One Marine, One Ship by Vin Suprynowicz OCT. 22, 2000 Oct. 26 falls on a Thursday this year. Ask the significance of the date, and you're likely to draw some puzzled looks — five more days to stock up for Halloween? It's a measure of men like Col. Mitchell Paige and Rear Adm. Willis A. "Ching Chong China" Lee that they wouldn't have had it any other way. What they did 58 years ago, they did precisely so their grandchildren could live in a land of peace and plenty. Whether we've properly safeguarded the freedoms they fought to leave us,...

Martinez did not know what prompted the argument, but local television stations reported that the men who approached Dominguez were a veteran and a current member of the U.S. military. They questioned the validity of Dominguez's uniform, according to those reports. Dominguez became agitated and lashed out with a knife, cutting one of the men in the head, chest and arm, according to Martinez.

While this was recorded in 2008, I still remain grateful to see rock stars and other notable people stand up and salute my fellow Veterans. Gene Simmons and the band provide a great rock show for them, and it's awesome to see!

Happy birthday to all Marines actively serving and otherwise, in every clime and place.

The University of Arizona has a great opportunity to position itself as a leader in the fields of tomorrow by working more closely with Fort Huachuca. That was the message shared by newly hired UA President Robert Robbins to a gathering of community leaders at a Veterans Day program held on the university’s Sierra Vista campus Thursday. Robbins, who assumed his position June 1, spoke about his first look at the satellite campus that day and the tour he had of Fort Huachuca previously. He said he was impressed by the sheer complexity of the technical operations happening on post...

Barack Obama’s official photographer has released a new book of pictures and the co-hosts of CBS This Morning on Monday, unsurprisingly, went nuts for it. Norah O’Donnell deemed it “beautiful.” Charlie Rose hailed the “fantastic” cover photo of the ex-President. This comes only a few weeks of a photo book on Michelle Obama. ABC deemed that “picture perfect.” Regarding the new book by Pete Souza, Obama: An Intimate Portrait, O’Donnell enthused, “It's a beautiful book. It’s really well done.... You were a constant presence and chronicler of history.” Rose held up the book’s cover and hailed: This is as good...

After their practice Monday in Voorhees, the Flyers hosted 12 members of the Air Force during a hockey clinic that was held in advance of Saturday’s Military Appreciation Night at the Wells Fargo Center. Wingers Wayne Simmonds and Taylor Leier, and goalie Brian Elliott, whose wife used to serve in the military, were among the Flyers who worked with the servicemen and servicewomen. The military members also received guidance from former Flyers Brad Marsh and Bob Kelly. “They’re the heroes of this country,” Leier said. “The respect they have is phenomenal, and they deserve all they get. On days like...

China has developed a new magnetic propulsion motor that could make nuclear submarines far stealthier, state media have claimed. According to a new report, the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) has tested the country’s first permanent system of this kind, paving the way for quieter and more elusive high-speed vessels. The new magnetic drive, if successful, could bring the Chinese navy more on par with the US and other Western naval forces.

Arizona Sen. John McCain took another swipe at Trump administration policy in a speech to the U.S. Naval Academy, where he slammed both isolationism and nationalism, ideas he said are ascendant within the President Trump’s White House. In the speech to the midshipmen in Annapolis, Maryland, on Monday, the Senate Armed Services Committee chairman ripped into the Trump administration’s policies, although — taking a Voldemort-like approach that’s become habitual among anti-Trump conservatives — he never mentioned the president’s name. McCain contrasted the “hopeful atmosphere of 1991” after the fall of the Soviet Union with “the current circumstances of our world,”...
