It was all we could do in the wake of Saturday’s news of the discovery of Jacob Wetterling. Well, perhaps not all. Perhaps we can talk about why there’s a statute of limitations in Minnesota for kidnapping and raping children. Under Minnesota law, indictments or complaints must be made within nine years after the alleged crime was committed or three years after it was reported to law inforcements, whichever is later.

Patty Wetterling has confirmed the remains of her son Jacob Wetterling, who has been missing for almost 27 years, have been found. The Jacob Wetterling Center, which Wetterling’s parents founded in 1990 to educate the public on child abductions, posted a statement to its Facebook page Saturday morning. “We are in deep grief. We didn’t want Jacob’s story to end this way. In this moment of pain and shock, we go back to the beginning. The Wetterlings had a choice to walk into bitterness and anger or to walk into a light of what could be, a light of hope....

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Two days have passed since the private fundraiser held for Donald Trump at the Minneapolis Convention Center and stories are still trickling in about the events of the night. As Alpha News reported, Donald Trump never made a public appearance in Minneapolis but showed up to a quiet and private event at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Friday night. However, that did not stop protesters from showing up by the dozens to show their displeasure with the Republican-endorsed candidate. Trump supporters and donors were met with verbal and physical violence as they tried to enter and exit...

I’m old enough to remember the good old days when everyone was terribly concerned about Donald Trump rallies and how his supporters would probably go all nutcase on the world, turning violent and gunning down random passers by if they happened to feel like it. After all, what else would you expect? Thankfully, all of the forces opposed to Trump are far more civil, expressing their discontent with his candidacy in the form of strongly worded letters to the editor or prayer circles calling for peace. Take for example, the events outside of this meeting with fundraisers in Minneapolis. (The...

How does a Somali get elected to Minnesota’s state legislature? Because she’s from “Little Somalia,” Minneapolis, home to the largest Somali community in America. So it should come as not surprise that a Somali activist unseated one of the longest-serving members of the state legislature earlier this year in Minneapolis. Ilhan Omar defeated Rep. Phyllis Kahn who was in the legislature for 22 terms (44 years). Omar could be the first Somali in America to be elected to any state legislature if she wins in November. Minneapolis is recruiting ground for young terrorists. At least 36 Somali men from Minnesota...

Minnesota's crop, livestock and dairy farmers are suffering with continuing rock bottom prices for their commodities, driving some into bankruptcy. John Quaal, 71, operates a dairy farm near Fergus Falls and tells Minnesota Public Radio News (http://bit.ly/2b5RcoD ) that it's nearly impossible to break even producing milk. "For almost two years now we've been going backwards," said Quaal. "You've got to learn to deal with it I guess. It's just the way it is." Quaal said his farm has lost as much as $40,000 in a single month and figures the family operation lost a total of $300,000 last year....

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Ilhan Omar spent four years in a Kenyan refugee camp as a young girl, fleeing with her family from civil war in Somalia. Two decades later, after forging a new life in Minnesota, she appears on the brink of becoming the nation's first Somali-American state legislator. Omar, a 33-year-old community activist, cried as she delivered victory speeches in English and Somali after defeating a 44-year incumbent in the latest sign of the Somali community's growing influence in the city and state. Her victory in a heavily Democratic Minneapolis district makes her a strong favorite in the general...

The research, conducted by the University of Minnesota, identifies a virulent strain of humans who are virtually immune to any form of verifiable knowledge, leaving scientists at a loss as to how to combat them. “These humans appear to have all the faculties necessary to receive and process information,” Davis Logsdon, one of the scientists who contributed to the study, said. “And yet, somehow, they have developed defenses that, for all intents and purposes, have...

Minnesota lawmakers, and a former gubernatorial candidate and Gold Star Mom picked up the phone today to call on Donald Trump to apologize to the family of Captain Humayun Khan. ASHINGTON, D.C. (August 2, 2016): A new Minnesota law requires all of its colleges to have websites where students can report allegations of sexual assault, naming the alleged perpetrators, but do so completely anonymously. According to the Washington Post, “that means survivors no longer will be forced to trek across campus to a Title IX office.” But that also means that students, or perhaps even non-students, can, just with a few keyboard clicks, trigger a criminal and/or administrative investigation of the student or faculty member named, irreparably smearing his reputation, and perhaps even leading to his expulsion, and to do...

Freeborn County, the rural area surrounding Albert Lea, Minn., roughly 90 minutes south of the Twin Cities, is in the midst of a movement called “Choose Civility,” an attempt to get folks to be nicer to each other in these rancorous times. “Choose respect, consideration, empathy, and tolerance, and be part of a kinder community in Freeborn County!” the civility program website urges. The county fair seemed to be on board with that attitude, with a mission statement that calls for “a moral, clean fair which will command the support of the entire community.” Just when Freeborn County was beginning...
