Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton held a press conference Thursday morning at the Westchester, New York airport in which she called on ‘every American’ to think of a way to keep her rival Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump from becoming president. Clinton’s language went beyond the usual boilerplate ‘I’m doing everything I can to win the election and I need your help’ and veered into dog whistle territory hinting at a call for an assassin to keep Trump from the presidency. Clinton said several times that citizens should do ‘everything’ to prevent Trump from being in the White House.

Two weeks ago, the PEW Research Center released a survey showing that gun ownership by households is up to 44% — a 7-percentage point increase in the past two years. Another 5% of households won’t reveal whether they own a gun. Yet, not a single mainstream American media headline has announced the increase. In fact, the media goes out of its way to find polls claiming that Americans are turning away from guns. National Baptist Convention organizers shrank the room by one-third after fewer people turned out than expected to hear Hillary Clinton. Frank Morris, national correspondent for KCUR, tweeted a photo showing a worker moving walls to shrink the meeting room in Kansas City. "Workers cutting down the room by a third with lower than expected turnout for (Clinton in Kansas City) speech," Morris reported.

The Washington Post commissioned a poll of all registered voters and decided to draw conclusions about who holds an electoral advantage from the results. The problem for the Washington Post, and they undoubtedly know this, is that polls of all registered voters always heavily favor Democrats and skew the results in such a way that they are ineffective in determining a likely winner. It may be useful in determining public opinion of all registered voters, but who cares about that when we are talking about who will actually win?

Every day, I run into Republican friends who can't stomach a vote for Donald J. Trump but don't know what to do. Vote for Hillary Clinton, who has trouble with the truth, wants to raise taxes and opposes free trade with Asia? Vote for the Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson, an outlier who once ran a marijuana business and embraces isolationism? Or not vote at all, maintaining a certain purity but allowing others to decide the next president? I faced exactly these choices myself. CNN ensured a Sunday night Donald Trump statement about Hillary Clinton wasn’t “crooked” – but that might be the entire problem for the news network. A tweet from the Republican presidential candidate appeared to be edited and scrubbed of the word “crooked” when a graphic on Trump was shown Sunday night, Breitbart News reported. CBS released two battleground state polls today, one from Pennsylvania and one from North Carolina. Both polls showed a Clinton lead, +8 in Pennsylvania and +4 in North Carolina. Looks good for Hillary, right? At first blush, yes. But these are just registered voter polls, which always favor Democrats and do not predict the result on election day. To my great surprise, in both polls 1100 registered voters were interviewed. And in both polls, the CBS pollster assumed a 99% voter turnout rate!
