The Nazi LARPers and Confederate cosplayers at Charlottesville, along with their alt-right supporters, frequently justify themselves by claiming to be defenders of white culture and heritage. However, it is unclear how a Nazi Tiki-torch parade accomplishes this. Nonetheless, let us consider the merits of the claim, which is, in part at least, a response to leftwing identity politics that relentlessly racialize everything. Unsurprisingly, endlessly essentializing and demonizing whiteness helped produce some whites who accept the premise of racial identity but ditch the conclusion of white guilt in favor of white supremacy. Are they correct that there is a distinct white...

History is full of examples of Mass Hysterias. They happen fairly often. The cool thing about mass hysterias is that you don’t know when you are in one. But sometimes the people who are not experiencing the mass hysteria can recognize when others are experiencing one, if they know what to look for. I’ll teach you what to look for.

President Trump on Saturday first addressed the alarming violence that was then unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia, between neo-nazi nationalists and their opponents, the alt-Left “activists” that includes groups such as Antifa, Black Lives Matter, Communists, anarchists, and supporters of Palestinian terror. Trump had been scheduled to speak about the Veterans Administration. To the extent his comments addressed Charlottesville, they were hastily constructed, on the basis of incomplete knowledge. Representing Donald Trump, unplugged and unvarnished, they came straight from his heart. And, to my mind, they were perfect. I wouldn’t change a word. “Egregious” displays of “hatred, bigotry and violence” have...

The inexhaustible left is perpetually lying in wait to entrap President Donald Trump in some impeachable offense. Sadly, some vocal Trump critics on the right seem just as eager to purge America of Trump. They hate him and hate that he won, and their impeachment lust will not be satiated until he's gone. The Trump haters on the right are one thing. But don't be deceived into believing that the anti-Trump angst factories on the left are only about Trump. To be sure, these leftists hate Trump with a white-hot passion, but their primary goal is to thwart, suppress and...

The riots were not about a statue and it was not about the alt-right. Antifa (an umbrella term for different nominally “anti-fascist” groups) has been itching for a real fight for a long time. It was only fun attacking Trump supporters for so long (as they did in Seattle over the weekend), and their exposure in the press has been diminishing. What’s the point of rioting if you can’t get your group on CNN? Sure, you can’t let your identity be known because of potential criminal charges but the mask takes care of that. Then, you can tell your friends...

Robert E. Lee. Stonewall Jackson. Nathan Bedford Forest. In the past few weeks, monuments and statues to the Confederacy have been removed around the country. Schools have begun changing their names, and even streets and parks are undergoing name changes. All of this is due to what many see are memorials to one of the darkest sins of our nation, slavery and racism.

Progressives used to pressure U.S. corporations to cut back on outsourcing and on the tactic of building their products abroad to take advantage of inexpensive foreign workers. During the 2012 election, President Obama attacked Mitt Romney as a potential illiberal “outsourcer-in-chief” for investing in companies that went overseas in search of cheap labor. Yet most of the computers and smartphones sold by Silicon Valley companies are still being built abroad — to mostly silence from progressive watchdogs.

Wilber Zarate filed a lawsuit against the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals for taking his 9-year-old daughter’s dog from their mobile park home and then putting the pooch down ahead of the state’s mandatory five-day grace period.... In the suit, Zarate claimed PETA works under a board policy of euthanizing animals because it “considers pet ownership to be a form of involuntary bondage.”

After losing her engagement ring on her family farm more than a decade ago, Canadian Mary Grams resigned herself to the idea she would never see it again. That is, until the diamond ring showed up this week – 13 years after she lost it –wrapped tightly around a misshapen carrot that had been freshly plucked from the garden. The 84-year-old said she likely lost the ring as she was pulling a large weed from her farm in central Alberta in 2004, prompting a frantic search. “We looked high and low on our hands and knees … we couldn’t find...

Wednesday, August 16, 2017 marks 30 years since the Flight 255 disaster in Romulus. Northwest Airlines Flight 255, headed for Phoenix, crashed shortly after takeoff from Detroit Metro Airport. The plane was just clearing the runway at 8:46 p.m. when it tilted slightly. The left wing clipped a light pole, and the damaged airliner sheared the top off a rental car building. The plane then crashed onto Middlebelt Road, just north of Wick Road. The crash killed 156 people. All crew members were killed, and only one passenger survived -- a 4-year-old girl named Cecelia Cichan. Two motorists on Middlebelt...

As white supremacists converged on a Charlottesville park for their violent “Unite the Right” rally, some of them menaced the city’s historic Beth Israel synagogue during Shabbat services, standing across from the building with semi-automatic weapons in their hands. “Had they tried to enter, I don’t know what I could have done to stop them, but I couldn’t take my eyes off them, either,” wrote Alan Zimmerman, the president of the Reform congregation, about the three neo-Nazis he stared down as congregants prayed inside. Zimmerman, in an essay published on ReformJudaism.org, said that neo-Nazis marching past the building shouted hateful...
