Donald Trump didn't win Minnesota. And he never visited Mower County. But his message resonated with voters in LeRoy and Lyle. Now they wonder: What's next? ~SNIP~ With Fox News on a nearby TV, the coffee crowd, which included a former deputy sheriff and retired and semiretired farmers and truckers, was decidedly optimistic about President-elect Donald Trump. “We’re the kind of people who believe in country, family and faith — not necessarily in that order,” said Dave Johnson, a semiretired cattle and hog farmer, Trump man and the table’s informal alpha dog. “We’re concerned about the future, and a lot...

Minnesota's 10 presidential electors have cast their ballots for Hillary Clinton. Clinton won the state and the electors were pledged to support her, but Monday's vote at the Capitol wasn't without minor drama. One elector, Muhammad Abdurrahman, cast his ballot for Bernie Sanders and it was immediately tossed out as required by law, with an alternate taking his place. Abdurraham was a delegate for Sanders at the Democratic National Convention.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has said in recent days that Minnesota is his to win, will make his first public visit to the state Sunday afternoon. “We’re going up to Minnesota which, traditionally has not been Republican at all,” Trump said at a rally in Florida. “And we’re doing phenomenally. We just saw a poll.” The Trump rally will be at 2 p.m. at the Sun Country hangar at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, located at 2005 Cargo Road. Gates will open at 11 a.m. Tickets are required and can be requested on Trump’s website....

The eighth Congressional District of Minnesota is a working class area in Eastern Minnesota. It has voted for a Democrat in the last four Presidential elections. It has a Democrat Congressman and will likely be the most expensive Congressional race this year. Usually, a Democrat Presidential candidate would win. But a recent poll held a shock: Donald Trump is up 12 points! And more: Trump is winning among women. And the Democrat Party is losing members. They’re becoming Independents.

  • Toss-up in Minnesota? Site puts state in the middle, but candidates focusing on neighboring states

Is Minnesota now a toss-up state? That’s the verdict from election-tracker site Real Clear Politics this week, which moved Minnesota out of the “Leans Clinton” category in its analysis of the presidential race between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. If Minnesota is a toss-up, though, the campaigns aren’t acting like it. Trump made campaign stops in neighboring Iowa and Wisconsin on Wednesday, but he skipped Minnesota. Clinton also appeared in Iowa on Thursday but skipped Minnesota — though her campaign did dispatch Anne Holton, wife of vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine, to an early voting event Thursday at...

Local and national polling shows a neck and neck race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in Minnesota. MINNEAPOLIS, M.N. — For over 50 years, Minnesota has remained a safe haven for democratic presidential votes. Even in 1984, Minnesota was the only state in the union to vote for Walter Mondale instead of Ronald Reagan, who won in a landslide. However, a new KSTP/SurveyUSA poll shows the race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is much closer than originally thought in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. The new poll numbers released by KSTP this morning show Clinton leading Trump 46%...

ST. PAUL—A new Minnesota Poll shows Donald Trump closing Hilary Clinton's lead in the state, which mirrors national polls showing the presidential race tightening. The Star Tribune's Minnesota Poll indicates Clinton would receive 44 percent of the vote and Trump 38 percent if the election were held now. North Dakota native Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate and former New Mexico governor, received 12 percent support, although more than a quarter of those surveyed said they did not know who he is. Democrat Clinton's strongest support came in the heavily Democratic areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul, where she held a...
  • Democrats sue to get Donald Trump off Minnesota ballots

Minnesota Democrats have sued to get Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s name removed from the state’s general election ballots. The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party’s Thursday lawsuit claims the Minnesota Republican Party failed to nominate its presidential electors, the people who cast the state’s 10 electoral college votes, in accordance with state law. Keith Downey, the chair of the Minnesota Republican Party, said last month that the party called a special meeting to approve alternative electors because it had previously neglected to do so. The suit, which was filed directly to the Minnesota Supreme Court, adds a new level of chaos to an...

Minnesota Democrats are lobbying to remove Donald Trump from their state’s presidential ballot, according to reports. The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party has filed a legal petition with their state’s Supreme Court to oust the GOP’s presidential nominee, accusing Republicans of bypassing the democratic process, Politico reported Friday. The party claims that the GOP did not properly choose alternates to its electoral college, so the entire slate of 10 electors, their alternates, and the presidential ticket should be thrown out. “The Minnesota GOP did not elect alternate presidential electors at the state convention earlier this year,” Minnesota DFL Chairman Ken Martin...

ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Minnesota Democrats have filed a lawsuit seeking to have Donald Trump and Mike Pence kicked off the ballot in November after the state party failed to follow election law in selecting the slate of names that will appear. The matter stems from a legal technicality involving alternate delegates to the electoral college. The Minnesota constitution states electoral college delegates and their alternates must be elected at the party's convention. The GOP picked its electoral college delegates at the party convention on Aug. 24, but did not pick alternates. When the party submitted its...

Just days after his supporters and motorcade were attacked by protesters in Minneapolis at a GOP fundraiser, the Minnesota Republican party has not submitted the names of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and his vice presidential nominee Mike Pence to the secretary of state’s office for the November election, it was reported Wednesday night. A check of the sample ballot listed at the website for the Minnesota secretary of state shows the tickets of Democrat Farm-Labor Hillary Clinton, Libertarian Gary Johnson, Green Jill Stein, anti-Trumper Evan McMullin and others with Socialist, Marijuana and other parties–but no Donald Trump. I’m old enough to remember the good old days when everyone was terribly concerned about Donald Trump rallies and how his supporters would probably go all nutcase on the world, turning violent and gunning down random passers by if they happened to feel like it. After all, what else would you expect? Thankfully, all of the forces opposed to Trump are far more civil, expressing their discontent with his candidacy in the form of strongly worded letters to the editor or prayer circles calling for peace. Take for example, the events outside of this meeting with fundraisers in Minneapolis. (The...

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is making his first visit to Minnesota this campaign, but not for any public appearance. Trump is meeting with wealthy Republican donors to raise money, and doesn't plan a public rally. However, a spokesman for the Minnesota Trump campaign says the lack of a public rally doesn't mean Trump won't compete here. "We feel very good about Minnesota and we're going to be trying hard in Minnesota," Brian LeClair told Tom Hauser in an interview for "At Issue" that will be broadcast Sunday morning at 10 a.m. "Not only is he making a visit this...

Ilhan Omar spent four years in a Kenyan refugee camp as a young girl, fleeing with her family from civil war in Somalia. Two decades later, after forging a new life in Minnesota, she appears on the brink of becoming the nation’s first Somali-American state legislator. Omar, a 33-year-old community activist, cried as she delivered victory speeches in English and Somali after defeating a 44-year incumbent in the latest sign of the Somali community’s growing influence in the city and state. Her victory in a heavily Democratic Minneapolis district makes her a strong favorite in the general election — where...
