Looking for a way to connect a landline phone via a computer that is wirelessly connected to the Internet (which I using now to post this), without physically plugging into a modem/router (since that is on a different floor). This would have to work with cordless phones. I see magicJack EXPRESS Digital Phone Service , but cannot find clear documentation as to whether one can get phone service using this without plugging into a modem, vs. just plugging into a computer that is wirelessly connected to the Internet. Likewise magicJackHome 2019 VOIP Phone Adapter Portable, or OBi200 1-Port VoIP Phone...

Apple today has confirmed that it will acquire Intel’s smartphone modem business in a transaction valued at $1 billion. The deal is expected to close during the fourth quarter of 2019 and is subject to regulatory approval. Through this acquisition, Apple will beef up its wireless technology patent portfolio to over 17,000 patents. Apple also says that approximately 2,200 Intel employees will join Apple, as will Intel’s equipment and leases that pertain to the smartphone modem business. Apple and Intel have signed an agreement for Apple to acquire the majority of Intel’s smartphone modem business. Approximately 2,200 Intel employees will...

I am relocating and will be using TWC cable internet for the first time. I'm seeking recommendations for single unit Modem/Router - esp the best "Bang for the Buck" TWC does recommend Netgear N300 and N600 - both offer 300mbs speed. However, it appears the only difference is N600 is "300+300" Dual-Band. I'm not sure if the higher priced "300+300" is worth it or even required as I'll be the only user. Any suggestions or insight is greatly appreciated! newfreep "DRAIN the SWAMP...with extreme prejudice"

Like clockwork, every September the entire tech world gets excited for the newest Apple device. The combination of a premium build, unmatched system performance, and tightly integrated software and services delivers what’s considered to be the gold standard in smartphone user experience. Over the past five years, Apple’s modem supplier was Qualcomm, but this year, Apple has taken a different approach with the decision to source two instead of one baseband chipset suppliers: Qualcomm and Intel. This created two distinct RF SKUs, one limited to GSM/WCDMA/LTE support (A1778, A1784), powered by Intel’s modem, and one with GSM/CDMA/WCDMA/TD-SCDMA/LTE support (A1660,...
  • Looking for wireless DSL modem recommendations (VANITY)

My 6 year old DSL modem is apparently dying. Turning the power on and off to the modem immediately brings it back for a while, but it is unreliable. I added on a router for a workstation and a hardwired network printing and an access point for wireless, but I would like to replace all of these pieces with a single unit. Requirements are compatibility with AT&T DSL, a hardwired network printer and workstation, and N and G wireless. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

I have a question regarding the modem on my PC. My OS is Windows Vista and my IP is NetZero. When someone tries to call on my phone, it won't disconnect my Internet dial-up service. Instead, callers listen to my line ringing and ringing. How can I fix my modem software so that incoming calls will get through (IOW, my phone will ring)? I went to the control panel and can't figure it out. Than you!

I had not been to visit the main Navy website for several months, so it was surprising to find that none of my Navy history bookmarks work anymore. Unfortunately, all links in my collection of Navy bookmarks point to http://www.navy.mil and http://www.history.navy.mil. Attempts to browse to the site return a "DNS lookup error". (Army.mil and af.mil still work.) BTW, all of the links at the Navy recruiting site -- http://www.navy.com/sitesofinterest/ -- also point to navy.mil. All google searches on Navy topics seem to bring up navy.mil. Does anyone know if the address has changed? Or if there is a redirect...

I have 2 computer problems:1) Compaq Presario 2140 laptop. XP Pro. Dial-up modem will not work - when I try, I get the "no dial tone" message. Phone line is securely in place. Phone line works, and desktop computer dial-up using same line also works. Any suggestions?2) Dell 8400 Desktop. XP Pro. I have Spyware Blaster downloaded, but cannot get updates. When I try, message pops up saying problem reaching server, try back later, blah, blah, blah. Uninstalled and re-installed, but no luck. Then downloaded Spyware Guard. When first tried to download update, box popped up with 3 options (think...
  • How do I log cable modem down time?

My internet cable modem company, Millennium Digital, has had its ups/downs lately. My wife says it is down during the day a lot. I don't have to pay for down time if I report it. It would be nice to have a simple system tray program that monitors/logs the cable Internet down time so I can request a refund if it gets unreasonable. Does anyone know of such a program? It would be nice if it was designed to just do the above.
