iranian Jackal,” much new information about the hunt for the terrorist most wanted by Mossad and the FBI has emerged. It’s a story of high-tech surveillance and old-fashioned espionage, and it’s just starting to be truly told now. Imad Mughniyah was 20 years old when he made his debut on the international terrorist scene in 1983, with a series of spectacular and deadly bombings aimed at Western forces in Lebanon. The 1983 Beirut suicide bombings included those on April 18 at the U.S. Embassy (63 killed); on Oct....

Beirut, Lebanon - When Imad Mughniyah, Hezbollah's top military commander, was assassinated by a car bomb in Damascus one year ago, the militant Shiite group blamed Israel – which denied involvement – and vowed revenge. But a year on, that vow remains unfulfilled. While Israel is taking no chances and has tightened security ahead of the Mughniyah anniversary, Israeli officials repeatedly have claimed that threats of massive retaliation to a Hezbollah revenge attack have deterred the Shiite group. "On the one hand, Hezbollah is driven by its desire to carry out an attack as revenge for the death of Mughniyah...

Feb. 12 will mark the one-year anniversary of theassassination of Imad Mughniyah, one of Hezbollah’s top military commanders. The anniversary certainly will be met with rejoicing in Tel Aviv and Washington — in addition to all the Israelis he killed, Mughniyah also had a significant amount of American blood on his hands. But the date will be met with anger and renewed cries for revenge from Hezbollah’s militants, many of whom were recruited, trained or inspired by Mughniyah.

American investigative journalist Kenneth Timmerman this week exposed what the US government admitted four years ago, but has since tried to keep quiet: that Iran likely played a major role in the September 11, 2001 Al Qaeda terrorist attacks on the United States. Timmerman, one of the editors of the popular NewsMax website, told Israel National Radio’s Tovia Singer that the 9/11 Commission Report issued in 2004 acknowledged that all the evidence points to Iran being “deeply, directly and materially involved” in the attacks on New York City and the Pentagon.

From a giant representation of the olive-green cap he wore in the battlefield, to his personal assault rifle, his comb and the mat he prayed on, an exhibition commemorating the second anniversary of Hezbollah's latest war with Israel centered on the group's slain military commander, Imad Mughniyah. Displaying charred remains of captured Israeli gear and equipment along with some of Mughniyah's personal belongings, the exhibition seeks to glorify the man and what the Lebanese Shiite militant group regards as his greatest achievement, the "divine victory" of the summer 2006 war. Before his obscure assassination last February in Damascus, Mughniyah was...

(IsraelNN.com) Syrian President Bashar Assad's top aide and adviser, General Mohammed Suleiman, was assassinated on Friday, according to Arab news sources. Suleiman, who was also Syria's liaison officer to the Hizbullah terrorist organization in Lebanon, was shot and killed by an unidentified sniper in the Syrian port city of Tartous. Syrian authorities tried unsuccessfully to prevent publication of the news. The country's Albawaba newspaper, which reported the incident, speculated that Israel might have been behind the killing. Both Albawaba and the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper raised the issue of last February's assassination of Hizbullah second-in-command Imad Mughniyeh, who died in a...

Senior Syrian officials will hold a press conference in the coming days in order to present progress in the investigation into the assassination of Hezbollah's deputy leader Imad Mughniyah, who was killed last week in a Damascus blast, a Lebanese newspaper reported Tuesday. (snip) The report essentially hints that Arab states' security services were involved in the assassination, and the newspaper's editor wrote a separate article Tuesday accusing Jordanian intelligence officials of gathering information on the activities of Palestinian terrorist organizations in Syria, which were the targets of assassination attempts. Al-Amin reiterated that Hezbollah is likely to retaliate against Israel,...

The Lebanese newspaper A-Safir reported Saturday that the Lebanon-based guerilla group Hezbollah has deployed 50,000 "activists" along the southern border with Israel and declared a state of high alert in southern Lebanon. According to the report, the organization has also evacuated all buildings in the area designated for social or political purposes in recent days, in preparation for a confrontation with Israel in the wake of the assassination of Hezbollah terror chief Imad Mughniyah. Mughniyah, the organization's deputy secretary general, was killed in a blast in an upscale Damascus neighborhood late Tuesday. On Thursday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah blamed Israel...

An explosion has rocked the centre of Mexico City, killing at least one man and injuring two other people. The device was set off near the city's police headquarters, Mexico City police chief Joel Ortega said. No group has so far said it carried out the attack. Investigators believe the bomb was activated remotely by a mobile phone. The dead man's hand was blown off, the police chief said. It is unclear whether he was responsible for the bomb or if he simply picked up the package. The blast occurred at about 1430 (2030 GMT) near the tourist area known...

The Israel Defence Forces have been placed on high alert at the Lebanese border and Israel's counter-terrorism bureau has advised citizens traveling abroad, diplomatic missions and Jewish communities and institutions around the world to take strict safety precautions and request police protection, following Sheik Hassan Nasrallah's threats on Thursday to avenge the killing of Hezbollah's Operations Chief Imad Mughniyah. Special commando units have been dispatched to reinforce the northern command to combat attempted abductions of Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah militants and all troop leave has been cancelled until further notice. The Navy has also been alerted to possible offshore infiltration...

The Tehran-based Arabic-language Al-Alam TV led its 1000 gmt news summary with the announcement that it had obtained footage of the "assassination of the commander of the Islamic resistance, the martyr Imad Mughniyah, in Kfar Susah District, in the Syrian capital Damascus, on Tuesday". The newsreader added: "The clip, taken with a mobile phone, shows the moment of the explosion and fire breaking out in the car which had been detonated by remote control. Reports had said that the assassination was carried out by blowing up a booby-trapped car which was parked next to martyr Mughniyah's car as he was...

Mughniyah Imad Mughniyah has reportedly gone to his virgins. I say “reportedly” because you never really know with him. He has changed his appearance in the past, even, I am told, his fingerprints, and is altogether capable of feigning his death. As Tom Jocelyn has tirelessly reported, he was in cahoots with al Qaeda, and moved between Lebanon, Syria, Iran and Iraq. I have long believed he was the key Iranian operative in Iraq, and his documented contacts with Zarqawi show that. No surprise that he was in Damascus when destiny apparently claimed him. Hezbollah was a joint Iranian-Syrian operation...

Reservist Military Intelligence officers tell Ynet of Imad Mugniyah's prowess as terrorist mastermind. Former Mossad chief Danny Yatom: One of most dangerous terrorists ever. "Hizbullah lost its most important operative in the organization in recent years," a reservist Military Intelligence officer told Ynet on Wednesday in reference to the killing of senior Hizbullah military commander Imad Mugniyah in an explosion in Damascus. "He was an expert in carrying out terrorist attacks and at the same time, he was an expert in maintaining a low profile and knowing, for 20 years, how to evade the many that tried to get him,"...

A missile fired by Hezbollah, not an unmanned drone laden with explosives, damaged an Israeli warship off Lebanon, the army said Saturday. Elite Iranian troops helped fire the missile... One sailor was killed and three were missing. The intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the information, said about 100 Iranian soldiers are in Lebanon and helped fire the Iranian-made, radar-guided C-102 at the ship late Friday. The official added that the troops involved in firing the missile are from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, an elite corps of more than 200,000 fighters that...
