Some interesting news has broken in the wake of the latest push for gun control by President Obama and Senate Democrats: Obama sends his kids to a school where armed guards are used as a matter of fact. The school, Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC, has 11 security officers and is seeking to hire a new police officer as we speak. If you dismiss this by saying, "Of course they have armed guards -- they get Secret Service protection," then you've missed the larger point. The larger point is that this is standard operating procedure for the school, period....

President ObamaObama, though, offered specific proposals only in reference to the latter. He called on Congress to pass "common-sense legislation," which he said should include an assault-weapons ban and a ban on high-capacity magazines.Ok, Mr. Obama. You go first. Issue an executive order removing military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines from the Secret Service agents guarding you. Mayor Bloomberg“Instead of offering solutions to a problem they have helped create, they offered a paranoid, dystopian vision of a more dangerous and violent America where everyone is armed and no place is safe,” Mayor Bloomberg said.Ok, Doomberg, you go first. Let your armed...

HYPOCRISY - Many may have forgotten that in 1994 Senator Rockefeller was caught in a slight scuffle with DC police over gun control laws. The following account appears on the Future of Freedom Foundation web site. http://www.ff.org/freedom/0496d.asp "Yet, as with most holy wars, some of the warriors are not without the taint of hypocrisy. Senator John Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, was a fervent supporter of the crime bill and the assault-weapons ban. A few days after the bill passed the Senate, the Charleston (WV) Daily Mail reported from Washington: "If burglars are casing big houses around here, they may...

Senate Democrats who helped pass ObamaCare are finally seeing what is in it and aren't really so sure the massive tax increases mandated in the legislation will be good for their constituents, especially when it comes to the medical device tax which is set to further increase on January 1. With some of their most influential constituent groups facing onerous tax increases that are slated to help fund the law’s mandates and regulations, Senators like Al Franken (D-MN), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Charles Schumer (D-NY), Patty Murray (D-WA), John Kerry (D-MA), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and...

In a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid, 18 Democrat senators and senators-elect have asked for “a delay in the implementation” of the Obamacare medical device tax. Like most of the significant tax increases in Obamacare, the medical device tax is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2013, conveniently after the 2012 presidential election. Each of the 18 Democrat signatories voted for or supported Obamacare in the first place. And now they want a sweetheart exemption from one of its most onerous provisions. Even in Washington DC, that shows a lot of gall.

Scientists may have finally solved the puzzle of what makes a person gay, and how it is passed from parents to their children. A group of scientists suggested Tuesday that homosexuals get that trait from their opposite-sex parents: A lesbian will almost always get the trait from her father, while a gay man will get the trait from his mother.

Google avoided about $2 billion in global income taxes last year by shifting $9.8 billion in revenue into a Bermuda shell company, Bloomberg reported. That level is almost double the total from three years ago, Bloomberg said, citing a Nov. 21 regulatory filing by a Google subsidiary in the Netherlands. And it allowed Google to cut its overall tax rate almost in half. Google's action -- moving about 80 percent of its total pretax profit from 2011 to tax-free Bermuda -- isn't illegal. On the contrary, many companies have taken similar steps in recent years to avoid paying steep taxes....

CHICAGO—A veteran Illinois state senator was arrested Wednesday after allegedly trying to board a flight from Chicago to Washington with a gun and ammunition in a carry-on bag, authorities said. Sen. Donne Trotter, a Chicago Democrat who recently announced he would run to replace Jesse Jackson Jr. in the U.S. House, was carrying an unloaded .25-caliber Beretta handgun and a magazine clip with six bullets when he tried to board a flight at O'Hare International Airport, according to Chicago police.

Ah, the hypocrisy of tax-hikers who do everything they can to avoid the taxes they wish to impose on others. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.: He tried to avoid $500K in his home state's sales and excise taxes by docking his newly purchased $7 million 76-foot yacht in Rhode Island. Massachusetts lowered its state income tax in 2001. Given the presumably large number of rich people who pine to pay more taxes, the state allowed tax filers to check a box and voluntarily pay the old, higher rate. In a liberal state of over 3 million tax filers, how many volunteered...

