Since my last vanity announcement on keywords went so swimmingly (it ended up with something like 5000 keywords added to it) I thought a great idea would be to throw some propane on some other fires with a vanity.

Breaking news is being abused again, big time. This goes in cycles, with sometimes people being responsible, but other times people not being very responsible.

We are in one of the not-very time periods.

Nov. 18 issue — Election Day dawned in excellent fashion for a president leading a war on world terror and a political campaign for control of Congress. Thanks to a well-timed leak from the Pentagon, the morning newspapers featured what amounted to a riveting, last-minute campaign ad, a story (with a dramatic picture) about how a CIA Predator drone had incinerated a carload of Al Qaeda in Yemen. By late afternoon, George W. Bush got more good news. Harvey Pitt, his gasoline-on-the-fire chairman of the SEC, had saved Bush the trouble of firing him by voluntarily resigning. WITH NIGHTFALL CAME...

It's hallelujah time in the White House as the Democrats discover (again) what a mistake it is to underestimate George W. Bush. Here's how far he plans to go with his new mandate By ROMESH RATNESAR BROOKS KRAFT/GAMMA FOR TIME Supporters cheer President Bush at a welcome rally in Sioux Falls, South Dakota Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002 No gloating, read the e-mail that greeted euphoric Republican leaders as they sleeplessly stumbled into work last Wednesday. The command came directly from the White House, which hours earlier had pulled off the biggest presidential triumph in a midterm election in nearly a...

"They misunderestimated me."So said then-candidate George W. Bush of his opponents on the eve of the 2000 presidential election. At the time, the remark was added to a long list of Bush gaffes and malapropisms. But maybe he coined precisely the right word.Given the president's very successful week -- in which he won a resounding victory in Tuesday's elections, then secured a unanimous resolution on Iraq from the U.N. Security Council -- his supporters and many of his opponents found themselves agreeing that he has often been misunderstood and underestimated. For more than two years, at the mere mention of...
