ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A man was riding his bike on rough trails when he took a fall. As he got up and evaluated his condition, he quickly realized something was very wrong. Sticking out of the let side of his neck was a small tree limb. Still thinking clearly, the rider left the wood in his neck, went back to his car, and drove himself 20 miles to the nearest hospital. ... Deriy praised the rider for his calm actions. "If you have something like that happen, it’s a good idea not to touch,” he explained. The doctor stressed it...

A couple has been arrested after allegedly setting a homeless man on fire with fireworks earlier this month. On July 11, authorities say a homeless man was sleeping along the side of a road when he was set on fire by fireworks, which were thrown from an SUV. Now, police have arrested 31-year-old Joshua Benavidez and 31-year-old Irene Enriquez for aggravated battery with great bodily harm, tampering with evidence, child abuse and conspiracy. The pair told KOB that they were trying to startle the man, and did not know that he had been burned until their arrest. “It was just...

  • Minnesota State Patrol says don't slam on brakes for wildlife – even ducklings

The ducks, even the ducklings, are expendable. That’s the difficult message from the Minnesota State Patrol in response to a hair-raising video of cars swerving and slamming on the brakes on Interstate 35W to spare a line of ducks waddling across the highway. “I watched that video and I cringed,” said Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Tiffani Nielson. “People should not stop on the freeway for ducks.” Nielson knows her advice will not be popular with people who think the motorists did the right thing to avoid the birds. “It’s definitely a touchy subject … It’s not very kind, but the risk...
  • [Vanity] List of Trump's Speaking Engagements?

Does anyone know where I can find a list of Trump's upcoming events/appearances? I have tried his website, and there's nothing. Also did several web searches, still nothing. I don't tweet or text, etc., so maybe that's where the info is. It shouldn't really be this hard to find the info, should it? Thanks for any help you can give.

On Sunday mornings, you’ll find Pastor Brenda Stevenson preaching from the tattered pages of her Bible to a congregation clinging to her every word. But the pastor of New Outreach Christian Center will soon be armed with something other than the word of God. “Like I tell everybody – just welcome two new members, Smith and Wesson,” Stevenson said. Next month, Stevenson will take the pulpit with a gun by her side for the first time, a need realized after the Charleston shooting, something she believes may have been stopped if someone inside could have fired back. “I do not...

In a 1½ hour span Wednesday night, Carrick lost a community tradition some six decades old. The St. Basil Catholic Parish summer festival — the parish’s biggest annual fundraiser — will cease to exist after brawling teenagers prompting its early closure out of fear for public safety, according to the parish’s pastor, the Rev. Stephen Kresak. --snip-- Father Kresak said the festival has been plagued by brawls before. He said a small group of teens who came from outside the Carrick community cause problems, and he believes the festival gave teenagers a place to congregate without being noticed as out...

A Hayward man will break ground on a 9/11 monument Friday, near the old City Hall building. Marine Corps veteran Michael Emerson designed the memorial which will feature four granite monoliths to represent the planes involved in the crash. The monument, on 22738 Mission Boulevard, will also honor victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. This is not Emerson’s first time building a 9/11 memorial. He helped produce the Flight 98 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Sandusky veteran spent more than two years as prisoner of Chinese Many Americans took offense when Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump derided U.S. Sen. John McCain's war record — which included more than five years in a North Vietnamese prison. But for former Korean War prisoner of war John Koopman, 82, the disdain was personal. "I think Donald Trump ought to be a prisoner of war for one day, and then say to McCain what he had said," said Koopman, 82, a patient at Stein Hospice on the south campus of Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. Trump, while speaking...

Dear Mr. Trump, I'd like to be a reporter at one of your press conferences, but since I can't I'll take the opportunity here and pretend like we're holding one with you. SINCE, I'D LIKE TO THINK YOU READ THIS FORUM NOW AND THEN. I, along with many on this forum, are liking what we see with you, and in fact I'm really seriously thinking about contributing to your campaign, but I want to know some things. I want to know if you are truly a true conservative. I want to know that your are not another Ross Perot, one...

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Dairy Queen in downtown Moorhead has been thumbing its nose at corporate HQ pretty much since it opened in 1949, despite some efforts from the home office to have the store mind its Ds and Qs. And it’s a recipe that seems to be working for one of the few DQs in the country still operating under a 66-year-old contract that allows them to dish up throwback treats alongside the standard corporate-approved items, a combination that turns Main Avenue and 8th Street into a hopping, slightly retro summer hangout. Though the restaurant shuts down in the...

Kevin Huntington knows things can get hectic along Interstate 95, especially in northern Virginia. The construction worker said what he saw last week, was like nothing he’s ever experienced. Huntington does road work along I-95, and on Thursday he was working near Mile Marker 155 in northern Virginia when he encountered a scary situation. He said he noticed a car coming toward the work zone at a high speed. “I noticed a female jump out of the car, she came running up to us and you could tell she was pretty distraught and terrified,” Huntington told WTVR. Huntington said the...

A massive swarm of grasshoppers and beetles is making its way toward Oklahoma. Park rangers from Copper Breaks State Park in Quanah, Texas say the mob is so huge that its movement is being picked up on radar. They are reportedly headed northeast towards Oklahoma. We don’t know if they will reach us, but they are making impressive time. The National Weather Service says it is not unusual for the bugs to travel like this during the summer, but it is pretty incredible to watch it on radar. “It doesn’t take a whole lot of bugs to cause that on...

The piece about Pat Stocks is sprinkled with laughs about Pat’s foul mouth, her questionable cooking skills and her wild methods of guiding her children through the “school of hard knocks.”When 94-year-old Torontonian Mary “Pat” Stocks passed away in her sleep in early July, it was amidst waning health, so her death hardly came as a surprise to her three children and 10 grandchildren. But what did come as a shock was her light-hearted obituary, rife with jokes. It was penned by Pat’s son Sandy after her death. The 669-word piece, published in Saturday’s Star, is an unusual twist on...
