  • Hit List: CNN Publishes Map of Confederate Monuments in U.S.

CNN posted a map on August 17 showing the location of approximately 1,500 Confederate monuments and/or official symbols in the U.S. The map will, no-doubt, serve as a hit-list for the frenzied Workers World Party members and others seeking the removal and destruction of Confederate statues in city after city across America. CNN reports, “Roughly 1,500 Confederate symbols still exist on public land more than 150 years after the conclusion of the Civil War.” It explains that 718 of the Confederate symbols are “monuments and statutes.”

The floor of the Gulf of Mexico is one of the most geologically interesting stretches of the Earth’s surface. The gulf’s peculiar history gave rise to a landscape riddled with domes, pockmarks, canyons, faults, and channels — all revealed in more detail than ever before by a new 1.4 billion-pixel map. This striking view of the ocean floor off the coasts of Louisiana and Texas was created by a government agency you’ve likely never heard of called the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). The bureau’s job is to manage exploration and development of the country’s offshore mineral and energy...

god-original-land-grant-of-israel-to-abraham by Geoffrey Grider August 17, 2016 The tiny, little fraction of Israel proper that the Jews have at the current moment pales in comparison with how much God says they really have. “For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.” Genesis 13:15 (KJV) In our day, much is made of the current conflict between Israel and the mythical Palestinians and the seemingly endless battle over who is entitled to how much of the land. People talk about the ownership of the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and the...

The Trump administration is off to a rocky start, as every week seems to bring new turmoil and drama. However, it is important to remember how shockingly unlikely this presidency was in the first place.Exhibit A: Twitter/@HuffingtonPost Since Trump went from nearly zero chance of becoming Leader of the Free World to launching missiles at our enemies, one is left to ask: what trends led to this fate for Democrats?Ryne Rohla at Decision Desk HQ set out to model American voting patterns, not just on a national or state level, but by burrowing down to the most localized, nuanced metric...

A "Mark III" military escape kit, with a silk map peeking out. Imagine it’s 1942, and you’re a member of Britain’s Royal Air Force. In a skirmish above Germany, your plane was shot out of the sky, and since then you’ve been hunkered down in a Prisoner of War camp. Your officers have told you it’s your duty to escape as soon as you can, but you can’t quite figure out how—you’ve got no tools and no spare rations, and you don’t even know where you are.One day, though, you’re playing Monopoly with your fellow prisoners when you notice a strange seam...

For many Americans, it feels as if the 2016 election split the country in two. To visualize this, we took the election results and created two new imaginary nations by slicing the country along the sharp divide between Republican and Democratic Americas. onald J. Trump won most of the land area of the United States. A country consisting of areas he won retains more than 80 percent of the nation’s counties. While Trump country is vast, its edges have been eroded by coastal Democrats, and it is riddled with large inland lakes of Clinton voters who were generally concentrated in dense...

Freepers, help me out here. The liberal search engine Google has refused to help. I am trying to get a detailed election results map identical to the one Fox news uses. I still see it there daily. Does not delineate states or counties, simply areas where votes were cast. Amazing how Google is showing it's liberal slant. They show everything but that map. What will happen now that RINOS and dems have given the internet away? Help! Thanks. America is already becoming great again!

City of Melbourne, population four million, placed in the wrong hemisphere Microsoft has misplaced Melbourne, the four-million-inhabitant capital of the Australian State of Victoria. A search on Bing Maps for “Melbourne, Victoria, Australia” says the city is at 37.813610, 144.963100 which we've screen-captured above (or here for those reading our mobile site). The co-ordinates are right save for one important detail: Melbourne is at 37.8136° South. Bing's therefore put it in the wrong hemisphere. The Register's Australian outpost has tried searching for a few other major cities in Victoria and beyond and believes this is an isolated and probably-fat-fingered error....

Bank of America Merrill Lynch Do you know what your country’s biggest export is? Now, thanks to this map put out by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch, you can find out. The map does not include the export of services, but highlights some interesting insights and global trends. Part of their Transforming World Atlas, the report highlights “how many countries in the world are dependent on commodities as the primary source of foreign income.” In a volatile global commodities market, it is a reminder of the risk posed by falling oil prices to economies around the world. WASHINGTON — National Public Radio’s (NPR) ombudsman Elizabeth Jensen released an explanation and apology Monday for a map published on the news organization’s website that erased Israel from the Middle East. On January 24, NPR’s blog Goats and Soda, which covers health and culture issues around the world, ran a piece titled, “What Are You Afraid Of In 2016? Globetrotters Share Their Fears.” The post focused on travelers’ anxieties for the coming year, and included an illustration of the Middle East and North Africa, the region of the world that travelers most perceive as being at risk. “The map portion...

Where is Israel? Screenshot CNN sparked outrage this week after posting a news article on its website in which Israel was literally wiped off the map.  The article, titled, "Beyond ISIS: 2016's scariest geopolitical hot spots," featured a graphic of the Middle East in which Israel is replaced with a red square marking the country of "Palestina." According to HonestReporting, the picture, using a Spanish or Portuguese translation of "Palestine," was taken from Getty Images and not created by CNN's graphics team.  Commenters to the site were quick to lambast CNN, asserting Israel would likely still be in existence next year. HonestReporting...

An important, and frankly amazing Tolkien document has emerged, recently discovered loose in a copy of The Lord of the Rings once owned by illustrator Pauline Baynes. The Guardian reports that Baynes removed the map from a previous version of the novel as she was working on a then new color map for a new edition that was published in 1970. The map then had “copious” notes made by J.R.R. Tolkien in green ink and pencil. Baynes then made her own notes on the map. It is essentially a map annotated by Tolkien himself.

The Texas senator is hunting votes in the most far-flung places to meet the requirements of an obscure RNC rule. Ted Cruz has long contended that the GOP nomination fight will be a grueling, drawn-out affair that could stretch all the way to the convention. And he's taking out an insurance policy just in case. Cruz is working the most distant corners of the political map, courting Republicans in the farthest-flung U.S. territories in an attempt to meet the requirements of Republican National Committee rule No. 40 (b), an obscure provision that currently stipulates that in order to receive the...

Education in America is bad and deficient. I hear that all the time. Unless you live in the woods or are a dead person come back to haunt my blog posts, you have also heard it time and again. Politically, both the left and the right make this claim, but obviously for different reasons. On the right, the complaints are usually that no one teaches about the founding fathers or the greatness of America anymore, that teachers are too leftist and liberal and teach social justice, and of course, COMMON CORE!!!!!!!! On the left, the complaint is that schools just...

New Horizons Map of Pluto: The Whale and the Donut This map of Pluto, made from images taken by the LORRI instrument aboard New Horizons, shows a wide array of bright and dark markings of varying sizes and shapes. Perhaps most intriguing is the fact that all of the darkest material on the surface lies along Pluto’s equator. The color version was created from lower-resolution color data from the spacecraft’s Ralph instrument. Adolf Hitler started World War II by attacking Poland on Sept. 1, 1939. Nazi Germany moved only after it had already remilitarized the Rhineland, absorbed Austria and dismantled Czechoslovakia. Before the outbreak of the war, Hitler’s new Third Reich had created the largest German-speaking nation in European history. Well before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Imperial Japanese government had redrawn the map of Asia and the Pacific. Japan had occupied or annexed Indochina, Korea, Manchuria and Taiwan, in addition to swaths of coastal China. Attacking Hawaii, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia was merely the logical 1941 follow-up...
