On Tuesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced new efforts to prevent American overseas funding from supporting abortion. While the Trump administration had already implemented what is called the "Mexico City Policy," this recent change makes that existing policy more effective. Democrats have slammed the Trump administration as "abortion-obsessed," but this policy is extremely popular, as are restrictions to late-term abortion. "Your administration is abortion-obsessed," Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) told Pompeo in a hearing on Wednesday. "You’re so obsessed with it that the side-effects are devastating the health and are going to continue to devastate the health of women around...

Belén Sisa, the Latino press secretary for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) 2020 presidential campaign, has apologized for questioning whether American Jews hold “dual allegiance” to Israel, Politico reported Tuesday evening. Sisa reportedly asked the question on Facebook Sunday as part of a larger discussion about her support for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who came under fire this month for suggesting pro-Israel groups pressure members of Congress to pledge allegiance to a foreign country. “In a conversation on Facebook, I used some language that I see now was insensitive. Issues of allegiance and loyalty to one’s country come with painful history,”...

The House Democratic Women's Working Group is inviting female members of both parties to wear white to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address next week as a symbol of solidarity. "Wearing suffragette white is a respectful message of solidarity with women across the country, and a declaration that we will not go back on our hard-earned rights," Rep. Lois Frankel of Florida, the chair of the working group, told CNN. Frankel pointed out there have never been as many Democratic women serving in Congress as there are today. In 2017, the same group coordinated Democratic women wearing white...

Congresswoman Lois Frankel (D-FL) made a drastic statement on Wednesday to enunciate her opposition for Brett Kavanaugh‘s nomination to the Supreme Court. Ever since Kavanaugh was tagged by President Trump, Congressional Democrats have promised staunch opposition to Kavanugh’s confirmation — arguing that the nominee would rollback abortion rights along with many other progressive Supreme Court rulings. Kavanaugh’s position on Roe v. Wade is not as easily defined as it is for others who were on Trump’s SCOTUS short list. But nonetheless, Frankel is making her opposition to Kavanaugh crystal clear. How you ask?

Some septuagenarian House Democrats have a message for their younger colleagues clamoring for a spot at the leadership table: Age ain’t nothin’ but a number. Democrats in their 70s have started pushing back against some of the more youthful members of the Democratic Caucus who are making noise about launching leadership bids in the wake of Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley’s stunning primary loss last week to 28-year-old Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York. Older lawmakers argue that just because Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), 78, and her top lieutenants are getting up there in years doesn’t mean they’re not...

Last year, eight members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence issued a demand that their staffers be granted access to top secret classified information. The signatories to the letter were Andre Carson, Luis Guiterez, Jim Himes, Terri Sewell, Jackie Speier, Mike Quigley, Eric Swalwell and Patrick Murphy. All the signatories were Democrats. Some had a history of attempting to undermine national security. Two of them have been linked to an emerging security breach. The office of Andre Carson, the second Muslim in Congress, had employed Imran Awan. As did the offices of Jackie Speier and Debbie Wasserman Schultz;...

Three brothers who managed office information technology for members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and other lawmakers were abruptly relieved of their duties on suspicion that they accessed congressional computer networks without permission. Brothers Abid, Imran, and Jamal Awan were barred from computer networks at the House of Representatives Thursday, The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group has learned. Three members of the intelligence panel and five members of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs were among the dozens of members who employed the suspects on a shared basis.

“Reckless” was the talking point word of the day Monday as South Florida Democrats sought to turn up the heat on Republicans, blaming the party’s tea party faction for the partial government shutdown and attempting to show how people are being hurt. “This shutdown is irresponsible, infuriating and reckless,” declared U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, a Democrat who represents mostly coastal Broward and Palm Beach counties. “Congress has been hijacked by 30 or 40 radical members who oppose reasonable solutions. It’s been a week, because of a tea party tantrum, the whole country has been paralyzed,” she said. “Enough is enough....

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) announced Sunday that she has spearheaded a bipartisan letter calling on the French government to cancel plans to release a convicted terrorist who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of an American and an Israeli diplomat. The letter, which was sent to France’s Ambassador to the United States, urges French officials to stop the release of George Ibrahim Abdallah, the former head of the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Brigade who was convicted in 1987 of killing an Israeli diplomat and a U.S. military attaché. The U.S. State Department has also expressed its opposition...

Today, Patrick Murphy, the underdog in the Democratic primary for Congressional District 22, called incumbent U.S. Rep. Allen West -- a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, and a combat veteran, mind you -- "a coward." Responding to West’s decision to run in a newly drawn district further north, Murphy posted the following statement on his website: Allen West went from talking tough this weekend and telling progressives to "get the hell out of this country" to abandoning the people who elected him. There is no other way to interpret this: Allen West is a coward. The truth is...

The Democrats are chomping at the bit to reclaim Florida’s 22nd Congressional District seat, snatched from them in 2010 by Allen West, R-Plantation. Although they need someone with the mental agility to match West’s talent for thinking on his feet, they also want someone free of corruption and controversy. For example, they don’t need another Congressman Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar. While serving as a federal judge, a Hastings go-between accepted $25,000 as a down payment to a $150,000 bribe in exchange for a favorable ruling. Former West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel claims to have the moxie to confront West. Unlike...
