Many liberals are furious at the White House press corps for virtually ignoring Stephen Colbert's keynote speech at the press corp's own White House Correspondents' Dinner last Saturday. As presidential adviser Karl Rove has been under fire for his role in the alleged outing of a CIA employee, a liberal blog is now suggesting people leave a special care package on Rove's lawn -- the gift of excrement. "If you just happen to be passing through, do the considerate thing and bring a small gift. We suggest a special bouquet for our esteemed latter-day Wormtongue," says A Liberal Dose. The Governor of Ohio, Bob Taft, and other prominent state officials, commute to their downtown Columbus offices on Broad Street. This is the so-called “Golden Finger,” the safe route through the majority black inner-city near east side. The Broad Street BP station, just east of downtown, is the place where affluent suburbanites from Bexley can stop, gas up, get their coffee and New York Times. The language of leftism is out of date. It desperately needs reconstruction and revitalisation, if the Left is ever to regain its proper status as a voice of ethical critique of materialistic modern society. As a registered Democrat who voted for the fringe-left Ralph Nader for President in 2000, I am well aware of the decline in prestige and effectiveness of leftist organisations since their high point in the 1960s.
