Police and protesters in Ferguson were finally able to share the streets again at night, putting aside for at least a few hours some of the hostility that had filled those hours with tear gas and smoke. The St. Louis suburb still had plenty of lively protest Tuesday over the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown. And tensions rose briefly when someone hurled a bottle at officers. Police told KMOV-TV that urine and bottles were thrown at officers by protesters who hid in the media staging area. Some protesters also chanted “Time To Kill A Cop.” …

Attorney General Eric Holder will be in Ferguson, Missouri, on Wednesday to meet with FBI and law enforcement officials, as well as community leaders, although it's unclear what effect he will have on the tinderbox the northern St. Louis suburbs have become — especially after local cops on Tuesday shot and killed a second young black man in as many weeks. Holder hasn't commented on the second shooting. He is making the trip primarily to meet with the principal players surrounding the shooting of Michael Brown, the black 18-year-old gunned down by a white Ferguson police officer on Aug. 9....

The police department indicates it has 12 eyewitnesses to the shooting who confirm officer Wilson's account, and Wilson has an eye orbital fracture which is also consistent with his claim that Brown reached into the police car and attacked him. A South Florida mother who knows the pain of losing a son firsthand has written an open letter in support of the family of Michael Brown, the 18-year-old killed by a police officer in Ferguson, MO earlier this month.... “They both were unarmed. Protests on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, were significantly calmer on Tuesday night, but the peaceful atmosphere disintegrated amid a series of clashes that led to 47 arrests, with police claiming they were pelted with bottles containing urine. For most of the night demonstrations were calm with protesters holding signs and chanting, although the majority had taken the advice of leaders to wrap things up by nightfall. Then just before midnight, the protests took a turn for the worst after some people started throwing plastic bottles at police.
