On July 27, 1949, the world quite abruptly became a very small place. The new scale, which drew together cities and coastlines that had for millennia existed on basically separate planets, came courtesy of the de Havilland Comet, the first commercial jet aircraft to enter production. With its pressurized cabin, it could travel as high as 42,000 feet and, courtesy of four turbojet engines offering 22,000 Newtons of thrust each, it cruised at 460 miles per hour. The Comet was, well, a comet.

A rare and extraordinary photo album documenting a British army regiment in the the Boer War has been discovered after more than 100 years. The album contains more than 150 black and white images of the First Battalion Rifle Brigade and provide a fascinating record of their battles with the Boers in South Africa from 1899 to 1902. The annotated images show a large parade of men before embarking on a ship on the Isle of Wight to take them to South Africa in 1899.

The Chinese navy held a large-scale “live ammunition” drill in the East China Sea, which involved hundreds of ships and submarines from all three fleets of the People’s Liberation Army. The exercise involving China's East Sea, North Sea and South Sea fleets practiced both offensive and defensive capabilities of the Chinese naval power. The exercise mobilized some 300 ships, dozens of fighter planes, and involved troops that are responsible for coastal defense radars, communications, and electronic warfare defense, daily newspaper The China Times reported.

The "queering" of the armed forces took a giant leap forward last week with the announcement of a new ship being named in honor of Harvey Milk, a Navy veteran and the first openly homosexual elected official in California. The Village People are reportedly thrilled. Milk, who was a city supervisor in San Francisco until his 1978 murder, is perhaps best known for his fight against the Briggs Initiative, a statewide ballot question that would have banned openly homosexual teachers from public schools. Governor Ronald Reagan, to his discredit, opposed the measure and it failed by a wide margin. Milk,...

I want every person to understand this. Khizr Kahn and his wife feel they have been insulted by Donald Trump while the Kahns were on stage at the Democrat Convention insulting Mr Trump. Yes, that is what everyone in the media and even the Republican elite wants us to know. Well excuuuuuse me! While their son, Captain Humayun Khan, did die a heroes death when terrorists set off a car bomb, his parents are the ones who asked for trouble by speaking at a political convention using words that attacked the Republican candidate. Out of curiosity, I decided to...

With the F-22 Raptor, the Air Force acquired un equaled power to project air dominance. Lockheed Martin’s single-seat, twin-engined, all-weather fighter blended stealth, supercruise, great agility, and all-sensing avionics. Those features, plus high reliability and low maintenance, marked a huge leap in capability over USAF’s own F-15 Eagle, long the class of air combat. Indeed, the F-22 could not be matched by any known or projected fighter.

How many Americans have lost their lives in service to their country? How many Americans have lost their lives in service to there country fighting radical Islam? The reason I ask is what is Mr.and Mrs. Kahn opinion on Donald Trump have any more merit than any other Gold Star Family? With the thousands and thousands of American families that have lost loved ones in the war on terror alone.. I imagine you'll find every political opinion under the sun so why does mr. Khan's lost somehow give his opinion having greater weight? How is mr. Khan's opinion on Donald...

Barnum, 76, said he was one of only two recipients of the Medal of Honor -- the highest award for combat valor -- to be denied a ceremony at the White House amid widespread public disapproval of the Vietnam War.... "The administration at that time did not want any more publicity about the war," Barnum explained. "So I'm told that [then-Marine Corps Commandant] Gen. [Wallace] Greene said, 'He earned it, it's been approved, and if you won't decorate him, I will.' So I received the Medal of Honor in the [Sousa] Band Hall."

Retired Marine Corps Gen. John Allen said that if Republican nominee Donald Trump becomes president and follows through on some of the things he’s said on the campaign trail, the U.S. could face a “civil military crisis, the like of which we’ve not seen in this country.” "When we swear an oath to support and defend the Constitution, which is a document and a set of principles and it supports the rule of law, one of those is to ensure that we do not obey illegal orders," Allen told told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on "This Week."

Vladimir Putin is assembling a secret fleet of super submarines which could topple NATO and plunge the world into war. A report by naval experts warns that Russia already has a small but sophisticated army of subs which are capable of launching missile strikes across the globe. The deadly group of stealthy underwater weapons are currently patrolling the world and have already reportedly breached UK waters having approached the Royal Navy’s base in Faslane, Scotland. Russia is stepping up its secret submarine programme to ‘Cold War’ levels and experts warn NATO members “no longer” have the defences to stop the...

The North Korean government is desperate for cash and apparently is tolerating (or encouraging) the widespread acceptance of bribes from people who would ordinarily have to turn out for major public spectacles. This was quite noticeable on July 8 th , the anniversary of the death (in 1994) of North Korean founder Kim Il Sung. Normally it is mandatory for all able bodied North Koreans to attend ceremonies honoring the founder. But not this year and it took a while to find out why. This all part of the “200 Day Battle” that began on July 1 st and demanded...

After 15 years, the US's counter-terror strategy has 'unequivocally failed' Apple and Google, two of the country’s biggest employers, don’t mess around with failure. Leaders either produce or they’re gone. Major League Baseball and National Football League teams have one standard for their leaders: get us into the playoffs or you’re fired. The government’s foreign policy elites, however, don’t have to succeed to keep their jobs. Unlike the rest of America, when U.S. leaders in foreign policy fail, they are rewarded or promoted, while the 330 million Americans living outside the Washington beltway foot the bill.

Despite the vast scope of the Second World War, the navies of the United States and Nazi Germany fought few, if any, direct surface engagements. By the time of America’s entry into the war the Royal Navy had already sunk or neutralized the lion’s share of Hitler’s Kriegsmarine, with only Hitler’s U-boats remaining a substantial German threat.

In an era of fantastic aircraft, the B-58 Hustler was one of the most visually striking warplanes ever to fly. Its delta wing, giant engines, and remarkable performance gave rise to the myth that pilots could literally tear the wings off the bomber if they flew it too fast.

The military tank bursts into flames as the lone Free Syrian Army fighter runs towards the camera after the grenade can be heard clinking down the shaft. Throughout the video, those supporting the rebel can be heard shouting 'Allahu Akbar', meaning 'God is great'.
