There are some things to like about Trump. But, it looks to me like these are the possible outcomes with this guy: 1. He is truly a conservative leader, i.e. will appoint truly conservative judges, will stand against abortion and Planned Parenthood, against gay marriage (and for religious liberty), against any form of federally mandated healthcare, will balance the budget, and will defend the Constitution in total--and he will be elected President. 2. A force on the national landscape for more than 30 years, Clinton has distinguished herself in foreign and domestic policy in ways that make her well-suited to represent the party in November. President Obama has said his biggest regret was his inability to breach the divide between Democrats and Republicans. The next president must demonstrate some capacity for working with opponents, for seeking reasonable compromise, while remaining committed to a firm set of values. "Consistent. Conservative. Trusted." That's Ted Cruz's campaign slogan. It suggests, among other things, that Mr. Cruz is honest, a man with a moral compass. Campaign slogans are platitudinousness by definition - everyone gets that. But, generally speaking, they communicate something simple and true about the candidate. In Cruz's case, however, the irony is overwhelming. The Texas senator has developed a reputation in Washington as a grandstanding huckster, someone who reliably puts himself above the party. Gallup released a fascinating bit of data Tuesday that speaks to Clinton’s trust problem. They asked people to offer up the first word or phrase that came to mind when the name “Hillary Clinton” was mentioned. One in five people — unprompted by the poll taker — offered up some version of Clinton as "dishonest" or a "liar." That's somewhat remarkable given that these open-ended questions typically produce a gigantic muddle of something like 25 words or phrases — all of which garner somewhere between 5 and 8 percent support.
