Washington, DC — Two weeks after the highly-publicized armed confrontation with renegade rancher Cliven Bundy and self-styled militia supporters, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management filed 35 formal requests for prosecution with the U.S. Attorney in Nevada but all these charges have been held without action, according to records released today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). The Justice Department is also refusing to release information specifying the specific counts and the individuals named in these criminal referrals.

SpaceX appears to have completed an evaluation into potential commonality between a failure on a test vehicle and its Falcon 9 fleet, following its now-approved request to the Eastern Range for a Saturday morning launch of the ASIASAT-6 mission. The launch, to be conducted by SpaceX’s Falcon 9 v1.1 rocket, was delayed just ahead of fueling last week, in order to triple-check its fault detection systems. ASAISAT-6 Mission: Last week’s launch appeared to be going ahead as planned, as the SpaceX team entered the Delta Launch Readiness Review (LRR). The initial LRR had cleared the flow to proceed towards rollout...
  • Georgia dealers want Tesla store shuttered for selling too many Teslas

Imagine owning the most popular automaker in the United States. Now imagine a special interest group eliminating your ability to serve over 10 million Americans unless you did business with their unique cartel. That's in essence what happened right before Labor Day weekend, when the Georgia Auto Dealer Association filed a petition with state officials seeking to cancel Tesla's license to sell its cars in the state of Georgia. Tesla's crime? Selling 173 cars directly from a factory-owned store located 25 miles away from Atlanta, the only Tesla retail location in Georgia. The dealers say Tesla can only sell 150...

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- "Caucasians fever Be a believer In the Cleveland Caucasians..." You'd be hard-pressed finding fans of Chief Wahoo singing this version of the Cleveland Indians fight song. But it's been a winning pitch for Cleveland T-shirt designer Brian Kirby. You could say it's the All-Star, Rookie of the Year and MVP of sports T-shirts. The logo lampoons Chief Wahoo -- adding blonde hair and a dollar sign for the feather and substituting "Caucasians" for Indians. And it's caught on – big, out of the blue. Kirby sold $20,000 of the shirts during one recent 24-hour period – so...

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) — North Korea gave foreign media access on Monday to three detained Americans who said they have been able to contact their families and — watched by officials as they spoke — called for Washington to send a high-ranking representative to negotiate for their freedom. Jeffrey Fowle and Mathew Miller said they expect to face trial within a month. But they said they do not know what punishment they could face or what the specific charges against them are. Kenneth Bae, who already is serving a 15-year term, said his health has deteriorated at the labor...

If you've been in the media for a long time, chances are good you may have in your archives a lot of treasures you don't realize you have. That was the case for Ben Cagle and Earl Freudenberg, longtime broadcasters in the Chattanooga area. Ben and Earl were going through old boxes of cassette tapes, and stumbled upon a recording that likely hasn't been heard for almost four decades: the complete speech of former California Governor and future president, Ronald Reagan. The speech was given at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga on May 21st, 1976. "This particular old tape was...

The U.S. Coast Guard has lost track of a Kurdish tanker carrying $100 million in disputed oil off the coast of Texas, the Independent reports. Headed for Galveston, the United Kalavyrvta was anchored at least 60 miles off-shore when it vanished from radar screens. The ship's haul fell under legal dispute when Iraq filed a lawsuit in U.S. courts, urging American officials to grab the ship's oil in Galveston because it belongs to Iraq, not the Kurdish National Government.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Lamont Jones and Keith Stephens stood 60 feet from each other, separated by four lanes of pavement and a thousand miles of perception. Stephens was wearing a T-shirt printed with a police shield bearing the phrase "OFFICER DARREN WILSON I STAND BY YOU," as part of a rally supporting the white policeman who killed the unarmed black teenager Michael Brown. Jones was across the street, holding up a sign that said, in blood-red letters: "Darren Wilson is a Murderer." There was no overlap in the facts as seen by Jones and Stephens at the demonstrations staged...

If I were being totally honest, I would say that it has not been my experience that very many left-leaning folks in this country want to have an honest dialogue on the key issues that separate left from right. This is particularly true amongst the academically credentialed leftists I have encountered who presumably know they have nothing to gain by exposing their worldview or ability to defend it.

Conservative radio hosts Jim Quinn and Rose Tennent, formerly of WPGB 104.7 FM, have said they turned down an offer to be hosts on the newly reconfigured WJAS-AM (1320), but the station’s ownership would not confirm their statement. “Note: we have declined the offer from WJAS. Terms offered precluded our ability to live stream to our audience which was essential,” the duo posted Thursday on their Twitter account (@warroom). On Friday, they wrote and then deleted a similar tweet. Frank Iorio, owner of Radio Partners LLC, which purchased the station earlier this month, said Friday that the company had been...

Old Ironsides sailed through Boston Harbor Friday for the last time until 2018, as the 216-year-old warship prepares to undergo a three-year restoration beginning early next year. The USS Constitution has sailed unassisted by a tug boat only twice since 1881, in 1997 and 2012. This summer it sailed with the help of a tug, but still moved by its own power. Friday was the final unassisted sail until the ship has completed its restoration. Aside from making the usual repairs for wear and tear, the restoration aims to return Old Ironsides to an image of its 1812 self... ...For...
  • Braggadacio, information control, and fear: Life inside a Brigham stem cell lab under investigation

The following post was written by a former research fellow in the lab of Piero Anversa to whom we’ve promised confidentiality. Anversa has previously told us that he cannot comment because of an ongoing investigation. In the early 2000s, his laboratory published a series of papers regarding the regenerative qualities of bone marrow-derived and cardiac-resident “stem cells." Those initial findings, as well as the research conducted since those early studies, have always been surrounded by controversy, as many have been unsuccessful in efforts to replicate their results. The “Hypothesis” was that c-kit (cd117) positive cells in the heart (or bone...

They want to look nice for the prom. They want to “put down a good base” for their upcoming Shore trip. They want to do it because it’s free on Tuesdays. While most nationwide teenagers appear to be heeding the warning to avoid tanning beds, nearly a third of white high-school girls still use indoor tanning devices.

The setting: a community garden. The central character: a respected Winooski businessman who has contributed to just about every charitable cause in the city. His offense: going out of his way to make sure a local resident didn't feel offended. To recap: Sneakers Bistro & Café owner Marc Dysinger had erected a tongue-in-cheek sign in a community garden that he maintains for Winooski in the downtown traffic circle outside his restaurant. "Yield for Sneakers Bacon," it read. Last week, a local woman who identified herself as "a vegan and a member of a Muslim household," posted a note on Front...