Even as the media complains that Republican House officials have installed males at the top of their committees, it ignores the fact that President Obama’s senior advisors are almost entirely white males. The only top advisor who is a female or minority is Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s longtime maternal figure.

Exactly two years ago this week, the Obama administration announced it had issued more than 100 waivers en masse to a select group of companies, unions and other health insurance providers seeking relief from the onerous federal health care law. The Obamacare waiver winner's club now totals 2,000. Where are they now? Answer: In the same miserable boat as every other unlucky business struggling with the crushing costs and burdens of the mandate. Among the first and most prominent recipients of the Obamacare waivers for favors were large restaurant chains that provide low-wage, seasonal and part-time workers with low-cost health...

It has been one week since the reelection of Barack Obama and the reality of Obamacare’s permanence in the American landscape is beginning to set in for many business owners. Papa John’s founder and CEO, John Schnatter made headlines last week along with a slew of other companies when he announced some changes that would likely occur as Obamacare continues to be implemented. Schnatter commented that many of his company’s franchise owners will have to cut employees’ hours in order to avoid falling under Obamacare’s coverage requirements, and stay fiscally sound. “That’s probably what’s going to happen,” he said according...

Doesn’t Jason Biggs know that Twitchy is forever? Earlier this week, we called attention to the American Idiot’s knock on Christians and his vile, sexually degrading tweets about Paul Ryan, Janna Ryan and Ann Romney. We also highlighted the mounting pressure on Nickelodeon to fire the actor from his “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” voice gig. Biggs dismissed his critics by tweeting, “You know I put my dick in a pie, right?” And completely misreading the First Amendment, his wife, Jenny Mollen tweeted, “How weird would it be if we all had freedom of speech? But today all of the disgusting...

MSNBC host Chuck Todd asked the co-chair of the Democratic party's convention, L.A. mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, why there are more Republican women and Hispanic governors: "Let me ask you though, this one question, why is it that the Republicans have elected more women governors and have two Hispanic governors and the Democrats don’t?," asked Todd. "Don’t have as many women governors and don’t have Hispanic governors, why do you think that is?"

Which is worse, Rep. Todd Akin's, R-Mo., ignorance about human anatomy -- or the way Republicans jump, run and hide when the Democrat-media complex decides they should? Akin is the Republican candidate for a crucial Senate seat in Missouri. In an interview, he said that he believed that pregnancy following an act of rape is "really rare -- if it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down." Incredibly dumb. The married father of six, including two daughters, apologized the next day and then recorded an ad apologizing yet again. That, at...

(CNSNews.com) – The man who shot a security guard at the Family Research Council (FRC) on Wednesday was “given a license” to do so because of groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that have labeled the FRC a “hate group,” said FRC President Tony Perkins. The conservative Christian group is posted on a “Hate Map” on the SPLC’s Web site. There are 13 groups listed for the District of Columbia on the “Hate Map,” and the Family Research Council is among them, according to the SPLC, because of its support for traditional marriage and Christian morality.

Liberals take hypocrisy so far over the top, it almost seems deliberate. For example, if they aren’t attacking their betters for being racists, then it’s for being white — despite the moonbats usually being white themselves. Note that Cher, who is several decades past the expiration date for sleazy pop stars in fishnets, also ridicules countermoonbats for being old. Well-heeled elitist moonbats like Cher emulate their Moonbat Messiah in denouncing “the rich” — by which they must mean the despised middle class. They are quick to characterize their opponents as bigots, but even quicker to spew bigotry at Christians and...

LAS VEGAS — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid again deflected questions Monday about releasing his tax returns, even as he continued to pound the demand for Mitt Romney to make more of his own public. Instead, Reid pointed to the financial disclosure forms he files as a member of Congress, which provide different information. “I’m a member of Congress now, I don’t make too much money,” said Reid, whose net worth was estimated at $10 million in 2010. “But it’s all listed every year.” Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson told POLITICO last week that the majority leader will not release his...
