The staff reduction represents about 30 percent of its current workforce of 20,000. A search for a new CEO is underway, but there is no move to change the airline's name, which some branding experts had said was necessary for a successful makeover....

Not only are there attempts at character assassination of the officer but the character assassination of the complete police department of Ferguson has ensued. Michael Brown steals a fistful of cigars from a convenience store. The surveillance video shows him shoving a man who attempts to block the door. As the man backs away, Mr Brown turns and walks in a threatening manner towards the shopkeeper. Michael Brown is 6’4” and 300 pounds. Any physical altercation between the robber and merchant is a mismatch of force. The actions of Michael Brown are deemed a “strong-arm robbery with the use of...

While most of America gets on with its business, Ferguson, Missouri, burns in archaic flames of exasperating, unresolved anger, for all to see. Once again, the world watches America roil in the mortifying echo of Jim Crow law brutality. Meanwhile, U.S. firepower explodes bodies of ISIS militia thousands of miles away. They and Boko Haram are seen as primitive, extremist scum that should be eradicated. Even the new liberal, socialist pope wants to see the American Shock ’n’ Awe Fire Revue focused on ISIS. Yet there’s Missouri, showing everyone where America’s at. Missouri has a history of despicable conduct. Abraham...

We reported last December on how a Utah federal judge strikes down key part of anti-polygamy law: "Yes, this all was predicted long ago, and led to charges of fear mongering and false slippery slopes. The legalization of polygamy followed logically from the legal arguments against one man-one woman, as was predicted not just by me, but also by Professor Martha Nussbaum, one of the leading legal advocates for gay marriage, “Polygamy would have to be permitted.” And it’s coming true in a small step, as a federal court in Utah, while not holding that polygamists were entitled to state-sanctioned...

Amidst all the hell breaking loose in Ferguson, here is one more old scab to pick at – immigrant-black tensions in small towns and inner cities. It is a troubling image. The hazy security camera screen captures from the convenience store reinforced those fears. The store clerk was slightly built. Michael Brown, the customer holding him by the collar was a much larger man. Though the storeowner, Andy Patel, later told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch no shoplifting or robbery had occurred in his store, the screen-grab encapsulated a story of suspicion, tension, and conflict. Soon thereafter Michael Brown was gunned...

Hundreds of immigration protestors were arrested in front of the White House on Thursday, calling for President Obama to bypass a “do-nothing Congress” and expand deferred action for illegal immigrants. “People in the Congress don’t want to pass any immigration reform,” said Esteban R., an illegal immigrant from northern Mexico, who has lived in the U.S. for 20 years. “People say that immigrants are taking jobs that Americans need. But that’s not true. It’s racism and hate against Latino people.” The protestors, many wearing “Casa de Maryland” T-shirts, shouted “Si se puede (Yes we can)”. The protest began at the...

“Support Daren Wilson.” These three words emblazoned at the top of the GoFundMe website in support of the Ferguson, Mo, cop who gunned down Michael Brown said it all. In the span of less than 48 hours, nearly 5,000 donations were received and the site got tens of thousands of Facebook looks and tweets. The fund’s beleaguered sponsors pleaded for patience while they tried to respond to the flood of emails that poured in supporting Wilson. The organizers announced triumphantly that they’d raised three times more than their goal. This was no surprise. The instant Wilson was fingered as the...

The government of the United States is suing the town of St. Anthony, Minnesota, a Twin Cities suburb with a population a little over 8,000, to force the town to allow development of an Islamic center in an area reserved for industrial development. It is a minor news story, but one that sheds light on broader legal and cultural trends. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports: The federal government on Wednesday sued the small north-metro city of St. Anthony, contending that its City Council violated federal law in 2012 by rejecting a proposed Islamic center. … “An injustice has been done,”...

A judge ruled Wednesday that the law making polygamy illegal in Utah is unconstitutional. Here’s what you need to know: What just happened? A federal judge in Salt Lake City — Clark Waddoups — issued a final ruling in the so-called Sister Wives case, which is known for the TLC show that prompted it. Sister Wives stars the polygamous Brown family, who sued in 2011 because officials where they lived threatened to come after them. The Brown family won their biggest victory in December, when the judge said the Utah law that made polygamy illegal — and which would have...

Last week, Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network announced that it was sending Iyanla Vanzant — minister, spiritual life coach, host of OWN’s “Iyanla, Fix My Life” — to Ferguson, Mo., following the death of Michael Brown and the “subsequent unrest” in the town. The stated goal was for Vanzant to film a special episode of her TV show and “to listen to the people who have been adversely affected and to join the community in finding a path from violence into healing.” This news was met with a hefty amount of skepticism. It’s one thing for news cameras to be in...

<p>Mary Rose Wilcox is a career politician from Phoenix' South side who runs a Democrat political machine that has been compared to Daley's in Chicago. She was running in the Democrat primary for a congressional seat in the deep blue "safe seventh" district of Arizona, one of the few Arizona districts that is safe for Democrat candidates. She had name recognition, organization, and money on her side. She decided to differentiate herself from her main opposition, Ruben Gallego, by being more willing to chip away at second amendment rights.</p>

A man was walking at 1:20 am, Sunday morning, when he was confronted by two black males, one of which pointed a gun at him. From timesleader.com: “What do you got for me?” one man said to the victim. He told police he grabbed his attacker’s gun with one hand and drew his own firearm. The man does not have a concealed firearms permit, but carries his gun under Pennsylvania’s open carry laws, police said. The robbers fled. On a dark street, the tactical deterrence offered by open carry may not be as effective, essentially making open carry the equivalent...
