Commercial fishing boat owners and groups are reacting to the executive action taken by President Obama that created a marine national preserve in the North Atlantic on Sept. 15. HAVERHILL (CBS) — On Saturday morning in Haverhill, horns were blaring and engines were revving as residents rallied behind homeowner Rick Early, who has put up more Donald Trump signs than the city allows. Early, along with many of his friends, are standing their ground. “It’s just a show of support. A lot of people want to support what we are doing and don’t like what the city is doing,” Early said. The city has an ordinance prohibiting political signs that total more than 32 square feet of space. Early’s signs add up to more than 300 square feet. “It’s...

On the morning of Sept. 9, an inspector with the Alabama Surface Mining Commission was performing a routine monthly check of an old coal mine in Shelby County when he noticed "a strong odor of gasoline" as well as a sheen on the surface of one of the retention ponds. The gasoline he was smelling came from Colonial Pipeline's Line 1, an underground pipeline three feet in diameter that normally pushes 1.3 million barrels of gasoline per day from refineries in Houston to distribution centers across the Southeast and along the eastern seaboard. That 36-inch line, built in 1963, has...

The GWU Battleground Poll published on September 9 shows Donald Trump a clear path to victory: win the conservative vote. The data in this poll has been consistent over the last two decades, and the data in the latest poll is no different. The overwhelming majority of Americans are self-identified conservatives. The September 2016 Battleground Poll shows that 54% of all Americans are self-identified conservatives and only 38% are self-identified liberals, which means that if the tiny "moderate" 3% and the equally tiny "unsure/refused" 4% are excluded, then the conservative candidate would beat the liberal candidate by a landslide of...

Special Report: Inside immigration court Boston Herald Massachusetts last year deported the lowest percentage of illegal aliens of any state in the nation — and had the third highest rate of granting asylum, according to a Herald investigation of a largely secret system that shows the Obama administration’s increasingly lax policy on immigration. The state’s immigration court, nestled in a largely unobserved space on the third floor of the John F. Kennedy Federal Building downtown, deported just 26.9 percent of illegals who came before it, the country’s lowest average rate — and well below the national average of 46.4 percent,...

... Malas also said that Northampton is an appropriate location for refugees citing the city’s openness to diversify the community, as well as Arab communities in Springfield and Holyoke which could help make refugees feel welcomed. Even by walking the streets of Northampton and reading signs on stores saying “Refugees are welcome” and “Coexist,” Malas said he is certain that refugees will be able to call Northampton home.
