Gunmen have attacked a hotel at the beach resort of Grand Bassam in Ivory Coast, with casualties reported. Unverified footage posted online shows people running away from the beach.

ON OCTOBER 1, 2015, in a scene that has become depressingly familiar, 26-year-old Christopher Harper-Mercer walked into Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, and opened fire, killing nine people and injuring nine more. Like George Sodini, who killed three women and himself in an L.A. Fitness Center in Pennsylvania; like Seung-Hui Cho, who killed 32 people and injured 17 others at Virginia Tech; and like Elliot Rodger, who killed 6 people and injured 14 others in Isla Vista, California; a large part of Harper-Mercer’s motivation was his toxic anger at women because of his lack of success with them. Harper-Mercer...

Looking for some comic relief after President Obama's teary announcement of new executive orders on gun control, and Chris Matthews' fawning interview of Hillary Clinton? You've come to the right place. On this evening's O'Reilly Factor, Dem strategist Nomiki Konst claimed that forcing law-abiding Americans to register their guns would stop the "majority" of mass shootings. You're killing me, Nomiki—you should excuse the expression. View the video here.

Earlier this month, presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) appeared on CBS's "This Morning" and made the following claim about gun control: "None of the major shootings that have occurred in this country over the last few months or years that have outraged us, would gun laws have prevented them." The Washington Post, doubting Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-FL) statement, decided to fact check him by analyzing some of the most tragic shootings to occur since Newtown. To what seemed like a surprise to the editors, the consistent result was, "No proposed laws" would have made a difference. They started with...

1. They are a minuscule portion of the U.S. population. 2. They're better educated than most Americans. 3. They have more gender equality. 4. They've been here since the birth of the nation. 5. They're not just clustered in big cities. 6. They're as religious as Christians. 7. They're not as dogmatic as they are portrayed. 8. There have been Muslims involved in terrorism. 9. But they've also spoken out against it.

Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pa., thinks he has a solution for much of the surge in mass shootings. Rather than reacting with new gun control measures, Murphy proposes to overhaul the nation’s mental health system to get at what he believes is the root of the violence.Recent mass murders have given that reform effort traction. And, in an interview, Murphy told The Daily Signal he hopes to refurbish federal laws to better help those who suffer from mental illness before they can harm others.“This bill would have some of the most substantive reforms of the last 50 years,†Murphy said.Although his...

I’m sure you’re all familiar with the tale by now and it’s depressing. A mass shooting in one of the country’s great cities. Cable news legal experts would refer to it as “highly unusual†because it involved more than one shooter. It was a crowded area with many innocent people in the potential line of fire. Ambulances lined up to tend to the casualties. So we all know what I’m talking about, right? No… it’s not the San Bernardino shooting. It was the shooting in Bunny Friend Park in New Orleans and it happened on November 22nd. The description from the...

Shortly after news broke of a shooting in San Bernardino (which we now know was a terrorist attack), Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit were abuzz that the events of December 2, 2015 were the "355th mass shooting" of 2015. Obviously, this was a concerning statistic--if it were actually true.It turns out it wasn't, and even figures on the left agree. There's been nowhere near 355 mass shootings in 2015, and according to Mother Jones editor Mark Folman, there have been exactly four. At Mother Jones, where I work as an editor, we have compiled an in-depth, open-source database covering more than...

As you saw last night, the first picture of the female Jihadi from San Bernardino has been released, and as you already know she got her Visa to come here and kill our citizens by lying about her address on the application. (How’s that vetting program going, guys?) [Edit: It turns out the address was “closeâ€) Let’s have a fresh look at the face of one of the people who pledged her allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi even as she was busily slaughtering Californians. By this point, we have removed the few remaining slivers of doubt regarding the terrorist natures...

A recent study by the Crime Prevention Research Center found that mass shootings happen more frequently in European countries. Obama recently said, “We as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency.†He couldn’t be further from the truth. When you account for the population size of America compared to the countries Obama compares us, his statement falls apart. The study defined mass public shootings as four or more people killed, and not in the...

There's a good chance that some link to a motive can be found for every murder. Hillary Clinton and Co. said that a video was responsible for Benghazi. Satirical cartoons were responsible for the Charlie Hebdo terrorist acts. Where did Robert Lewis Dear hear about the "baby parts" if (1) he lived off the grid with no electricity and (2) since very few news outlets reported on the Planned Parenthood videos? "Craig Stephens Hicks, an atheist who killed three Muslims in North Carolina in February, was supposedly a big fan of Rachel Maddow and Bill Nye the Science Guy. It...

Okay here is my solution for mass shooting, and violence in America. Do a mass firearm training of women. We can work this throughout our society. We can start with prior military women and those that have hunting licenses. Then work on those that don't have any prior knowledge and/or training. Provide them with a weapon that they are able to handle and also provide them with a lockbox for their weapon. Women can opt of this if they are a pantie twister. Also they will be background checks for drugs along with any other issues that make it unsafe...

The statistical analyst, Nate Silver, has some thoughts on the phenomena of mass shootings in the United States, especially important in the wake of yesterday's attack by what appear to be radicalized Muslims in San Bernardino. Among his observations: The long-term trend is clear: There have been more total mass shooting incidents and deaths in the 11 years starting with 2005 than there were in the previous 23 years combined. The shooting in San Bernardino on Wednesday was also labeled as an “active shooter†incident. The FBI defines an active-shooter incident as an individual or individuals “actively engaged in killing...

Draw your weapons. That's what Sheriff Joe Arpaio is urging nearly a quarter-million Arizona gun owners to do to fight terrorism and mass shooters. On Tuesday, the so-called "Toughest Sheriff in America" said he cannot guarantee the public's safety and called on them to take matters into their own hands if necessary.

GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump says the United States has "absolutely no choice" but to close down mosques where "some bad things are happening." "Nobody wants to say this and nobody wants to shut down religious institutions or anything, but you know, you understand it," Trump said on Fox News's "Hannity" on Tuesday. "A lot of people understand it. We're going to have no choice." Trump said on Monday he would "strongly consider" closing mosques if elected in response to the terrorist attacks in France last Friday that killed at least 129 people and injured hundreds more. Pressed to explain...
